Came across this website today.After reading comments felt obliged to reply once in life.
Reason most will not clear the exam is that people tend to make answers so complicated.Story or no story in essay(bullshit I wrote story in essay and got 145 in 2017 with no structure,no quotes),write what is asked in essay be it with story or no story.British imperial power is standard history question and people are filling it with world history-no reason.
Hearing stories of answer writing since past 1 year.I did'nt write a single answer but yes I made handwritten notes of optional and gs each worth 1500 pages(1500*2)=3000 and mugged them by heart.Nobody will talk about it but yes everyone talks of answer writing,I have been reading hindu since past 4 years and making notes out of it-nobody will talk about it but yes everyone will talk of useless mrunal,forum useless test series.And yes I finished all papers with IBC format with 12-13 good answers,and rest average answers(in optional wrote all good expect 2 ten markers which were average).Main kyun karun answer writing.I have been writing such papers with unknown questions and time limitation answers in my MBA at IIM for the past 2 years.
Hearing stories of mugging ethics terms.Wrote ethics from by heart in 2017 and scored 91 marks.
Pareshan kar rakha hai in topper stories,forum comments(although I read it only for a day),coaching answer writing classes etc.Study,understand,mug up,write answer in exam of what is asked.Period.Forum par bakwaas karne wale bacche har cheez ko itna complicate kyun karte hain.Bolte hain diagram banao,copy ka har page bharo aur paper bhi poora karo.Pagal ho kya?Paper poora karna aur copy ka har page bharna are inversely proportional.
People say paper accha hua.Tumhara accha kisi ka average ho sakta hai.
Same thing I encountered in college.Bacche khud padhte nahi hain,khud coachings ke notes pe depend rehte hain aur doosre ka motivation girate hain.
Now I understand why last year 2nd ranker was'nt very happy with his answers.Uske hisaab se acche hue honge,fir usne social media pe tum jaise baccho ke complications padhi hongi aur use laga hoga uske answer average hain.
Saw someone's comments about paper 1 GS socio questions on this forum.Bata rahe hain forum par aise examples jo saare paper mein yaad hi nahi aa sakte in those 8 minutes despite the fact maine pure IGNOU ke 476 chapters padhe,hath se notes banae,EPW ke ek saal ke edition padhe,roz socio ke examples paper se notes mein likhe aur puri socio 7 baar revise kari.aur agar tumne kuch answers itne acche likhe honge to tumhara paper complete nahi ho sakta.I wrote such awesome answers in 2017 but managed to complete only 15 questions on average and ended up scoring 100s in all gs papers.Gandgi faila rakhi hai aur dimaag kharab kar rakha hai.
@bevancomMet such gyaan pele wale students in IIM.Khud padhte nahi hain,girlfriend ke saath aish karte hain aur doosro ko demotivate karte hain.Had I not listened to their bakwaas in 2017,I would have cleared the exam then itself.
Bolte hain test series do prelims keliye.Yewohi bacche hain jo 80 mock test dete hain.I have'nt attempted a single mock in my life and still manged to clear pre both times.
These are the students who say practise answer writing as it will help you sit though those 6 hours.Main kyun likhon answers.I attempted mocks for my CAT for continuous 9 hours.
Jab exam dene ka decide kar liya hai to stamina kya hota hai.Aise likho answer jaise zindagi ka last day ho,apne aap stamina,shakti aa jayegi aur paper poora ho jayega with quality.
Har exam ko hauya banate hain,har exam ki kahani banti hai.Pehele iit ki kahani suni,fir cat ki,fir gmat ki aur ab upsc ki.Shuru ke teen exam to nikle gaye ab life mein 10 saal se in stories ne dimaag kharab kar rakha hai isliye life mein 1st time reply kiya.
Sorry if it sounds rude to someone but I vented out all the frustation of last 10 years,education system,coachings,social media since I had no outlet to do so since I am not there on fb,whatsapp or any such media till now in my life

Jo bhi log forum par itne acche examples bata rahe hain unhi ke selection mein problem hone wali hai.See answer copies of last year rank1,2; 2015 rank 1; sab ne jo pucha wo bataya.Koi complications nahi ki.
Saari coaching,answer writing kahaniyan hai paisa banane ke liye aur social media par likes ke liye.
Study,understand,make notes,mug up and write in exam............PERIOD..........

