Hey!
Just wanted to know if the public fund we talk about in context of Core Investment Companies-CICs (As a source of funding) is the same as the Public Fund defined in Article 266? Also, can someone differentiate between what a Public Fund and a Public Deposit is? (Apparently CICs can only accept public funds, not public deposits. I can't understand why!) Thanks :)
@Archand Yes. Article 216 explains it well. Quoting the relevant bit below.'192A. Constitution of High Courts. Every High Court shall consist of a Chief Justice and such other judges as the President may from time to time deem it necessary to appoint:
Provided that the judges so appointed shall at no time exceed in number such maximum as the President may, from time to time, by order fix in relation to that Court.’
Thank you :)
For the Agri laws, Inter State Trade & Commerce is a subject under the Union list under the 7th schedule.
This was the justification the government gave, not sure if it will hold up in court.
A friend made me realise that not all trade is going to be inter state and hence this wasn't correct. Apologies. As someone already mentioned above, it does seem that Parliament made use of the item 'Trade & Commerce' under the concurrent list.
Posting it here for clarity:
@Archand This was asked in CDS this year. Don't have the official key yet but I found 'b' given on several websites. Please tell how you ruled out 'c' ?
As is mentioned above, real interest rates are impractical to use in the real world. And I had also solved this using@D503's approach. Reverse engineering basically. In his equation, the amount paid back does not consider inflation and therefore it can't be real interest rate. Hope this helps :)
@ArchandI don't know what to make of it, the programme did talk about non payment of taxes but the second phase could never begin due to chauri chaura. Still I'd go with d
Yes, that makes sense. Thanks!
@Archand You are right. The wrong part here is 'in interest of state authority'. Anything like 'vulnerable sections/ society' in place of 'state authority' would've made this option correct too IMO.
Ah yes, of course. That makes sense. Thanks!
Actually, ES has India at the 5th position but of late, India has climbed up to 4th. This has happened after the survey was released. You can refer to the July Vision CA, it was based on RBI data if I remember. However, I guess it is safe to go with 5th considering that it comes from Economic Survey.
introspecting about "all of these" in sci tech xD
bas hoping for official key before prelims
Will be a big shift. I was counting on those "All of these" questions :P
I didn't go for all of these in AI capability question, that only seemed to be anti ninja question.
Now that I think of it, the fact that they added a question with the phrase "With the present level of development" does make it seem that they want to move away from the "all of these" approach. Hoping that they release the answer key quickly.

Can we rely on? I know we can rely on considering the answer keys, but I am really really fearful about them and always tend to think and overthink in science and tech questions which obviously leads me to getting them wrong. How you guys would go about it?
There will always be ambiguity. Based on the circumstantial evidence that we had, it seemed feasible to mark D wherever it seemed possible, specially for emerging technologies. However, the complexity of this exam keeps increasing every year so we can't really be sure.
A lower cut off can either be due to these S&T questions or due to the CSAT effect. I'm eager to find out which one is it. Does anyone have any idea how much time it takes for UPSC to release the answer key?
@sstarrr Like you said, can only focus on static books and hope what's been working continues to work. I'll have to tone down on the guesses incase the answer key throws up something new, but that's why it is the 'Unpredictable' Public Service Commission.
Sigh. Feels scary to even think of changing the strategy this close to the exam.
@Steph_Curry No takers for A? Indians were largely excluded from government services on the pretext of being unworthy and disloyal. But then this deprived British to save revenues as Indians could be hired cheaply. So woods dispatch proposed the curriculum which make Indians more worthy, modern, English and ultimately mobilise them under British work force.
I was going to go for A as well. Wood's Despatch wasn't about reforming traditional education, it was about introducing modern education.
How I did it was to fix the biggest variable first and then count manually. For the Rs 50 denomination, only three cases are possible - Either we don't take it at all, take it once or we take it twice.
If we take it twice, we can't take any Rs 10 denomination note and hence the only way is to take 7 Rs 1 denomination coins. -->1 way
If we take Rs 50 once, now many cases are possible:
1). Rs 50 + 5 Rs 10 + 7 Rs 1
2). Rs 50 + 4 Rs 10 + 17 Rs 1
We will get 4 more such ways -->6 ways
If we don't take Rs 50 at all, then -
1). 10 Rs 10 + 7 Rs 1
2). 9 Rs 10 + 17 Rs 1
We will get 9 more such ways -->11 ways
I hope 18 is the answer :)
@Archand Yes, the answer is B) but I'm consuming lot more time than required. Even after that I missed one equation.
To tackle missing equations, it is best to first identify the bottlenecks. Like the Rs 50 note is a bottleneck here and you can derive the other cases through it. If we do it arbitrarily we often miss out, happens to all of us!
Not sure how to tackle the time problem, if I spend more time on a particular question then I just skip it. Enough questions for us to solve in the paper, we need to ensure that we see them at least once.
