Did Revise Enviorment PT gave 3 insights Revision Plan 3.0 tests and analysed them, Revised 10 tests of insights 2.0 plan and wasted some other 2 hours which I regret so bad. Also, Revised June monthly CA Vision magazine. Have to push tomorrow so that i am pumped up for the abhyaas technically tomorrow (for me day after) .

Cherry picking is the only option which seems doable to me. The other option is also solving multiple (as in lot of) tests and analysing the solution, the questions about govt schemes are prepared well from there and they most probably will cherry pick for you as most important schemes would be covered.

For IUCN Species, what I have done is PT 2020 species, PT 2019 species. I don't think there's any sense in going more than that, because ROI would reduce significantly. That is what I am doing and thinking

Requesting if someone can answer, have been struggling with a silly confusion for a long time.

For current affairs I read newspaper for a year, read monthly current affairs magazines of Vision till Feb, have read March to May PT of vision. I also have read IR PT, Environment PT, Half of Govt Schemes PT and then the it started looking like exam would be postponed and I started preparing mains. Now the problem is I have not read the other PTs and now I feel a little scared to pick the plain new PTs even when I know most of the things in it,  are the ones I have revised from monthly compilations 2-3 times. But that fear of picking up plain PTs at this point is scaring me. Do you think PTs have more content than monthly? Concluding, Do you think my plan of now revising subjects whose PT i have read from PTs and subjects whose PT I have not read from monthly compilations is not a very bad one or i am being idiotic here. If someone can guide, would be thankful.

P.S- I have done a prelims Specific revision from monthly compilations earlier and have highlighted pre-specific content in the vision monthly magazines.

No, PT365 don’t have extra content like you don’t feel out of blue, just take out your old monthly pts & I suppose you r referring to Pt 365 & read side by side. like if you’ll revise science by monthly magazine and side by side see PT365 of science& tech you realise more or less both r the same.

Thanks :)

Day 2 of Posting routine here. Was an above average day to summarise.

1130 Woke up; 1200 On study table, Made a micro plan for today took half an hour but worth it.(Should have done before sleeping) Started my economy static which I planned to finish today from my notebook. So basically, Economy static notebook revision completed except agriculture, 5PM Test 1 Basic Vision revised, Got slow here so 6PM Current affairs of a month for economy done, was supposed to do for 4 months. 8PM Before post dinner rest skimmed through my own small evernote art and culture prelims facts.

Got little lazy post dinner and wasted almost an hour, half of which could have been saved easily.

10PM Skimmed over 11th indian economy NCERT.

1130PM Wasted an hour more.

1230AM Started UPSC PYQ of economics. Vision has this 2000-2016 test form PYQ did that. 187 Questions. took me almost 2.5 hours.

0300 AM -Started Checking the paper, Felt terrible, made mistakes in questions of Monetory policy. And some other simple topics. I still can't get over that. One thing I felt may be could resonate with others, UPSC specially in economy will not tweak questions a lot if asked from some new/complicated topics but if from a common/basic topics like monetory policy, GDP/National accounting, small tweaks will be there. You'll feel, are questions so simple. and they are the ones which were wrong for me.

questions i thought for longer time mostly are right, rather questions which i felt easy got wrong. does not happen that often to me in test series, some things unique to upsc.

Now, will be studying CA economy of a month or two, and sleeping. Just realised, I wrote for too long as I am still not out of that energy how can i mark such simple questions wrong. just those cute looking options, which shout we are the answer but they never were. Will take some time so that i can forgive myself. 😅

A good sleep needed for Abhyas tomorrow. Hope you all have a productive day.

Targets completed, i thought Abhyaas answer key is supposed to release yesterday, which was not true. So Abhyaas today. Other things completed. Slept some 1.5 hours more than usual, fever fatigue got better of me. Also, otherwise Wasted some 1 hour which could have been saved. Still rushed and completed targets. Made me realise I am not keeping ambitious targets for myself. today would push little aggressively. let's see.

Targets for 8th September

Polity Start-  Part 1 and 2 Laxmikant+ Parliament.

Polity PYQuestions Give as test.

Abhyaas 1 Analyse and revise. (Did not do at that time )

CSAT PYQ question practice.

Insta Revision plan 1 mistakes Test 20-30 revision.

Insta Revision plan give 3  tests (25 questions each)

Evernote Environment static revision+Sci-Tech note.

Today an hour before I was wrapping up studies, I had one of those negative thoughts what if as soon as I come out of the exam i realise that i am not close to expected cutoff. Usually i don't have such thoughts as i rarely think of results but looks like the last leg is an experience in itself. Will also have to fight such negative thoughts which come out of nowhere. The only way is may be in your study so much, that it is only about the targets of today, everyday.

Hope you all have a productive day.

