@Porus Bro but many toppers had PSIR optional in top 200 ranks.
How? Did they balanced it with GS score (esp ethics) and also due to similar scores in other optionals.
(relative performance.)
Highest
Essay- 160 (anonymous) - Anything above 140 very good score
GS 1- 112 (#114)
GS 2- 121 (#6)
GS 3- 101 (#1) - Very conservative marking for all
GS 4- 162 (#6) - Very liberal marking for all
Optional Papers- Anything above 280- very good score. Extremely few got above 300 (Pub Ad, Anthro), that too in 300-310 range max. Certain optionals butchered this time (PSIR)
Interview- 206 (#5)
@Porus many people like Yashini maam,
Navneet mann maam etc have got good ranks. Seen interviews on Shubhra maam channel and gs score.
Lets see.
This year ethics is like GS 3 of 2017.
And I think people who got 100+ in all GS papers would have done an excellent job.
I know a person who got 120+ in GS 2 in 2017 this year in 80s in GS 1,2,3.
I Hope and wish you improve in all papers and get good marks in 2020.
Best wishes.
Learning for Myself:
Personally, I scored 117 in both papers (Total - 234). Was expecting better score than last mains (129+134=263), even though I wasn't able to complete my papers. So would have to focus a lot more on just consolidating on my optional (Proper note making) , writing practice to complete the papers and just hoping Leviathan is merciful next time :)
can you tell us what you think might have gone wrong in this attempt ? was it note-making,revision process or lack of it? or maybe over reliance on shubhra mams note?
will be highly helpful for us 1st attempters at mains.
@Hitman2021 yes, I'd forgotten to mention her. Please do update here if you get to know their marks. Thanks. Good luck to you too :)
Thanks. Will surely share their marks if I get them. (from blogs etc.)
Not seeing very high scores in psir this year as previous years even though it has highest number of selections.
My score has been 267 (125+142). Paper 1 was simple this year yet dont know why such low scores.
seems like a great score for this year.. how are you planning to change your approach... also how much were shubhra mams notes part of ur prep?
Thanks for the analysis@Porus . Hope this year is really your year.
Those who have written mains before - did you find Paper 2 harder last year than previous years? It’s either that or the examiners’ expectations must have increased, right? Seems like that’s where the most scope for improvement is - makes sense considering it’s the least organised part of the syllabus, sources-wise.
That is the push that was needed for me to start taking it more seriously.

Brother don't go with preconceived notions. In paper2 last year there was very limited space to quote scholars, but many people did it anyhow bcoz that's what we are always told to do. Similarly, attempting all questions is not a sacred rule. People score good even after leaving 1-2 ques(not more than that). Lastly, understanding is very important. Paper2 is very analytical and very different from p1. Mugging up could help in p1 but not p2. And yes, pyq is very imp from optional pov, more than any other paper.
@whatonly Its been definitely the area with highest potential for marks variation, historically. Also I’ve seen GS Scores students usually have the edge here (I maybe wrong) with scores as high as late 170s.
Makes sense! Especially given the fact that a significant number of students are likely following almost exactly the same source every year.
Do you know what GS Score does differently?
