Geography optional Mains 2019 discussion | Lessons Learnt

@jnikI have done 500 program of guidance and I have found many questions from the notes of sir. Concepts and theories he taught were applicable in several of the questions of paper 1 And 2.

@jnikyes okay bro

7.2k views

@jnikdid you write mains this year? How will be marks this year. Will it go down?

7.2k views

@Geoyes I agree this paper was more geo than gs. Need to insert theories and models in almost all questions. I used concentric ring model and examples of Delhi and Mumbai to explain land rent question. Showed that slums develop near the CBD area as poor cannot afford travel cost in the suburban areas. I guess they need core geo people this time ....

@vvvikas00782121st mains

@al_birunihow to arrive at expected score bro? How much attempted or quality is the parameter or something else?

3.8k views

@al_biruniwere you in any test series?

3.8k views

@al_biruni1st mains so cannot predict as such... Easier to correlate to test series so asked..

3.8k views

@starksbatch??

3.8k views

@starksthis year man. 2019 batch ...you?

3.3k views

@starksJuly batch after pre. Did you write mains?

3.3k views

@Rand_Al_Thorthey give low marks man. But in ranking I was in top 15 in almost every test..marks 99 to 120.

3.3k views

@starksthis year

3.3k views

@SUMANSAURABH201296904I am reading a couple of newspapers. Next pre ke liye also doing something. A lot of exercise and building social capital.

3.3k views

@Rand_Al_Thoryes there are some questions from 500 program. I have heard that they give more marks to test series student. I know a student getting 60-70 marks who last year got some 290 marks in upsc. So you see these marks hold no significance.

3.3k views

@132_SIDwhich ques you left in paper 1?

3.3k views

@132_SIDwhat did you write in gross reproduction rate? I had no idea wrote generic stuffs.

3.3k views

@132_SIDnrr me Jo feka he wo on correct lines he almost but grr me pata nai tha daughters only lete Hain so totally wrong. Relationship wrong show kiye hain. Let's see

3.2k views

@132_SIDBhai pehla mains he 270-290 aa jaiye I will be happy. Paper good hi gya he ...

3.2k views

@132_SID2 paper me marks jump hue Hain sabke due to liberal checking... Is Saal bhi Hoga kya aisa? Paper 1 me Aapne kon kon sa questions attempt kiya? I attempted 3,6,8.

3.2k views

@132_SIDAapka Lagta he Hindi medium side effect he marks me?

3.2k views

@RagsI know a guy who was not selected even after scoring more than 280. And one guy with 275 marks got air 25. So I think marks in Geo should be more than 270-280 to get decent rank.

3.2k views

Guys better discuss some questions. That will change your mental map regarding your score. But plz say what you wrote and do not write some model answers? Questions on development paradigm?

3.2k views

@Rand_Al_ThorI think they are some paid writers becoz such students were eliminated in pre itself.

3.2k views

@Arrah_JilaI did not attempt this one but I think biosphere reserve is for species diversity. So mention of UNESCO mab is needed with core buffer circular diagram.

3.2k views

@jumbowrote about navigation and communication satellites, remote sensing sat, earth observation and weather monitoring sat, cartosat for Topo studies, research sat like chandrayan and mangalyan. For security part wrote about defense communication sat, food security by agro monitoring sat, water security by observation sat, mission Shakti etc. Wrote about space debris challenges.

3.2k views

@jumboI covered both spatial and temporal aspects of fertilizer etc use. Used diffusion of info concept, green rev both pre and post analysis, distance decay from core areas and used maps to substantiate. Generic stuff for health issues. What you guys wrote?

3.2k views

@Bubba_gumpcannot comment on marks. But I think above 12 would be a good score.

3k views

@jumbothis was one of the easiest question I think. Rainfall pattern in time and space with reasons maps and diagrams. Vegetation diagram and correlated with rainfall. I don't know what different one could write in this.

3k views

@vvvikas0078212mine 7 are correct. Thenmala (knew in Kerala /TN border) and durgaduani creek ( Durga gave away Bengal linkage). However explanation is not detailed.

2.9k views

@132_SIDha creek is usually found in border states so guj/Bengal was most probable. Aapke bhi 5+ correct Hain?