Things didn't go as planned. Completed Polity, Social Issues PT, Culture PT. Post that did not start further rather went to see the Schemes Compilation that was still remaining . Felt anxious regarding it as I was earlier planning to do just schemes that appear in tests and that were part of Vision monthly. But anxiety does change things and sometimes make us work. Rather than proceeding with the targets, Sat for 3 hours to go through the scheme compilation. Highlighted schemes that seemed important to me. Still not done, but exhausted right now. So I end my day with it. would give it some half an hour after waking up and also from tomorrow will flip my sleep cycle to adjust to exam timings.

Calculated prelims marks today. Standing precisely on the widely presumed border. So, have decided to hope for the best and start preparing soon(wasted few days already because had to travel and couldn't recover from prelims soon) Tomorrow I won't be able to start full power Mains prep due to some pre-planned commitments but day after tomorrow I'll start posting here my plans too. Hope to get inspired from you all like I have always been. :)

10:30-1:30 Social issues Done

2:00-4:00 Post independence Done

5:00-7:00 Culture Done

10:30-11:30 Answer Done ( wrote something while mother hugged me continuously and father weirdly circled around and boasted of our clan’s history of being efficient workers or something of that sort)

Wasted a half hour refreshing pages for prelims result. 😂

Mother went through a roller coaster ride, from checking my result with my IES exam roll no. to coming back home and realising she was doing some random ish, to rechecking my roll number with the correct admit card three times with the exam name and centre just to be sure. Then collapsing on the bed finally taking a breath. Aaand, then calling my brother who was with all the cousins to have a mini party. And then finally remembering that in all this madness, she hadn’t given me dinner. 😂

I write this while eating dinner.

Ciao.

This is so inspiring, pulling off a whole day of study on the results day. I feel guilty, gotta go. 😅

So, a little good news: after torturous 2 weeks with the Covid 19 finally I have tested -ve today.

Haven't touched or thought about studies in a while. But now as the results are also here. Time to start again, albeit slowly.

24/10:

1) Population Geography

2) Society from Vision monthlies

Answer writing will have to wait for other days.

Also, Ashtami is here so prayers to the mother goddess:

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु मातृ-रूपेण संस्थिता।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Fortunately I too tested negative today but it was just post 8 day quarrantine after being exposed very closely to a patient. Did not get tested before. 2 results in 2 days. Navaratri has come with lot of blessings from mother goddess this time.

Notes--

Prioritise optional over everything for now. You don't remember anything from it.

Something interesting I learnt today:

"Shampoo" the word has it's origin in Indian languages word "Champoo(champi)"  taken by British civil servants from India. They loved the Champoo so much it became a chain of salons in london and word shampoo came in common use. (Got to know by some Shashi Tharoor's YouTube video)

Took a kind of break from forum thinking it would help focus. But finding it extremely overwhelming - so coming back just to feel like I’m not alone if nothing else. Everyone says it’s emotionally taxing and strenuous, and I used to think I was strong for never feeling it that much. *universe chuckles* I was so so wrong. This is the worst, worst phase of prep in the last year and half. But I guess these are the times that test us most. Even when it seems like mains is an insurmountable mountain I’m not ever going to be able to cross, even when everything seems to be slipping away, gotta believe in yourself and keep plowing on.

Hope you guys are doing good :) keep up the work. Keep up the faith.

Going through similar situation rather worse, hence was away from forum. Very overwhelming! The biggest issue being when I feel am not able to do it, feeling that I am not remembering anything, bad tests of optional etc. all push into a place where I try to move anyhow away from the thought of that which is not healthy at all I know. But that's what my anxious mind does. That anyhow way currently was Chess. I started playing chess whenever I felt this way and this became a problem in last week. Now trying to cope it by not leaving any option other than to face those things. Phone was been locked in an almirah, Laptop Focusme all websites blocked except few study websites. But facing that is tough, really. Optional giving me anxiety constantly with the amount of things it wants me to remember, second thoughts about the different sources I have used etc. Nothing is productive in this I know, and I am not taking any radical step like changing my sources etc. but these thoughts and my habit of trying to anyhow move away affects productivity significantly. Gotta be an adult and handle emotions properly.

@whatonly The whole story just to say "Yes happening with some others too." Worse for some, better for some. Let's hope we prove to be strong enough to fight this out.

A note to self

It's all coming back to me. This constant gnawing feeling that time is running out. Fact is that it is. I've been so anxious the past few weeks that I've been unable to get the best out of my day. Every time, I tell myself that maybe a break would sort it out. I take the break; still, it comes back to me. The only way seems to me to actually chew it up and spit it out.

I have so much left to do. I wish there were a way that one could just make a plan, stick to it, and see the whole thing through. There may be some who do it, and to them, I take my hat off. It's simply not my cup of tea. I've tried and I've failed a great number of times, just over the past month alone. The enormity of it all is mind-boggling and quite simply, overwhelming. I don't think I have been more stressed in my entire life.

