  • Autonomy under attack, feel IIMs : IIMs feel some of the provisions of the Indian Institutes of Management Bill, 2015 will curb their autonomy, leading to decrease in standards they have maintained over the years.
  • Indian funds in Swiss banks see a dip : In India, the government has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe cases of black money being held by Indians, including the funds held by them in banks of other countries like Switzerland.

  • MEA to recruit experts from private sector: Academicians and experts from various sectors can now look forward to a lateral entry into the Indian Foreign Services. Based on the suggestion made by the Standing Committee on External Affairs, the Ministry is working on the proposal to allow experts from outside the government cadre to join the service.

  • Facing up the Islamic State – The capture of the Syrian border town of Tal Abyad by Kurdish fighters from Islamic State this week deals a significant blow to the radical Sunni Salafi terrorist group. The action not only cut off a vital supply line for IS to its self-proclaimed capital of Raqqa, but also marked a stunning reversal of fortunes for the group.