2.9k views

@132_SIDproblems of Hindi medium☹

2.8k views

@Bubba_gumpit is bro. It's upto us to pick the relevent content. What sir teachers is small part of his total info. Also his coverage of paper2 is suboptimal.

2.8k views

@SUMANSAURABH201296904i am glad that I left that one✌

2.8k views

@SUMANSAURABH201296904attempted 3,7,8. What about you?

2.8k views

@Bubba_gumpweb of life is seamless: used food chain, succession of vegetation, diversity of species in terms of eating habbit etc, various biomes and presence of ecotones, wrote other things
In disruption part wrote about global imbalances like climate change, global warming, ozone layer disruption, forest fires, ocean acidification etc

3k views

@Bubba_gumpI made up the answer on spot with my gs environment knowledge. I am poor in env in optional.

3k views

@SUMANSAURABH201296904I used broder area prog, drought area, backward area Dev prog, watershed area dev. I included recent program such aspirational district, health programs such icds, Mnegra etc. Analysis was asked so I mentioned pros and cons of such incentive based prog. Mentioned fund crunch, corruption, decentralisation is inefficient etc. Way ahead was use of technology such as Aadhar linkage etc

3k views

@132_SIDyup everybody has written on more or less the same lines. Such ques would be awarded avg marks imo. Differences will arise in pap1.

3k views

@132_SIDcontent wise is ok but it depends on linkages, flow, did you substantiate well with examples etc.

3k views

@132_SIDthen expect upward of 70.

3k views

@Arrah_Jilatheories are part of answer. It forms 30 -70% of the answer depending on the question. And they are more relevent to pap1 where there is strict checking based on model answers. Pap1 is a geographer's arena to showcase your strength in theory and their merits and demerits. In pap2 there is application of such theories. In this one your analysis on a topic based on multi dimensions is the key. Theories add glamour only here.

@Ragsfor foundation do from Shabbir sir. If you clear pre do 500 of guidance.

3k views

@rahulkoppati2566I did after pre and was able to retain the knowledge and energy to mains. His course formed the peak in my study and at the climax I hit the mains. But yes it's upto the candidate to decide.

3k views

@Scorpion888500 at guidance is the real steroid man....pumped me up like anything. But yes I would suggest to do guidance only when your fundamentals are strong otherwise useless. But bro leaving 40 marks blank is not good idea. Even I did not know few 10 markers but wrote something. Let's hope to crack mains ...cheers.

3k views

@Scorpion888except a few ques, many were open ended. I did not know transpiration, phreatic, grr and few others. But I attempted most of them. Sandspit one I guessed on spot and got partially correct ( knew it was coastal landform). Phreatic I wrote some sh#t which is partially ok. Replacement rate ques also partially ok. Rest mostly went fine for me. Mapping also 7/10 on map but explanations are clumpsy. Let's see how it comes up.

3k views

@Bubba_gumpmaybe you should work on fundamentals more. I did my homework so found classes very interesting.

3k views

@Scorpion888280-90 plus would be expected as many people found the paper tough. Upscaling might affect the marks also so I am hoping for good scores. 1st mains so I might be overoptimistic.

3k views

@vvvikas0078212Bhai gs was ok. Gs1 geo part was good, gs2 okayish, gs3 was good and 4 better. I think 400+ is sure if marking pattern is same as 2018.

3k views

@hirockyrocks7101thanks for this faith in me. Let's hope we all make to interview.

@tmblnd1325194test series cost is 12k and 500 cost is 24k around. So I would join 500 again as by paying 10k more I am getting 15 sessions. Imo go for 500 and attend selective lectures. If you have fund crunch then do test series and revise old 500 lectures.

3.6k views

@tmblnd1325194build your base with phy geo of savinder and Rupa. After pre mug up 500 notes and your notes from the two books.

3.6k views

@hirockyrocks7101content changes. This year sir will focus more on models and theories. Better to study what is in the trend.

3.6k views

@hirockyrocks7101yup 70% content is same if not more. I have seen people doing 500 twice. But it purely depends on personal choice I believe. If you are good in geo then test series should suffice.