I was happy after attempting the papers.Attempted all in all papers.But after reading people's answers here I feel I won't even get 50 marks in each people.
Has anybody felt the same in earlier years and still managed to get through mains?(for those who wrote mains in previous years and then discussed answers post mains)

I am not in Delhi.I prepared from my hometown for the past 1 year with no coaching.
Now I don't know whether to study for interview or mains again(I started interview preparation post 10th as was confident of papers but after seeing answers here I think I might not even clear individual cutoffs of each).
Nobody to talk to about preparation.That's why came here.
Some help will be appreciated.

@pra7009055There is no correlation between what people write here and what in exam.Now suppose I see vision model answers and then post here my answers will be awesome.Majority of people tend to exaggerate their answers on forum.The answers in actual paper would be pretty less.I am telling this from experience.Even when I wrote my last mains I saw people posting awesome answers here,I got demotivated and reduced my expected marks.Later when results came my so called average answers got me better marks than so called toppers here.
So wait for the results.Many of the so called toppers here will not be in the list,and many of the so called unknown dark horses with so called average answers will be there.

A girl was advising people how to write awesome answers,draw diagrams,use colours etc.People started praising her,started calling her maam,and started asking for advice from her.
Later I realized she has'nt even given the exam.
For some praise on social media is like opium for masses.They are only here to downgradeothers.Sodon't get affected by what people are saying or writing here or on social media.
The best judge is urself.The feeling that u have after attempting the exam is the most legitimate.Agar wo feeling bol rahi hai paper accha hua hai to selection hoga ,logon ko kuch bhi bolne do

@Yug_ the secret here is how honest we r with ourselves.I have also seen such people but they r those who are'nt honest with themselves.I know people who keep explaining to themselves they have finished the course and only tell their good things to others and not their failures.
So yes u r right but I believe if one is honest with oneself then that feeling of legitimacy is right

Horror stories,horror stories and nothing more. I have neither seen coaching industry talk positive nor aspirants.Jab bhi idhar aao to negativity aur kuch nahi.
I am an average student.Went without any preparation in essay and managed to score135.Mybatch mate prepared with me and gave the exam with literally no essay prep.I know his level and thought he won't score more than 50.But he ended up scoring 120.If these horror stories are true how do people manage to clear the exam.I have seen average normal people clearing the exam in prep of 9 months.
Pregnant lady ka baccha tak ho jaata hai 9 mahine mein aur toppers se suna hai 3 saal 14 ghante padho.Jab nature tak 9 mahine mein ek nayi zindagi de deti hai to yeh exam kya cheez hai.
Optional mein 9 marks.Kya pagalpanti hai.Mein 2 mahine ki prep ke saath(which I did with full time PG with classes even on sunday,8 hours classes everyday,pre placement talks,surprise quizzes and presentations,surprise class participation) ke saath 250 number le aaya optional mein after leaving 120 marks paper blank.
I know that I am true.If If these stories are true then either I am a ghost or there is something wrong with this world.
Was'nt there on any social media for past 20 months and hence managed to keep my motivation high,prepare well with decent papers.But since the past 1 month social media and its negative stories.
Leaving social media forever and will be in peace and who knows if god helps might even secure a rank this time.
Anyone who wish to do well in the exam I would advice him/her to leave the forum.

I did'nt even know the syllabus before attempting the gs papers.Had just made notes from hindu for 3 years as hobby and mugged them up.

