was accidently binging on student responses after the UPSC exam (mainly GS1) due to stupid youtube recc. But i noticed most students felt the paper was easy or at best moderate and definitely easier than last year. Personally, I was blank after the exam as i thought it all depends on how my guesses went and definitely would not classify the paper as easy just because 5-10 questions were easy/repeated from last year. Just wondering how others felt immediately after the exam. I know it does not matter now anyways, but i have time to kill.

Those 'kids' that say paper was easy should also tell their roll numbers to the reporters, or submit their Admit Card. They should also fill a bond that if they fail in any stage, there one more attempt will be rescinded.

This scheme should happen for Upsc, pcs, Jee, Neet.

Such 'news kids' appear after every exam and say paper was easy. HeHe. My dad looks into the next day newspaper and say "beta tumko hi tough lagta hai". Idiot 'kids'.

@toooldtodieyoungPeople are confusing easiness with Lack of shock factor. Last year, paper was heavily based on Agriculture and there were random questions like Hathi ka gestation period. Thus, many candidates were shocked. This year, People were more or less mentally prepared for anything UPSC were to throw at them. Therefore, lack of shock factor is being confused with easiness of paper. But this year, UPSC, being UPSC took up the sports section, right to city, and many such questions out of blue. Also medieval questions like Arcot are still debatable to this day. Even elimination techniques did not work much this year as options were wierd. So, all in all, Paper was not shocking, but difficult to score.

See my best friend says that Upsc prelims is very easy and it is a cake walk. He has high IQ and has been topper of several Maths olympiads.

I told him ki bro science and social science are different things. Challenged him to take SSC cgl.

He failed in tier-1 of the exam despite being aan Ntse scholar and Kvpy scholar.

To kehna bahut aasan hai, Ghalib ek baar form toh bhar kar dekh.

@NeganUPSC framed the 2 very close options in the Qs to prompt the candidates to attempt... which led to more wrong... and last  2-3 years tricks/elimination strategy (like all, only, not, S&T all etc) -- led to more wrong... thatswhy ppl roaming around 85+ (rarely i have seen above 100) -- while in 2020... many were there >100 (me too)

@monisha27 State - A
Mitocondria - C
Virus - Bacteria and Fungi (Virus is not included)

I have not marked these answers in OMR. But most coaching have consensus over these answers.

Not debating .. but i sincerely think we are overthinking w.r.t the Virus question. NCERT mein diya hain ki Virus can't grow in synthetic medium toh i think UPSC will stick by it.

PS - I have marked D too. I desperately want u to be right too.

Yea true. Even I marked D but the answer as per experts is not D. Virus is not considered to be cultured in synthetic media.

@toooldtodieyoung bro! even I immediately after the exam found it to be easy. ask them now na.. immediately after exam, you are on a high and feel that what you have marked it correct. Not only that, people are very defensive also with their answers. To easy to hoga hi us samay

I think 2020 was easier compared to 2021 because 2021 me bohot factual cheeze aayi thi jiska ans ya toh pta hoga ya nhi hoga bt 2020 me elimination karna kafi easy tha bhale hi kuch na padha ho us q ke bare me. The best example would be woh Laureus sports award wala question. Usme pta hoke hi sahi ho sakta h. Same with chenab and sutlej. 2020 me cutoff itni zyada giri I think CSAT ki wajah se and kuch question remove hone ki wajah se. 2021 me factual questions hone ki wajah se giregi.

Hindsight bias, confirmation bias, overconfidence effect all into play while we decide on something especially prelims-related :P

@Negan I totally second you......my metric for judging the difficulty level of prelims has been the immediate feeling after the exam.....for e.g. in 2018....i felt the paper was tough (scored 108).....however, in 2019, i found it easier than 2018 (scored 124), in 2020, the immediate feeling was that of it being the toughest paper upsc has thrown and i was shell shocked by the paper as i had set c which had agri questions in the beginning.....(scores don't know but qualified for IFoS mains, though score would be lesser than 2019)....in 2021, the immediate feeling was that the paper was easy....and i would score good,...however when checked answer keys and re-analysed the paper i felt that this time upsc has ambushed us, it set up a trap wherein the techniques did not work as they worked in previous attempts, this time scoring in the range of 95 to 98...my lowest ever scores in prelims.

I have seen many videos on cutoff, going by their views cutoff is predicted to be around 80-83Q(107-110 marks). Paper is more difficult than last year plus CSAT was definitely on tougher side. Also 2020 cutoff is 110 marks(83Q). So above 80Q is a very hopeful scenario.
