How do you take breaks when studying? Weekly or after 10 days?

So this is one problem that plagues all. Some people are rational and take breaks once every week, like Monday ( when no tests are to be written ). others go on studying without a break, until after 10-11 days, there is a breakdown and then they end up wasting3-4 days. Yet some people are able to study for 15-20 days with some 3-4 days unplanned break after that?

What do you do / end up doing?

I take half a day break a week. On good weeks it is planned. Post the sunday drill of writing tests.

On days I am not able to concentrate, which usually happens in the 2nd half of the day, I call that day off and take it as an unplanned break. I compensate that by not taking off on the planned day that week.

On daily basis too i take out around 1:30 hour away from studies, which is mostly working out.

You workout by going to Gym or you walk? I have been in this rut for some years now, and I have tendancy to gain weight. My weight has now increased to 89 kgs. Though I am not thinking of doing anything now, this new variant scares me, and i want to start with some excercise.

How do you workout? How regualare are you with it? I am under extreme stress this year, and feel i need to sweat a little just to be keep sane. How would you suggest I begin?

Usually after 12 days and it’s a half day break. Because If I take a full day off I end up messing up with my studies so I don’t do that and everyday I walk on my terrace for 2hours or 1.5 hours and during that time I tend to watch online letcures of modern history as I enjoy history so it’s like a story time walking.

@Neyawn sir, I scored 54.43 in 2020 pre.. had nosedived into the prep and realized there were major knowledge gaps. Prepared for 2021 with all zeal and expanded my reading list too.. but this time I became so anxious while giving the paper that I misread 6 questions and started panicking after looking at sports questions. I am scoring 60+ in 2021 which is making me more anxious.

I have enrolled for SFG but I am even worried about the entrance.

I have been a topper throughout.. always worked hard and got things done but with prelims my whole confidence seems shattered.

I haven’t really taken day long breaks unless it’s a mental health emergency. Also I notice I get really bored/ anxious when I end up taking a day or two off. I do end up slotting a few hours or R&R time in a day (which usually involves watching mindless shows/ videos on YT). Helps to keep me sane and works with my workaholic nature.

Same. Last time I took the break, it turned out to be a stress break instead. For me unplanned half day breaks work perfectly fine. And moreover  pumping iron at the gym works like a stress buster for me.

We wanted a logo. Couldn't figure out one, So.

Is this too simplistic?

Lets be honest here. 60 marks means we have not completed the basic books and the revisions. You do it, you will make it.

Too often, we underestimate or overestimate the prelims.

My 2 cents is just give it 4 or 5 months dedicated, you will clear it. People do.

At some point you will have to draw the line and give Prelims the respect it deserves. It is easy to be seduced by the cacophony that will make you believe that its a Russian Roulette, but its not.

I meanLifeis more a Russian Roulette than this.

And then they never ask about the Prelims phase.

Yes, just like a 'simple answer' which fetch better marks.

Moreover there must have been professionals deciding this logo. Haina? :P

I too have a similar tendency of gaining weight if i dont exert myself physically. Plus, with time workout has become a stress buster away from the uncertainty of life/exam.

I go to the gym 5 days a week mostly. Been regular with it now for a while.

I have shifted to a group class based gym, Cult. All you need is 45 minutes to spare plus the travelling time. I keep my session at the end of the day like 8ish. Come back have dinner and go to sleep.

Keeps me motivated throughout the day as i have something to look forward at the end of the day.

You could give it a try. Hope this helps :)

You must be from GGN or Bangalore? Which one is it?

@Neyawn Is SFG offline available this year for Hyd based students Sir ? Wanted to confirm before enrolling. Taking online didn't work quite well for me last time. Hope it's available to offline students as well.

@pgpt The thing with toppers is that they do not what to do when they don't top ( read succeed ). Your ability to succeed in this exam wll depend on how you handle disappointments .

Oh no, you quite overestimate Forum Team :(

I had a hard time getting a graphics guy do it. Then I went all by my hunch. :(

Actually, like any organization, we work on a constraint - financial and human resources. We don't kind of burn money on anything but education as of now, not because of any moral reasons, but because we think its not fair. Not even tech spendings are given the due and I loath myself for this.

I mean If we had more resources we would first-hand make this website - this beautiful community more awesome.

I usually take half day break on Sundays and sometimes a full day off.  Earlier, I used to spend that time watching movies/series but realized it wasn't really helping me refresh like a break is supposed to do.

So I now keep both my laptop and phone away on Sunday and spend that time with parents and friends.

Preparing since Feb this year, so haven't really needed a major break as such. I did spend a week in my native place(Bihar) recently which was quite refreshing.
