Does a virus only need a biological vector ?

This is a 2013 PYQ ..

Answer is A.

Statement 2 is wrong - Virus is dependent of the host (plant or animal) cell for metabolic functions. When we talk of synthetic mediums, the trait of 'metabolic functions' does not occur because well, they are synthetic mediums, and not plant cells or animals cells - where metabolic functions can occur.

Statement 3 is wrong - Virus has two modes of transmission - biological and mechanical. In biological transmission, the virus replicates into more. In mechanical transmission, the virus does not replicate into more.

Hope this helps!

Edit- Even if you don't know jack about Viruses, this question can be solved using the extreme statements method. :P

Thanks alot!

actually i thought the third statement to be correct because we all know that viruses need a host to replicate and survive so I thought maybe only biological vectors are required for transmission ..

@AyeRamadhir Also an addition, a simple observation based. Since viruses can travel through air, or clothes, furniture etc (COVID related instructions) , it shows there isnt a need for biological vector. It can spread through non biological (air, wood etc) also. But, Malaria for eg, doesnt travel through air, person must be bitten by the anopheles mosquito to get infected. So, malaria can be spread by biological vector only. I hope i am right in this logic
