Is it really knowledge that most people who keep writing mains after mains unsuccessfully lack? I don't believe that a fresher knows so much more than a veteran that the fresher gets an under 100 rank while the veteran can't get his name in the list. What are your views. On one hand you( veterans) are spending your time on content enrichment , reading research papers, books, magazines, on the other hand the other guy(fresher) is attending 2 coaching classes in a day and spending the rest on just revising that and writing answers, barely having any time left to go for content hunting and gaining the supposed deep knowledge, which most veteran seem to blame for their failure

I would not be surprised if the person in this video had been preparing for many years prior to her first attempt.
Rank 13 this year also mentioned in one of his videos, that although it is his first attempt, but he had been preparing for more than 2 years before that. Same was the case with the Dabi sisters, they had been preparing from their college itself.
I completely second with your last statement, I am not a veteran, but even I find it so difficult to scramble for value addition on the internet.. sometimes I wish there were 48 hours in a day.
Also, mains I believe has become more of a balancing act between knowledge and the way you present your knowledge in the paper..
The question that one should ask is that do people who clear mains in 3rd or 4th attempt, do it because they have more knowledge or do they do it because they understood how to play with the psyche of the examiner through presentations/sticking to demand of the que/ time management etc.?

Yes..i second this..We get the impression that people who clear it in first attempt have prepared lesser. I guess atleast 2 years of cumulative effort in prep is required to stand in the race.

I don't think that makes any difference. They can't have been preparing with same intensity during college life. Most people even after college take 3 -4 years of dedicated prep yet fail to get anywhere near their goal of becoming IAS. Usne college me agar 1 saal full dedication ke sath like giving 9-10 hours exclusively to cse kia hoga( which is impossible in college setting) still kul mila ke uske 1+2 = 3 saal hi diye hai. Uske opposite most people jo bolte hai ki college se preparation kar rha hoga topper liar hai, wo khud bhi toh 4 saal se upsc me lage hue hai and that too without distraction of college life and boisterous friends. So I don't see the point of college wala point. Personal opinion- it's just a lie we tell to amuse ourselves or kuch nhi.
Edit - now that I think of it I have also been preparing since college beacuse I read Bipan Chandra in 3rd year. Though it's a different matter I didn't remember much after 4 th year!
