  • India, Thailand to sign DTA treaty: India and Thailand will sign a Double Taxation Avoidance Treaty so that people are charged for their incomes in one of the countries, not both.
  • States must strengthen urban local bodies: To ensure the success of the recently launched urban welfare programmes, the Union govt has invited the state govts to empower the local bodies (municipalities/corporations) through transfer of funds and decision-making capability.
  • Camps to settle nationality: The views of enclave dwellers along the Indo-Bangladesh border is going to be taken in camps on the nationality they wish to hold. This is an important step in the implementation of the Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh.

International/ World Affairs

  • Greek PM calls for referendum: The Greek Prime Minister has declared that the country will hold a referendum on July 5 on whether or not to accept the debt deal that has been proposed by its international creditors. Details of the deal also mentioned.

Economy/Business

  • Unions reject key proposals: Five Railway Federation/Associations, representing 13 lakh employees, have rejected key recommendations of Bibek Debroy committee which was appointed to suggest ways to mobilise funds and restructure the railways.
  • Drop in exports may lead to job losses: The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has warned that the continuing decline in exports would result in lay offs and also put pressure on Current Account Deficit (CAD) and has called for proactive response from the government.
  • RBI takes up jute industry funding woes with IBA: The Indian Banks Association is of the view that with respect to certain schemes, the jute industry actually gets loans at cheaper rates than that is applicable to any other domestic loans. So, banks dont get as much interest from jute loans, and prefer to loan to other industries than jute.
