SFG – How it works

              • Select Focus Group (SFG) is a small group of students who are selected by ForumIAS every year for coaching them to clear the UPSC Prelims Examination. Every single candidate selected and retained consistently in the group with Top ranks has cleared the Prelims examination in the past.
              • 100 Students will be selected for the Select Focus Group, through the SFG Entrance Test, who will be required to report at 7AM every day 6 days a week to write an hour-long test based on a pre-planned syllabus, followed by a discussion on the same.
              • Candidates who are unable to make it to the SFG will be maintained in a Reserve List, who can also write the tests.
              • Tests are conducted daily and results are provided within 8 hours of test with a Name and Rank list for candidates and parents to evaluate their daily performance.
              • All candidates writing the CSE 2021 are eligible to apply for the entrance test.

@LuckyKat As per the rules of SFG, students are advised to appear for the test from the portal only and once test time is complete, you can download the pdf.

Due to technical issue,Kindly check again your portal.

              Sorry for the inconvenience

@farejul Appreciate the rules. Thanks for the prompt response. Is there a specific reason for this? What is the envisaged role of giving out the QP 'after'the test anyway? If at all, it will only benefit if we are able to attempt the questions as per the real exam. I would not have raised this concern if we were preparing for CAT or GMAT or other computer-based tests.

Consider this flow of events: A student downloads and prints the QP. Attempts it on the paper and then marks the answers on the portal. The time taken in marking on portal is roughly equivalent to OMR.

Also, this raises another query - What would happen if I were to click submit on the test right after starting it? Would I be able to see the QP immediately? I understand this would throw me out of the rank list but are there any other repercussions of this? Thanks much!

Q46. Increased borrowing limit of 5% of GSDP was only for financial year 2020-21. And question asks about 'at present'. I have not read anywhere about continuance of the same for ongoing financial year (2021-2022).

Is it still 5% or back to earlier rate of 3%?
@sator You're right. they simply picked current affairs from May 2020, it is unlikely the real UPSC examiner would have such flickering answer key. Nevertheless, the last I remember this year, they announced it as 4% of GSDP plus 0.5% for critical projects (Announced in February 2021 I think). Would still recommend you do your diligence for exact number.

I don’t think it has been reverted back, maybe continuing the status quo due to the pandemic instead of sticking to a strict financial year limit.

@necromancer this clarified things for me. Thanks

              • Normal limit of net borrowings of state governments fixed at 4 per cent of GSDP in 2021-22, 3.5 per cent of GSDP in 2022-23 and 3 per cent of GSDP thereafter. Additional borrowing space of 0.5 per cent of GSDP during the four-year period of 2021-22 to 2024-25, conditional upon improvement in operational and financial performance of power distribution companies.

@farejul Sir even if question paper is provided in the beginning, students will attempt the paper in portal itself, It is just that we will have copy of question paper which can be used for underline purpose.

              Ranklist declared yet!?

@farejul  sir will there be any ranking system like earlier SFGs, if not, at least release probable cut off marks. It will help genuine candidates.

@farejul @forumiasacademy Thank you for this course. Really keeps us on our toes. Please please continue this course until prelims. 2 more rounds with more syllabus to cover each day (since we can revise faster the next time) so that a total of 3 readings are done. It is the best thing for an isolated online student to be consistent and focused. Kindly consider this request.

@AJBubbles True it help us to push beyond limits. Actually it address the root problem : the lack of accountability and discipline. Yes it should be continued till September end. Really thank you@forumiasacademy for such an amazing concept.

@LuckyKat Technically those downloading and attempting the exam on the physical question paper are not under scrutiny of ForumIAS. In the online portal, you cannot go to another window while writing the test, it automatically submits after 3 tries.
One can argue that cheating only hurts the candidate, and no one else. And honestly, there is no real advantage in cheating, as there is no promotion or demotion, as we've already paid the fees for the whole course.

Btw good job on catching 4%gsdp statement.
