SOLUTIONS TO DAILY CSAT MISSION # 93

1. (D) 2. (C) 3. (B) 4. (A) 5. (D)

Explanations
1. Let x be the total number of votes polled.
Winner received 68% and hence, the loser received 32%. Difference in percentage is 36%.
36% of the votes = 1440 (as per question)
So, 100% = 1440/36 x 100 = 4000 votes.

2. Let ‘a’ be the distance one way.
The time taken during the first half of journey = a/16
The time taken during the second half of journey = a/20
Total time taken = time taken during first half + time taken during second half = a/16+ a/20 = 9 which gives a = 80
The total distance covered = 160 km.

3. Let ‘a’ be the time travelled with the speed of 15 km/hr.
The distance travelled with the speed of 15 km/hr = 15a
The distance travelled with the speed of 40 km/hr = 40(6-a)
Total distance = distance covered during first half + distance covered during second half = 15a + 40(6-a), which is given as 140.
15a – 40a + 240 = 140 so a = 4.

4. Let 100 be the price of Apples of Shashi. Then Shankar is selling at 75 i.e. 25% cheaper than Shashi.
Shankar’s apples are 25% dearer than Sakshi’s. i.e Shankar’s apples are 1.25 times more than Sakshi’s apples.
So, cost of Sakshi’s apples = 75/1.25 = 60.
Vinutha’s apples = 75/1.25 = 60
Therefore, Sakshia’s apples are 40% cheaper than Shashi’s (Rs.60 to Rs.100).

5. Let the total work to dig the well be 150. (The LCM of all times mentioned should be taken, but take 150 for easy calculation.)
So, Anil does 15 units of work in an hour and Sunil does 10 units of work in an hour. 5 hours after Sunil starts digging, he will have completed 50 work. When they work together, they will do 25 amount of work in one hour. In four hours, they will do 100 more work. So they will complete the work of digging the well. Nothing will remain after the ninth hour.