@Raja123Sabki alag alag hobby hoti hai.Had notes for 2017 attempt since may 2013( since the time of US fed reserve tapering and Raghuram rajan being appointed governor.Read newspaper during those times when I was in 2nd year of engineering and interest developed and in engineering started reading and making notes from paper for1-2 hour everyday,just as a hobby
@Raja123But looking at toppers, their strategies,coaching institutes directions I should have got 30s in each paper.Even in this attempt I read of answer writing,join this coaching,do essay writing(did'nt do essay writing this time also and filled all 48 pages with decent essays) etc.
I have'nt done anything-I just made optional handwritten notes worth 1507 pages and gs notes worth 1500 pages over 5 years.Mugged them up several times and reproduced in exam

@sat_009May be u right.Taking too much tension,focusing only on exams for my entire life with 0 friends,studying alone with no fellow aspirants has made me loose focus post mains as we were busy before mains and taken a form of depression..
Just to change the narrative to studies.
All those who have written mains earlier and have some idea about marking and all,how many marks are u people expecting in each gs paper,essay and optional?
Even those who have'nt written mains earlier are free to contribute..I have no idea about marking so I have estimated 3 for average answer out of 10,6/15 for average and 7-8/15 for best answers and 5/10 for best answers.These are minimum I have estimated.Might be wrong also.
Everyone is free to contribute to this discussion..

@sat_009coaching ke model answer mat dekho.upsc ko something different chahiye hotahai.In2017 I attempted on average 15 questions in each paper,saw coaching model answers and my answers were'nt even 10%of coaching answers.I expected 40s in each paper but to my surprise got more than 90 in each.
From this experience I realized not to believe in coaching model answers.if answers r original,things r different from others person is rewarded even if answers r average

So maybe u r right but I M telling from my experience of leaving things blank,not following model answers and only writing average or above average with nothing extraordinary

PS-other than essay and 15 markers,I have'nt filled all pages in any of the questions.
For 10 marks in majority I filled between 1.5-1.75 pages,in 20 markers in optional I filled between 3-3.5(4 pages were given).
I also believe there is no relation between filling pages and getting marks but yeh baat forum peh kuch logon ko pehle samajni chahiye as I saw many people arguing about filling pages even if it means writing irrelevant things
@Biryanimafia_1st of all let me tell u it was only for fun.Insiders r mostly lies aur jo insider wale hote hain wo inhi cheezon mein lage rehte hain padhte nahi hain.
As for filling 24 or 48 pages,yes I don't know how many pages upsc provides what is important is I managed to fill all with the best essays I can.
Baaki result aa jagega to pata chal jayega ki mujhe pages nahi pata hoge zjada marks milte hain ya tumhe saari upsc ki technilities pata hoke zyada.Result sab ko dharatal par la deta hai aur end mein Yeh matter karega maine zyada mehnet ki thi ya tumne na ki yeh ki number of pages kitne the copy mein.yeh pata ho ki 24 pages hain par likhne ko mall na ho to exam nahi nikalega.
Par agar mall hai likhne ko to it doesn't matter ki yeh pata ho ki kaun copy check karega kya cutoff hogi ya kitne pages hain matter nahi karega..
Baaki result bata dega yeh zyada impt.hai ki kitne pages the ya content important hai..

I always wonder how so many people remember their answers post 70 days and how so many people say they wrote same example after one says so.
I interacted with 2014 ranker 76 long back and he couldn't remember his answer even after 20 days.For intelligents this much hint is enough what I M trying to say.
Anyways I know people who wrote stories in 2018 and still managed to get in 130s.
Let's see who scores more I. E stories wale who r not on this forum or those who all wrote kalams and isro example.

I am also from socio.Did not do any test series neither previous year questions(neither for socio nor for GS).
Read 476 IGNOU chapters(both ba and ma),read blue haralambous book(fat one complete),read anthony giddens(fat one green-selected),nitin sangwan book(complete),tusharanu sharma notes(complete),bk nagala(selected),ar desai book(complete),yogendra singh(complete),social movements in india ghanshyam shah(complete),xaxa report(complete) and recent newspaper examples.Those books where complete is written were read line by line.Made handwritten notes from all of them worth 1507 pages and mugged them up and revised total 7 times.
Yeh sab karne ke baad na to test series ka time bacha tha na previous year questions ka.
Regarding paper i finished both of them with lots of thinkers and current examples.Yes paper 2 was unconventional but not difficult.
Baaki ho sakta hai I might be wrong and get very less marks or might be right and get one of the highest marks in India.

