Hi everybody, I got Rank 531 in CSE 2009 and then Rank 21 in CSE 2011. For two years, due to wrong service selection, I suffered a lot.

When You are in the Government Machinery, you come to know a lot of things about services other than IAS, IPS, IFS. So here is what I think:

1. Accounting Services:
   1. Civil Accounts- Good exposure to Central Ministry, always stay in Delhi.
   2. Defence Accounts- Good infrastructure, good long term deputation opportunities,
   3. Railway Account- Good infrastructure, will become DRM as in IRTS.
   4. Postal and Telecom Accounts- must be one of last in the whole list (I got this in 2009)
2. Audit and Account- good service, no interference, classy life, but lacks administrative powers
3. IRTS- very good, IAS of railways, after IRS please put it.
4. Indian Defence Estate Service- powers earlier than IAS, big house, red light from beginning. A very very good Service option. However, there is stagnation in long term
5. ICLS- New service, but good exposure, always in metros, currently headed by promotee level officers, morale of probationers low. But I think that the future is very good
6. DAPINS>DANICS>Pondicherry Police>Pondi Civil. though group B but better than accounting services. lot of administrative powers. DANIP is really good. i met Additional Commissioner of Delhi, a danip, atleast 10 IPS working under him. Good Life.
7. Armed Forces Headquartes- pathetic must be last
8. Railway Personal- so so…

Final order must be-

or

irts>ides>danip>icls>civil accountc>defence accounts>state services if no group b issue>railway personal>postal and telecom accounts

• Don’t take it lightly as life becomes hell due to a wrong selection.
• Morale becomes low specially when no attempts left;
• don’t go after promotions, pay bands and group A or B.

Believe me, life will be done by the time you will see these things. First satisfy your heart and soul, Promotions will follow.

IRTS

As I said IAS of Railways, sky is the limit. You will certainly become Member of Railway Board. Railways treat you like King. PSU of Railways are headed by IRTS

IDES

Very good but not better than IRTS. Specially for people who wants to study, or are from solid professional background. Those few who want to relax can go for it.

Training 6 months only. Very amazing infrastructure and facilities. Red light Ambassador earlier than an IAS. But only one type of work for your whole life.

DANIP

Very good for guys who want police powers, good thing being always staying in metros. I have met many and these people command huge amount of respect and power. I put it after IAS, IFS and IPS.

IRS Customs

Customs will be better in long term as IRS. It has become monotonous, two much of paperwork and hard life. In customs, life is  very good, relaxed and has long term potential of being involved in foreign trade, SEZ CEO etc.

I know some people who left IRS Customs after 5 years and were offered 2 crore as Annual Salary. I have met many senior IRAS officers with no administrative powers.

Accounting and Finance is nothing as compared to administrative services. all my friends are from 4 accounting services (IRS) weather IT or Customs have huge exposure and big cadre strengths. It matters a lot in Government of India. Government is planning to open tax attaches in various consulates too. IRTS can’t be better than IRS.

Everybody gets government accommodation depending upon seniority except IAS and IAAS. these people jump the line.
