Happy by seeing that all are good at paper 2nd and solving questions nicely. but what is lacking is none are good at explanations means all are assuming that everyone knows how they reached at solutions so it lays down more responsibility on initiator to provide solution step by step. So that a disconnected people from these field also can understand. Thanks for the initiative it sill surely help us without considering the weightage of UPSC for this paper. keep continue.

  13. Sorry, Correction, Ans for 4th is 12.5 hrs, (Earlier I misread as “one and half hours”, but its only “half an hour”)

    Solution –
    A-4hrs, B-6hrs, C-3 hrs.
    LCM of 4, 6 and 3 is 12.
consider tank with 12 units as full.

Now A fills tank with 3units per hour.
    B with 2units/hr
    and C empties with 4 units/hr.

    1) at the start tank was half full = 6 units.
    2) after one hour (C was open) =2 units.
    3) aft half an hour (B and C was open) = 2+1-2 = 1 unit.
    4) now all taps are open. but when all taps are open, 3+2-4 = 1 units/hr is rate of filling the tank.
    5) so 11 units will be filled up in 11 hurs.
    6) so solution = 11hrs+half and hour(aftr B and C was open) +one hour (after C was open) = 12.5 hrs

    ” POSSIBLE CORRECT SOLUTIONS”
    Q1—-b
    Q2—-d
    Q3—d
Q4—–c(by the time A is opened, the tank is already empty, So the effective time taken to fill the tank will be 12/ (3+2-1) = 12 hr…Now add 0.5 hrs and 1 hr given in the question…So final answer becomes 12+ 0.5 +1 = 13.5 hrs
