Mains 2019 Preparation and Discussion Thread

Do we need to study a-lot to clear this exam? I mean is it like all points, data, issues and challenges should be on our tips ? What if we cant remember all points and data given in 365 ? Hell scared

But maintaining structure in every question in 3 hrs is bhai very difficult for lesser mortals like me.. @nikhilit20112751 bro.. last year i got 282 in Socio Optional.. But did GS very bad.. In 2017 too, 280 in Socio and again GS nosedived.. This tym i thought ki my notes in Socio are comprehensive and help me get decent marks.. I focussed more on GS and Test series, structures, flow chart etc.. BUT BUT Socio Paper 2 made me cry and curse myself in those 3 hours..

my gut feel says ki it will boil down to how well u attempted those 15 questions in each GS paper and averaging out in others..

@nikhilit20112751 yaar GS1 mein i did completed paper but confidence nhi hain kisi bhi question mein.. Mangroves, corals waale mein points chhoote honge, Society was trivial, American and french revolution and Gandhara Art mein wrote just 1 page in tabular form.

Baaki bhai commendable and respect that you read Vision from 2015-2018.. As i said in one of my comments, People do study alot..

@DKTbro, just look at marks of top 200 candidates 820ish is the base in Mains.. Factor in EWS this time and with another 10% gone, 110 around per paper this year would be base considering difficulty level.40% seatshi bachi bas General ke liye and competition is INSANE..

TS waala mentor mujhe bolta ki internization of intro-body-conclusion format is the reason first timers ace this exam.. at the time of every copy evaluation and discussion, this point was repeated 10 times, "Where is I-B-C in this question?".. Bc! iss baar paper mein aadha time toh ye hi khaa gya.. ek toh GS 2 mein questn samjh nhi aa rhe the aur upar se I-B-C ka pressure

I interpreted in terms of Pockets and Small India and accorded regional diversity last preference..

@K_9sahi baat bhai.. some answers seems tooo good to be true.. And i have started feeling that this "too good to be true" phenomenon does affect our marks negatively in exam.. Many people in their maiden attempt with half baked prep our clearing it with ease.. There might be 7/10 maiden acers who would have prepared for good 2-3 years before attempting but i "feel" rest 3/10 are really first timers in true sense.

@foxmulderYes absolutely true.. I mentioned somewhere that for me, since last 3 years completing paper and averaging out some decent relevant stuff in all 20 questions has been a challenge.

After last attempt I humbly accepted that I cant write all 20 Good, some 10 markers would have to be restricted to just 1 page. 100 words in 10 markers and appx. 200 words in 15 markers. Without sticking to this limit, i would never have completed my paper.

My frame of reference has been people who clear with full time job. They do clear it, not many in top 200 but yes definitely in 200-400 range(General). Personally reading their answer scripts, they just average out content, structure and relevance in all 20 questions and my this attempt revolved around it.

PS: But there are people who fill all the pages. Salute and respect for them.

@paranthapijjajust try to get good score among your optional peers. Don't worry about Normalisation. It's ur individual performance in particular optional the matters.

PS: Less number of students in particular optional always helps, Less competition among peers.

PS: Leave taking becomes an issue. And at times involves frustration, dejection andoutright discrimination.

1. kisi mein lack of answer writing practice.

2. kisi mein optional prepared nahi tha.

3. mere last attempt mein GS-2 ka 45 marks ka chhoota tha.

4. Ethics ki mystery aaj tak solve nhi ho paayi.. Test series mein ethics mein 120 bhi aaye but exam mein seedha choke slam baja.

5. GS-1 mein socha tha iss baar ki pre ke baad pehle ek mahine mein fatafat kar lunga.. padhne baitha toh laga yaar ye toh aasaan hain.. phir wahi bakchodi gs2 aur 3 ki chaaloo.. last 10 days mein GS-1..

6. Till date i m not confident w.rt. basic books like Laxmi, Ahir, NCERTs etc.

kul milaake baat ye hain ki i still don't know what's that optimum preparation level required to crack the exam. I am left wondering how do people top in maiden attempt jab yahan syllabus completion and revision still remains a challenge along with reading newspapers..May be I am dumb.. I have accepted my dumbness level over period of time..

Prelims mein chhutti milti nhi toh woh running mein do aur mains mein wahi last ke 45 days around..

Iss baar nhi clear hua Mains toh i will quit.. Can't beg more for leaves and it becomes tooo hectic at times taking toll of health.

Coming to your question: Yes and No !

You can leave questions and you also Cannot leave questions. If you write rock-solid(as per your interpretation) then leaving 1-2 questions won't bother you much. But in this Rat Race, completing all 20 questions has become a sort of norm. And being an aspirant I personally feel we must stick to certain norms because we must do everything what our competitors do plus little extra.

PS: If your other answers are high both on quality and quantity, enjoy the onset of winters.

PS: Socio Paper-2 waa tough man. And I couldn't exactly recall Commodity Fetishism and Srinivas' Coorg.
