@HaeckelWell I guess it is not the issue with answer writing as such but the flawed argument that answer writing is quintessential for success in mains. I read on insights that those who are not practising answer writing should automatically consider themselves out of the race. This is not true. Need for answer writing varies from person to person. Some people need it while others don't and over the course of this arduous upsc journey each person figures out whar approach suits them the best. Each approach needs to be respected and not be dismissed or ridiculed.

@bevancomI agree with you brother for parts that coaching or test series etc are not must.
example wale part me i think pahle se exanplea banake rakhne padte hai ki globalisation aya to 3 examples, idea of india pe aya to ye 3 example, transportation pe aya to 3 examples, i also make concise notes but at the bottom of every page i write examples from newspaper yojana etc
its true that i did not had examples of indepth case studies for 30 40 percent questions, but even in those questions i was able to mention famous examples like biopiracy of turmeric in traditional knowledge, ralegan siddhi for watershed, etc.
its not necesarily a result of slogging test series but sometime a personal touch of hobby

your analysis is very cruel reminder of whats missing in strategy of masses preparing upsc cse mains, writing irrelevant answers has become a trend rather than whats asked people write what they know.

@K_9right, i think whether one does answer writing or not, brainstorming important topics before hand is must, you should have a rough draft for questions like inclusive growth, gandhi, probity in governance, disasrer management, especially case studies.
and in optionals especially for one like anthropology answer writing is important to retain memorised things

In answer to the question of 1940s i thought that it is about decade starting from 1930 to 40 . . So wrote about starting of world war 2 and its unilateral anouncement , rise of muslim league and its peak after 1946, dominion status issue and opposition with demand of total freedom by young brigade,1935 act and fractures created between hindu and dalits which results in pune act etc which are between that period and has delayed freeedom. . Answer dil se likha with detailed facts etc but period galat ho gaya. . How much will it costs???

@Minimumwageimho answer writing for certain parts is must for remembering especially in archaeology, have been scoring good in antropology, essay and gs1 pulled me back last year.

@sat_009bhai, how was anthro marking in 2018 i.e for 10,15,20 marks?

I guess they awarded 5 to avg answer 6 to good and 7 to best answer out of 10 . . In 15 marker same pattern was 5-6 , 8 -9 and 10 -11 . . Out of 20 could have been 10 , 12-14 and 14 -15 for best. . Seeing the scores of guys and difficulty level of paper. This could have been the marking scheme i guess