@STFollowed the strategy of tusharanu sharma,nitin sangwan and manish kumar who focused more on building the content and less on test series.
I still believe test series are a marketing gimmick(yes I have done mba in marketing and know inside out of coaching marketing fundas-my project was on how byju with a 97 percentile in cat was able to build a billion dollar empire thru marketing).

Wrote 1st answer on 21 september 9 am still managed to do all questions in all papers

@AllMightQuestion and answer based for each topic.Left some space at end of each answer to accommodate for things.
Picked up a topic and found out all the sources where its given. Suppose its in book 1 chapter 2,book7 chapter 9 and book 9 chapter 15.Read all 3 and underlined impt stuff in each.Suppose after book1,book3 has to be referred then would write refer to book 3 at end of paragraph of book1 and then come back to book1.Would then compile this in copy.

P.S- People do read more than this.Read tusharanu sharma on mrunal and u will realize.
He was from a good b school and so am I.The best B schools may not teach u anything but they do teach how to read very fast and comprehend even faster+ they also teach how to write or respond to questions which u have little idea about (this does help in completing paper without joining even a single test series.He also did not join any mains test series).

@vvvikas0078212I gauged it on the basis of number of questions I knew very well and came directly from my notes.
Yes it's risky but 1 thing I learned in my entire life is to listen to everyone but at the end of the day trust on oneself and ones own guts.
I have never done what others say I have always done what I feel is right.
I was told in jee prep to do this do that,I didn't do it and managed to score a decent rank.
Post that I was told to do this and that for mba,join coachings etc.,I didn't do managed to get 750 in gmat get admission in one of the best b school in the world but didn't join it.This despite the fact people telling me future exams r difficult and bird in hand is worth 2 in bush.
Post that people told me join coaching and test series for cat,I didnt join but managed to get a decent score.
Post that people told me to join mocks for interview,I didn't join and managed to clear all 9 calls which I had.
In the meantime gave ssc and bank exams as well and managed to get rank a good rank in ssc and got a post ias bank po in sbi .People told me to join them but did'nt.
Within 2 months in iim realized that corporate is not for me and decided to prepare for upsc with mba studies.Classmates who were from few of the best engineering colleges much better than mine and srccs and Hansrajs and had given upsc before but couldn't clear told me not to jump in this as it's unpredictable and clearing pre with b school studies and without mock tests is impossible.Didn't listen to them and prepared with b school and without a single mock test and managed to clear pre.
Post b school people told me not to study sociology the way I did and better join a coaching for test series for sociology and for gs for guidance and go to delhi.Did'nt listen and prepared from my home.
People here r not believing me.Maybe u will also not believe.
But I have always done what I felt is right and would do so again in the future as I have observed very closely(someone very close to heart and family) how not following one's heart and mind and listening to others could also lead to someone taking their life after plunging in chaos and uncertainty and deprivating their own abilities.
I don't know if I will clear the exam but I would again follow my heart and not what somebody else is saying..

@AllMightstarted on 25th July 2018,did most of them by 11 feburary 2019.during that time wasted 1 week in mourning over ews quota and seats for general category being reduced(I m from general category.)During this time mugged paper 1 twice.Post pre made remaining notes of paper 2,mugged up paper 2 and then revised both papers several times.

If we r sure in a subjective paper we r gods.If I wanted to show off I could make tall claims like I scored 310 and 290s in optional in previous attempts as done by some people here and when I asked their marksheet they vanished.
I was brave enough to post my marksheet.
As for downgrading other's achievements I only wanted to target people who still don't believe I did these many notes.they themselves don't do it and consider others to be the same.
I would still vouch for my hardwork and for each word I said in previous post but would still say I don't know if I had done bad or good enough to stand among the best in sociology.
Nobody knows how much they will score and I m 1 among them.
I intended to highlight the process.
And no I won't shift to pub ad after doing phd level studies in socio.
And yes if u wish to believe I m crazy then it's ok.Crazy people do something which others don't.

