Reading all these comments making me really happy...have been cut out from the social media from last two years just for the sake of UPSC...(to avoid distraction)

Missed all social gatherings, friend's marriages, broke up the relationship to avoid distraction...but at the end...it's just emptyness....

Regarding Virus and artificial media Qs

Actually virus dont have organelle structure to carry out its own metabolism, thats why outside its host virus is as good as dead. There is even a debate on whether a virus is live or dead, its generally called activated or deactivated.

The point is the virus that is grown outside the human body or animal body is itself derived from cells of live beings, eg cultured cells, embryonated hen's eggs ,the upsc question is asking artificial or synthetic media, the answer is dependent on interpretation of what constitutes synthetic media, if u believe cell line derived from egg cells is artificial media then the answer is virus do grow on artifical media, but thats not the case, artificial media includes chocolate agar, nutrient agar.

so whats the difference between cell line and agar media? cell line can be considered metabolically active cell while agar eg chocolate agar (which is made by heating blood agar) contains proteins which will be later metabolised by organisms like bacteria and fungi (because they can do it & virus cant )

This is what my understanding on this topic is, baki i dont know what really the answer is

PS : artificial media is a part of artificial environment and not just temp, o2 regulation of the growth of any microbe.

I was a firm believer that only reading 1 newspaper in my case IE will be enough. But whole year I knew The Hindu cover environment and biology topics more than IE.

But I choose to ignore it thinking the current affairs magazine will cover it.  I paid a heavy price. Please read The Hindu its available on many websites freely.

I know this rage is temporary and it’s an every year affair. Every year tens of thousands will feel disrespected because of this exam and the sheer unfairness of it and they will have no option but to move on. However, anyone who calls this paper easy or suggests that basics or “logic” could help you clear it, please come meet me - I just wanna talk.

All this speculation about UPSC wanting to end coachings is BS, just that. If they wanted to do so, they’d stick to books- normal traditional books that everyone whether from rural area or a metropolitan can purchase and read. They won’t be making a shit fest of this sort year after year. Sure 35-40 questions can be solved from basic sources. Assuming you make absolutely no mistake in these questions, you still have to get 10-15 questions right along with negative marking. And every year there are going to be thousands who fall on the wrong side of this gamble. I am one of them this year. I lost so many questions even in questions where I had eliminated 2 options. If it’s a game of probability then it needs special kind of badluck to have so many wrong hits. And yet I know that I am not alone. I know many people are facing exactly what I am with probably much more at stake than me.

At the end of the day, we chose this for ourselves. But we also were told that there are going to be atleast some rules, some order to this chaos.@LetsGetThisBread ‘s daily targets literally kept me going on my worst days and I think it’s more than just unfair if they don’t end up with the desired result. Anyone who tries to preach about the pattern and approach of the exam at this point- please just don’t. Just stop. Let us grieve in peace ffs.

Everyone else who feels lost and hopeless, there are no right combination of words that will make you feel any better. I have attached so much importance to this exam that I don’t even feel it when people tell me I am more than this exam. But a line from Kota Factory goes - “War mein haarne wale warriors hote hain, losers nahi” You all are warriors. Please take care.

You have me! There were many questions where I eliminated two options but I landed on the wrong side :/

Even i am facing the same problem every year..I don't know how to overcome with this.. totally disappointed

@GaneshGaitonde Totally agree with you bro. UPSC has become an INSENSITIVE and CRUEL organization which is making this exam a random lottery based exam. Having given Mains 2020 and spending around 4-5 years on this exam, I deeply feel that your hard work might not be fully respected by this commission. While looking at those 3-4 sports question, I felt like someone is throwing a cruel joke on aspirants who prepare for 3-4 years, undergo tortures of different kinds and make so many sacrifices for this exam.  In an exam where 1-2 marks decide your 1 year, don't these guys have sensible and conceptual questions to ask. Will knowing about Federer and Tiger Woods' awards make you a good administrator??

2017,2018,2019 & 2020 papers were also tough but I never questioned the logic behind asking those questions because those were still sensible questions. But this paper is just like a random lottery in so many ways. To all the aspirants, I'd like to say that stop worshipping UPSC and this exam. Just treat it like a normal PCS exam. Look at the way these guys treat the people who reach up to the interview stage and don't make it to the final list. Can't they absorb them in some other posts where at least those guys can have some financial security. Who treats such talented people like crap? Just because someone didn't make it to the final list, will you ask him to write this kind of Lottery based random Prelims again? There are many great jobs in this world where you'll find great satisfaction, happiness and will be rewarded duly for your hard work. Life is much Bigger than this random lottery based exam. So never attach your self-worth and confidence to this kind of exams.

Hey guys,

I was thinking maybe sometime we could do a forum people's zoom where we just hang out and chill for a while. I feel like the exam process feels very dehumanising and isolating, so it might do some good. Could make everyone feel a bit better to have a little bit of human connection and chitchat. I'm sure we can find a way to preserve anonymity :p

If anyone's interested we can take it up. Or if you think it's weird and creepy please ignore 😂

Lovely idea, especially for someone like me who's been preparing in isolation and is on the verge of a nervous breakdown after the prelims. I'm probably going to be a lurker though, due to the severe social anxiety I've been experiencing since last year.

@viveknj129165  I can totally relate. From now onward aspirants will spend their precious time reading useless sports section which is 99% gossip in the hope to find some gold. They have a whole economic survey to haunt us but they decided to enter uncharted water.

Next year might be bollywood. Bollywood was in news so much this year, might deserve a place in 2022. Expect atleast 3 questions, something from shahrukh's life because of what happened recently.

Read Delhi times daily and if possible make notes as well. You might forget stuff.

P.S. My newspaper wala have got this feeling bahut pehle se. Since last 2 months, he has been delivering some sort of filmy gupshap paper with TheHindu. I don't know the name as I didn't even see once, who was printing it but now surely would look.

All the best everyone for bollywood current affairs.

@Aurang_mirasudar 2014 i guess, ditto repeat, virus is not in official answer key

It's 2013. There the option was "Viruses can be cultured in any synthetic medium"

Here, it just asks if it can be cultured, which it can be. Viral cultures are available
