Congrats man! I watched your forum Bihar ka talk! Kaffi crazy personality hai tumhari just like your awfg and CA answers (':

1. Did taking a job ever occurred to you? How did you cope up with the berozgar feeling after passing out of IIT Guwahati ? Did you give other exams and cleared them? or just concentrated on cse?

2. How much were you scoring in MGP FLT's ? Did the marks reflect in final upsc? Asking because I'm sceptical of mentors now.

3. How did you manage philosophical essays? How did you prepare for them?

Hehe. Thank You.

1. I started with a super strong belief that I'll clear the exam in the first attempt itself. That's why I jumped into it without taking any coaching or having any peer group. Taking a job did occur to me but I had thought this career option through in my final year of college and made peace with it. I think COVID also did help keep this thought at bay as everything was disrupted. Also, I did not give any other exams in the meantime because I could clear prelims [2020, 2021, 2022] and would write mains. So there was not much time to think!

2. MGP marks are usually slightly on the lower side. I got 129 in GS2 this year but never got more than 105 in MGP. The thing is, focus on the reviews and analysing the model answers more than the marks. Marks will always be subjective. A better way to improve is to use our own wisdom in analysing it after writing the test

3. I prepared the value additions parts- Quotes, anecdotes, shlokas, opinions, books, padma awardees.... Once they were done, I tried to analyse the philosophical quote in different dimensions and tried to fit in my value addition points. Write 2 FLTs [4 essays] and you'll get the hang of it.

@Steph_Curry Congrats, have been following you for some time and it feels great to see someone from the community making it big, onto my question - 2024 will be my 3rd attempt, how do you suggest i go about my mains prep and how should i utilize my mgp tests given that I will be required to shift to pre specific prep once sfg starts

Thank you :)

Assuming you are not writing 2023 mains, I'd suggest you to prepare as if you are giving mains this year itself. If you have attempted MGP papers, do analyse them. I found their model answers to be of very good quality and used to extract points from them. Use the model answers, test reviews, and your own judgement to analyse the tests.

Also, given the nature of the prelims paper,  switch to full-fledged prelims preparation once SFG starts. This can vary as per one's confidence in prelims, but it should not be underestimated at any cost.

thank you so much for this valuable piece, although there is a possibility that i might write mains this year, funny how this year's paper has kept everyone guessing xp

Is there any chance to get admitted into awfg program for 2023 mains? Any chance of further entrance test? As results are out now and I am in.

@Steph_Curry for optional - anthropology, which questions did you choose during the exam and how confident were you in the same? what was your question selection strategy? Did you know all the questions (like megaliths in the northeast, etc)? Gave 2022 mains (89 in paper 1 anthro :( ) and will give 2023 as well, thankfully. I feel that anthro questions are going deeper and am worried as to how to tackle such questions.

@Steph_Curry 1) What were your GS and Essay scores in previous mains, how much you improved?
2) What changes you made this time, and which one of those were crucial in selection this time acc. to you?

Thanks.

Hi guys. A general query around MGP+ course. I joined the yearlong one for 2023. Gave tests for GS 2 and GS 3 and then lacked on discipline. I know I won't be able to write even 50% of the pending tests by this Mains.

Does anyone have an idea if Forum extends the time period to attempt these tests or not?

@TomiokaGiyu @Lawstice .If anyone has any past experience, please do tell. Thanks.

Goodbye old friends. Though I was active on this thread long back and just for a short period of time, but I had fun here. I was neither consistent nor committed to this thread, just like my studies. Just like everything I try my hands on. But it is perhaps the only place where I jotted down my thoughts, so decided to jot down a few more.

Despite the cacophony about prelims being vague, factual, random, absurd, blah blah blah, I know I failed prelims due to my own complacency and I take 100% responsibility of my own failure. Hopefully, I will learn something or most probably I'll carry on with my futile existence squandering few more years, then few more..... Only time will tell.

To all those who cleared prelims, make it count. Best Wishes.

Hello.

I didn't make it. And it hurts. It does. Most of my forum friends have cleared pre and I didn't. It hurts to feel stagnant, to be stagnant.

@Neyawn wrote an article describing the journey of crimson( Natasha Goel), I was there in that  Ethics ka batch sitting around her. When I read that 4-5 people from that batch had cleared pre, I was hurt. Emotional damage (': yaar.

Teachers, be it neyawn or my socio ke prof have told me ki mera rank nikalega. But abhi unhe kaun bataye ki pre hi clear nahi horaha, toh mains mai kya scope, interview toh dur ki baat.

Abh tak fake confidence rakhna was doable,Masti karna was fun but now that itna efforts leke bhi pre nahi nikal raha toh confident rehne mai bhi sharam aarahy hai.

I haven't cried yet, I want to, but ansu nikal nahi rahe. Tried to study for EPFO, but mains ka daar sata raha hai. Ajj I'll hit library once again.

Thought of writing this in 2024 ka thread, cause now I'm 2024, ka aspirant (': but Hey, I have decided ki I'll write mains! Sare Mains ke paper +- 1 day mai likhenge.

Dekhty hai kaun rokta hai muje agle saal rank lane se (':

Pepe, you have this very good trait- to be honest and upfront about your fallacies. We(including me),as aspirants, generally lack this good trait. The general tendency is to blame everything, rather than to introspect. No doubt,UPSC Prelims is random, but so is the tendency to be consistently studying hard for a year long cycle.