I still can't digest the fact why people here r finding it difficult to believe me.
When u do spend 17.5 lakh on studies and have already left several jobs which could have given roi in a single year a then u become crazy to clear the exam at all costs.
Just because 99 percentage of people haven't done anything this doesn't mean rest 1 percent would also not do so.
When somebody isn't part of coaching they have no idea what to study and what to read and thus they end up reading everything
I intended to only highlight the process and not claim that I would definitely get results I m expecting.I might get more than that or less than that but I am satisfied with the process and the amount of hard work I had put in.

I was in full favour of abrogation of article 370 and even for nrc for assam but cab isnt understandable and neither is nationwide nrc.
As for misguiding youth we r already misguided.I had the chance to study in the elite institutions of the country and had the chance to interact with even more.What is taught in the name of so called humanities optional subject is demeaning of our armed forces and only teaches the good deeds of few people who were there when ncert curriculum,ignou curriculum was designed.
I even had the chance to read whole of ignou course for socio and sometimes feel pity and sad of the way our freedom fighters other than gandhi r portrayed and the extreme negative light in which hindu religion is portrayed.
I had the chance to listen to officers sitting in MEA feel sad of thier extreme orientations.
I had the chance to read the subject "social transformation in india" in one of elite institutions of social science and felt sad of the way kashmir situation is shown.They always talk of pampora case and without proof profs point fingers at army but never told about what had happened before army went there(read girija tikoo gruesome death and rape).They point what is happening today but I know the horrific reality when I ask people like parents and grandparents who had to leave their home,business etc which they had built over years in middle of night.
So dear friends things r never fair in life.
I also feel sad of they way tina dabi is able to get thru pre while someone close to me could not as she was from general category.
I also feel being cheated when obc friends of mine with much better salaries than mine were able to get into better iits and iims than mine with 78 percentile while i could not at more than 99.
I feel cheated when previous goverments brought such a scheme where my sister could only get into lady hardinge medical college with better marks while someone from other caste with lesser marks managed aiims.
I feel cheated when a leader says minorities have first right over nations resources as someone in power needed votes from specific community.
I feel cheated when I paid 8 lakh tax last year while someone with a 35k stipend protests for a increase in fees from 10 rupees to 600.And this 8 lakh was because my parents worn torn clothes 20 years back so that they can save money on their childs educations since the day she is born.
So friends somethings are not fair and mistakes do happen in life whether being born in a specific group,or mistakes from people.
Mistakes might have happened in passage of these bills but government was given power by people of India to enact laws and it is within their right to do so just as it was within right of vp singh govt to bring quota as it was within democratic framework or virtual collapse of abdulla govt in 1990 as it was elected with democratic framework
Jabh pehle mistakes huyi to everybody was quite and we consider it as normal and instead consider what is happening today as mistake.Who knows what happened yesterday was a mistake and what is happening today is correct.
P.S-To comment a move as good or bad we must have knowledge from not only what hindu has been writing but from a wide wide wide range of sources extending over years books and authors.And I believe most of us(99.999999%) arent qualified to do so(including me) don't have it.
So yes some moves will be good for some and bad for otbers.Just as in past even bad moves got passed and many including family suffered so as this time shall also pass.

@bevancomgovt has made clear its not to target any community and only vs outsiders.
So its our and govts job to build confidence and trust among other communities.
As for insecurity its being spread by people with specific mindset and ideology like the ones who taught me things which I critized in my previous post as it benefits them politically.
@STconsidering previous papers,I found socio to be at pretty higher level esp. Paper 2.Paper 1 was not easy either. I believe if we have done well scaling will take care of the rest which I believe will happen.