If the past few years have taught me anything at all, it is that stress brings out the worst in me. I get nothing done, and I'm so fucking snappy. I've been easy going and a chiller my entire life. This part of my life calls for discipline that I can't seem to find. Even on the days that I find that discipline, I mostly end up finishing too little, comparing with what is left for me to do. Every day, there is renewed energy, but most nights, there's terrible anxiety.

I need to find a way to be calm. The only way that I can seem to do that right now is to allow for the possibility that it might not happen for me. I need to let go of the feeling that I am much closer to my goal. The closer I think I am, the more anxious I get about the result. I need to let it be. I need to remember that this is all not purely within my control. I need to be authentic. The only thing that I can do is to maximise my chances. The first thing I need to do towards that end is to find my lost confidence. I need to stomach the fact that my preparation will be far from perfect. Yet, I must prime myself for giving my best shot on the day. It's a funny little game, this.

Maximising my chances right now can only be done through shortcuts. It is clear as day to me. Be it in my optional or in GS, that is the only option that is open to me to even make a fight of it. Hence, I must take them. Shortcuts have served me well in my life. I think they are underrated. 250 or 150 words is all I need. Nothing less, nothing more. This is when the tables will turn. Whether I am able to see these 51 days through and keep my head about me will determine whether I am successful.

I need to keep faith, not in my reading or my preparation, but in myself. This is what gives me my best chance. There is simply no magic pill that works for me. Not hard work. Not smart work. Definitely not the beautiful strategy I penned down on a thread here when I was still naive.

The only time I was successful was when I was calm. So, maybe that is what I must bank on. Whatever it may be, I will face it. The only thing I can do now is to cover the gaping holes that I have in my preparation. My efforts will be towards that end because that is simply the only thing in my control. This is an exam that a person who does not have the same resources and privileges as me should be, and have cleared in the past. I've been making a mountain out of a reasonably large hill. I need to direct my efforts towards climbing that hill, not the mountain I've built up inside my head.

It's definitely daunting, but my head has been making it a hundred thousand times more daunting than it is. The time is ripe for simplification level Patootie. Break that shit down to manageable pieces. Do no more than that. If they are unmanageable pieces, do the manageable bits. If there are no manageable bits, it is by definition unmanageable.

So, here's the last plan that Imma make. It's the plan that I've always followed. The one where there is no plan. No schedule. No daily targets. Just execution. My exam is on January 8. Not the mock on Sunday. I know the parts where I'm weak, and I know the parts where I'm strong. It's only about putting my best foot forward on the day.

Cut the noise out. The noise inside my head, the noise from the mentor, the noise from the mock test feedback. Sometimes it gets too much that I feel like I can't hear the calming inner voice that is Patootie. I need to cut all of that out. That bubble is what I'm looking for again. It's a fookin utopia where everything is good. No matter what happens on the outside, everything is good inside Patootie's bubble.

I may not be able to make the exam work, but I'll find my peace again. That, to me, is the most important thing. If I can find that peace again, I feel life will be good. Life has to be good.

What if I fall? I'll get up, dust myself off and find myself another way.

But what if I fly? That's gonna be a whole new story altogether.

Gold! As always! Will be reading this every 6 hours. God bless you!

Hello everyone! In forum after a long time. Remember,@HotBloodPrince saying that one should ensure that they only revise in the last 1 month and be done with things by then. I just realised I am very far from this. I still have not studied a lot of GS subjects which were common to prelims and still not done with some current affairs. Few other random topics too. I pretty much know that I messed my optional and lot other things resulting in this state. The whole story to ask if I have to choose in completing every topic once with less revision and answer writing practice or doing high yield topics and more revision and answer writing practice, then what would you suggest? I know, should not have ended like this at the 1st place but still. Any help would be very appreciated. (1st attempt)

@thepolicydreamer  Friend , what I can gauge from your statement that you have not finished certain static topics of history, geo, polity. You know, when we think about these topics, we fill that so much has to be done and we don't remember anything!! But ,then once you give 6 to 8 hrs on each of them ,you would suddenly feel the confidence.
Further, don't fret about Current Affairs much. It's unending yaar. My suggestion would be just try to take optional under your command, don't lose hope, in 10 days optional me you would cover a lot.
For random GS topics, just have a broad framework on each of the key words mentioned in the syllabus of GS 2,3. Example : Food Processing : Definition, hub and spoke wali diagram, sampada,UMFP, baki demand -  supply se you can manage. Similarly let's say for pressure groups: definition, type, role.

Baki question se aapko us din khelna padega. Just prepare the micro core of each topic, periphery you can construct(I know you won't be having the confidence, but trust me during paper aap kar loge).
In my humble opinion, give atleast 2 test in each coming week. Thay would just keep you in the flow.

Best of luck. Remember Dhoni, in last 12 balls,he changed the course of 100 overs match.

Thank you for replying. You have gauged my situation precisely. Will do as you said. Fingers crossed.
