Yes they do but if we absolutely have to choose 1 then amount of percolation seems most appropriate. Higher rainfall doesn’t necessarily mean high ground water recharge. It would be dependent on other factors as well like soil type etc. But if percolation of water is higher then it definitely means more groundwater recharge. Just my thought process don’t know the answer.
Economy PT365, page-6 (Government Borrowing) : "Rising borrowing will put pressure on the bond market and crowding out resources for pvt sector."
Can anyone explain how rising borrowings by the government will put pressure on bond market.
@Breaker_Morant Higher govt borrowing ->demand increases ->interest rate increases not only for govt but as well as other borrowers ->yield will be affected. Hence pressure on bond market.
Crowding out effect - govt. Borrowing the major chunk of resources, pvt. Sector left out.
@Impavid_Girl My thinking was: Interest rates increased ->Higher yield in bond market ->Investors will invest in bonds because higher return ->Development of bond market (notpressure on bond market)
I think high government borrowing leads to high yielding government bonds which disincentives people to buy non government bonds hence negatively affects the bond market.
For GST question if you can eliminate option 2 and 3 you will get the answer. Anything canned can be equated with something we buy at a supermarket which we all know isn’t exempted from GST. Cooked eggs can be equated with buying something at a restaurant which again attracts GST. So I marked option 1. These methods can obviously go wrong but as far as I have experienced it works most of the time.
any compilation of international organisations?
Hey
This is a 2013 PYQ. I think the answer should be (c) because the ques says balance of payments which includes all economic transactions i.e . current and capital. However the official key says its (a) but isnt import and export transactions part of Balance of Trade ? Can someone explain ?
Third statement is wrong because it's not just transaction between governments. Ex remittances, ECB FPI FDI etc. And the first option mentions import export transactions not import export of goods of services. So maybe that's why it's right.
Functional chromosomes can be created by joining segments of DNA taken from cells of different species. Why is this statement wrong?
A functional chromosomes consists of various histone and non histone proteins apart from DNA. We can combine DNA from different species with recombinant DNA technology but forming a functional chromosome can be a really complex task which I have never heard of.
so as per your belief virus can not be cultured in synthetic media, as it lacks basic organs, in 2016 UPSC asked same type of question@sunnyleony that's just research. UPSC doesn't expect you to know research level biology. Rather they expect you to know basic biology where we read mitochondrial disease are transferred by mother only. Its very basic biology. People referring to research papers for basic biology answers have got it all wrong. The paper is called general studies for a reason.PS. I have masters in biotechnology. The answer is c. Believe it if you want. Kindly don't tag further.
Obviously virus cannot be cultured in a synthetic medium. They lack the basic cellular machinery which is required for culturing. When we culture virus in vitro some kind of biological host is required but you can't simply put a virus on nutrient agar medium and expect it to grow. Its impossible.
@Asmita_101 whats correct is correct. upsc also doesnt expect us to go visit chandraketu garh and see if there is teracotta or not. mitochondrial diseases are transmitted by nuclear dna mutations too. while fathers cannot transmit mitochondrial dna, they sure can transmit nuclear dna. your reasoning that upsc doesnt expect us to read biology is pretty much irrational and unnaturally flawed . Going along your argument upsc should have not asked about structural details of retroviruses and adenoviruses in such depth which may have saved 2.66 marks of mine :)btw have a look at this govt. website Mitochondrial diseases - PubMed (nih.gov) thats not research but medically accepted definition of mitochondrial diseases
Neither do I want your seal of approval on what I know nor do I care. Kindly don't tag me any further as I mentioned in my comment.

And kindly refer to this article from where both the statements of the question are lifted. And next time before calling others irrational and flawed get your facts straight.

my respected sister you told me to not tag you and i wont, but then you again gave some misleading material in your fragile defence. If my constructive criticisms hurt you i apologize but your article only talks about statement 1. upsc did pick statement 1 but not statement 2regarding mitochondrial diseases from the article. Dear sister , the term disease is mentioned 7 times and no where it is mentioned that mitochondrial diseases are entirely inherited from mothers only. In pursuit of constructively criticising you i may have called your argument irrational but that was to throw open the truth to you not to demean you. Madam, the reason option 2. is wrong is because we are talking about mito. disease and not mito. dna. Even mito. disease are caused by nuclear dna which Fathers can share. its shame you didnt read my suggested scientific link and if you retaliated after reading that link its disgrace.
I am not interested in tagging you but as a staunch follower of gandhiji i cannot let truth subside. If i feel someone is wrong its my dharma to correct them. If you dont approve of that, you dont have to reply further, but if you do, its my right to correct you in case you err scientifically or technically or conceptually whatsoever as much as my capabilities allow me to.
With due respect madam, i hope you clear this exam with flying colors. btw the world would be better if all of us talked kindly to all of us despite disagreements.
Please end this discussion. And please don't tag further.