@RavsRead the report once.Yes those 2 cases r from there but I still used arc very sparingly as felt in paper that most of the people read them and hence almost everyone would right similar recommendations.
Instead focused on more original recommendations from my side.If u wish to read them u can but for me I would say cost benefit of that report isn't that good and it also tends to make the answerssame.It's only my personal opinion.
@RavsI agree with u.papers were very unconventional.I was looking at 2018 papers on Sunday and all 3 gs papers I found close to 90-100 marks worth of current affairs in gs 1 2 and 3.But this year ca vanished.Hence I believe variation would be there and cutoff would be around 750..

I can't comment on my final results.But I can comment about my mains result.
Any pdf that doesn't has my roll number in it is fake.And hence this pdf is fake.
This isn't overconfidence,it's confidence.
On a serious note I know pdf is fake as I have cs background. Any person with a basic computer knowledge can decipher that pdf is fake.

Those believing this pdf is real I pity theircondition.It's very easy to fool such people and this is how rumours and subsequent riots spread.

@suniljannever understood the mad rush behind ias and ips.Have talked to more than 20 ias and ips in private and all of agreed that job is not as much impressive as media makes it out.
They also seemed to agree it's all the media hype and aspirants jump into prep without knowing their aspirations needs and true realities behind the job.
P.S for me neither ias nor ips figure in top 3 choices...

@MalcolmLet me give you several examples.
Several of my batchmates and myself(all of us are from IITs and IIMs) started preparation once we finished our MBA and some even worked for 1-2 years.All of us around 26-27 and some are even around 29-30.All of us have left jobs worth very good salaries and some of my friends who are more talented than me have left jobs which they had in us,uk,newzealand and australia.
None of them thought about become secretaries or joint secretaries and not about money as well.
All of them know the reality of job i.e political interference and poor postings and transfer and everybody knows the risk of exam after plunging into it and after spending 18-20 lakhs in P.G and then leaving good jobs.
But they still did so as despite all the political interference and all the bads of the job its still better than a corporate job,the respect one gets and its more satisfying than a corporate job despite its all shortcomings..Those who have been in a corporate job can relate with this better.
P.S- See examples of gaurav agarwal(above age 30),Ira singhal(mba from fms and left her job in cadbury),this year's topper etc.
In fact the older you are the more likely you are to perform better in the job as u r more mature.
Hope this clarifies and motivates you to work doubly hard..

Optional to main nahin padhne Wala kyunki isbar itna padha hai.Agar abhi bhi number nahin aate hain to I don't know what to study. Pura optional isi attempt mein chaat liya tha.

I have lot of plans for my life post upsc like doing phd in sociology,masters from harvard etc. so I will be happy with a decent rank and won't waste my entire life for this so called dream job i.e ias(which it is'nt).
Wasting almost 7-8 years for a single exam I believe is'nt worth IMO.
Baaki sab ki apni priority hoti hai life main.Kuch ko life ka 16% hissa isi exam mein bita dina hai aur kuch ko life mein aur bhi bahur kuch karna hai..
That's why I believe upsc has started making papers like mains 2019 where toppers and repeater fundas like answer writing,mock tests,doing current affairs won't work as upsc has also realized that people are giving exam again and again and wish to make a level playing field........

I still believe u need to put limit on the number of attempts else one gets wasting many years in the prime of her life.
And if u r never sure of clearing the exam u aren't doing it right.
That feeling only comes if one has gone beyond one's capabilities in prep phase.
And I still respect yo yo choti singh because of his devotion to a single cause in life.I would never have waited post 35 exams and 5 attempts personally..

I didn't know the syllabus or the number of questions in my 1st attempt and came to know them on the day of exam but still managed to score decent.

@pysh12950Many have cleared this exam but not making it as the sole aim of their life.They have managed it with job,marriage,studies etc. and many others will do it in future.If exam is not the sole aim of life the pressure on person reduces and she/he can think much clearly and this exam is as much about knowledge as about performing without pressure and keeping a clam mind..
But every person is different,u may do it the different way than im.SoI respect what u r also doing and u should respect what i m doing..