» show previous quotes Yes, but there was a very specific reason he wanted to stay away from the company. Just staying away from the company doesn't make sense. A/c to wikipedia article(I know, not the most reliable but this statement was not pointed out for incorrect citation), Mir Qasim moved his company to Munger to raise his army by streamlining taxes and improving finances.
Would love for others to jump in and give their views.
I answered A because from whatever I had read it seemed that Mir Kasim wanted some breathing space from the British. Both options can be true, but A seemed more probably because remodelling the army is a second order effect. What I mean is, first he wanted to be away from EIC and then later he would be able focus on building his army as a result of being away from Calcutta.
Why is 2nd statement correct?
Anyone explain this. This is not mentioned in the act imo. There is no condition for whip.
There are three different types of whip. As far as I know, this is the second type of whip (talks about presence/absence in the house). Usually, political parties only issue the third kind of whip (which basically guides MPs on what side to vote on).
As far as I know, whip is not defined in the act and therefore parliamentary conventions are followed.
Limits for FPI in corporate bonds and g-sec ?Except through FAR route, FPI limit is 6% on Gsecs and 2% on SDL
Don't know about corporate bonds. The market seems at a nascent stage for this kind of regulation to exist?
The limits for FPI investment in Corporate bonds shall remain unchanged at 15% of outstanding stock of securities for FY 2021-22 - RBI website.
Thank you. Noted.
We have a proper 'UPSC Industry' around us, kind of disappointing that we don't have people who would collate the real marks vs coaching answer key differential of 15-20 people and try to find out the right answers.
Seems practically difficult but it is possible mathematically, with certain assumptions of course.
Alas, a man can only wish!
1. Odisha’s Bhitarkanika National Park is the second-largest mangrove forest in India.
2. Mangrove cover in Gujarat is the second largest after Sundarbans in West Bengal.
I have come across both these statements a lot but they appear contradictory to me. They both seem correct according to multiple sources but I cant fathom. Can anyone elaborate?
1). Compares all the mangrove forests in India with respect to their area.
2). Compares all the states in India with total area of mangroves in them.
Gujarat does not have a single mangrove collection that is bigger than Bhitarkanika but the total area under mangroves of Gujarat (distributed over different areas within state) is more than that of Odisha
@Purplesunbird Rural-dual, urban-only RBI
Rural except PACS. PACS is not under RBI, I think?
Consider the following statement about Pegasus which has been in news recently.
1- It is a software especially designed for cyber surveillance only.
2- It can be installed either physically or virtually.
3- The installation of software require multiple clicks by the targetted person.
4- It employs Zero Click attack.
Select the correct option.
a- 2,3,4
b-1,2,4
c-1,2,3
d- 2 and 4 only
D?
1. Which of the following provisions of constitution have a bearing on education?
1. DPSP
2. Rural and ULBs
3. 5th schedule
4. 6th schedule
5. 7th schedule
options:
(a) 1 and 2 only
(b) 3,4, 5 only
(c) 1, 2, and 5 only
(d) 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5
The key printed in the book says (c) but why won’t it be (d)?
2. Is there a mention of no-confidence motion in the constitution?
There is no mention of no-confidence motion but (apparently) it is implicitly implied by the constitution (A75)
So does an implicit mention also qualify as a mention?
I think if the question specifically asks about it being mentioned, we'll have to say no. However, if a question asks whether it is a part of constitution, we'll have to say yes.
I've tried to rationalise it by thinking of how terms like judicial review, rule of law are considered to be a part of constitution despite there being no mention :)
Uzbekistan - Tashkent. I try to remember it using L.B Shastri and Tashkent files
Kazhakstan - Astana - Rakesh Astana - an infamous cop in the news xP
This works for me 😂 Sounds entirely stupid as I write it. Hope it helps :')
You're going to need a new trick.
Astana's name got changed to Nursultan a few years back. Nursultan is also the name of their 'ruler' :P
One more example of where "logics" Failed me was a question on "dwarasamudra" Probably in case 2020 or 2019..
I was like dwarasamudra sounds like gateway of India, so must be in maharasthra...
And boy,, I was soo wrong..
Not to say that logics don't help, but we can not rely on them 100%..
Kya pata meri hi kismat khraab hai, mere logics hi illogical hote hain shayd 🥵
Mistake in these is acceptable. But How to guess these qns if you don't know all provisions of scheme.
Which of the following are the objectives of 'National Nutrition Mission'?
1. To create awareness relating to malnutrition among pregnant women and lactating mothers.
2. To reduce the incidence of anaemia among young children, adolescent girls, and women.
3. To promote the consumption of millets, coarse cereals, and unpolished rice.
4. To promote the consumption of poultry eggs.
Select the correct answer using the code given below:
My confusion wud be b/w A and C
I think we can discount statement 4 considering that India has the maximum proportion of vegetarians in the world. Don't think any scheme can change such food habits.
However, what made you discount statement 3?