People have said,abused and did whatever they wanted to.If I would have been overconfident I would have hurled and said about my prep before the exams and not after I would have written mains.
I have always trusted my capabilities and because of this trust and confidence I have been successful in whatever exams I have written(I don't have ashirwad of mandal or of sc/st tag and neither of ews).
To those who r doubting my credentials I was the one who posted my marksheet 1st and even posted my cat,xat and iift marksheet when people asked me to.
I still stand by my words that I was'nt aware of syllabus,number of pages or number of questions in my 1st attempt and managed to score decent.
I trust myself,my hardwork and my capabilities and will forever do so irrespective of what people say here or anywhere as I have always done things the way I wanted to and not the way others said me to.
Will open this site and login to my account only after I clear the exam.That is confidence in the hard work I have put in not talking in open air..
And to those who keep saying this exam can't be cleared in 1 attempt there r people with positive outlook who have done it in the past and will do so in the future because unlike people here they believed they can clear it in 1st serious attempt.
Will come back here again only after I clear this exam.......JAI BAJRANG BALI......
And don't elevate those who clear the exam to gods.There are many other exams in the country equally or more tougher than upsc and many have cleared those and will also clear upsc.......

In 2017 I wrote very very bad essays-1st was on farming- I started with a story and filled the essay with data,and governement schemes without much actual content.There was no flow in essay and in one case wrote past dimension after present dimension.
2nd essay-I discussed only a single dimension(environmental) and could barely fill pages.
There was no quote in any of the essay or anything.
I managed 134 wherein that year rankers between 10-99 got marks around 143-144 etc.
Despite me writing such bad essays I got above average to average marks.

Since the time I have started believing in myself and listened to others less,life has been much easier and pretty good and with less hurdles..

In my first prelims test of UPSC at CL I got minus 6 marks I GS paper1 in 2014, but with hardwork im 2016 I got 153 marks in UPSC prelims GS1. ( not saying anything for accolades )

Yes you can get into an old iim even after a gap of 3-4 years.I m from IIM Kozhikode and had many friends there who came after preparing for a gap of 2-3 years.But for an old iim you will need a percentile above 99.5(I got into at 99.27 as I had no gap but all my friends who had gaps had percentile above 99.5).
Also met people from iim lucknow and indore(for indore u need very good acads in 10th ,12th and boards) and even iim C who had gap and then joined iims but getting into IIMA and B would be a challenge.
Post IIMs they got into decent jobs(not the topmost ones and neither the bottomost ones).
But before joining iim better look into your personality.Some people are just not made for corporate(I did my pgp from K,did a decent job as well but left it there was never a sense of fulfillment) and some are.
So best of luck.....May you clear UPSC CSE-2019 with flying colours..

@kochikaameInterned under dr.varun jeph about rcep at southern division in jnu bhawan between april 2017 to may 2017.Had the chance to know about IFS.
Its better than ias in the sense that there is almost nill political interference and better facilities in terms of office compared to ias.Mostly you will be doing desk job and field work compared to ias is pretty less(almost nill).If pm or fm is visiting the country in which u r posted ur work increases significantly otherwise its a chill job.Mostly the work is file and paper based and you get to spend a lot of free time(reason why many ifs officers are busy writing books).Your posting is not always in a foreign country(dr. jeph alternated between india for 2 years and south east asia).
But getting good postings and countries depends a lot on contacts(which is there is ias as well).
If you wish to take early retirement or post retirement you have awesome chances in think tanks or foreign organizations.
But if you want chaud in common society its not the job.People in India simply worship ias.If you tell your uncle you r an ifs u will be nudged off but if tell them u are pcs ranked officer or ias or ips you will become a star in relatives and also a lot of dowry if u wish.
Conclusion: If you want peace of mind and a chill job go for ifs.If you want swag and chaud among commoners and relatives and dowry etc. along with lot of tension in job fill ias..Period

But sp jain pi is not a fish market(they don't have gd),but mdi is a fish market in gd..
