@morty last year except 1-2people all were expecting cutoff to be between 95-99.... This year most are saying it to be 88-92

@CHRIS12 this year too 15 marks variations possible can’t rely on coaching keys at least for me

I've heard last year too people were talking about how tough the prelims paper 1 was, and speculated cutoff to be 90 plus minus 2. But in the end, it was on a higher side (if we consider 1-2 qns were removed). So how true are these discussions and predictions by the institutes.

Also, are people really seeing a drop of 15-20 marks as compared to their last year's marks?

I am so confused what to believe and what not to. Are there people who are scoring really good marks and keeping silence? (I hope this isn't true :sweat_smile:)

Obviously things will be a bit clear once the result is out. But can someone with a little experience give his/her views on this?

Buddy, I am telling you confidently that 2021 paper was the toughest since 2014. I'm telling you this coz I wrote all pre exams since 2014 😑  Scored 118 in GS 1 in 2020 but hovering ~90 this time 😑 failed in csat in 2020, first time. Couldn't attempt as many questions in 2021 but still on safer side coz of improved accuracy. I can't say 2021 csat was tougher than 2020 but for sure it was not easier

Thanks for all your answers. I am just confused whether to join a test series right now or not. Even though result can be declared by the next week, many optional and other test series are starting early. I don't know how positive and/or realistic I should be about all this.

Am considering my following answers (in bracket) to some of the debatable qns I attempted, as right/wrong:

considered right - mitochondrial disease (both correct), british parliamentary model (both correct), magnetite particles (all of the above)

considered wrong - indus tributary (chenab), right to city (1 and 2), artificial culture (all three)

If you can shed some light on the prospects it wud be great. Rest is obviously in UPSC's hands.

@mortyDear Brother...
indus tributary (chenab), right to city (1 and 2), artificial culture (all three) -- Chances high that all are wrong

mitochondrial disease (both correct) -- Chances highthat it is wrong

british parliamentary model (both correct), magnetite particles (all of the above) -- Chances high are correct

But this is my View... may differ from UPSC keys..

Thanks

In 2018, paper was unconventional and tricky. People expected cutoff to be very low. Some faculty like ojha sir etc claimed cutoff would go below 90. But it turned out to be 98. Many people weren't coming forward to disclose their scores that year also.
But 2021 paper is more than unconventional. I feel cutoff would be on the lower side. But not sure how much lower. It may well be 87 also. It may be 95 also. One good thing is that the results will be out soon.

For your second point, i suppose both are True! Some ppl are scoring 15 to 20 marks lesser (as per this thread) and some are easily scoring 100+ (as per poll)

I concur with your view except for Indus and Mitochondria

question setter deliberately mentions artificial/synthetic both words... so all must be correct...only an opinion though

Guys mitochondria wale question me dimaag mat lagao.. uska  hai answer. Anthropology me ancestor trace krne ka accepted method mana jata hai ye... kisi far far exception k basis pe answer change nhi hoga.

@morty yes that's true but this year don't think it will cross 95. Not many students are crossing 100 this time

Clearing CSAT well above cutoff but in paper 1 getting 88 (Gen) considering my following answers (in bracket) to some of the debatable qns I attempted, as right/wrong:

Don't lose hope. Try doing things that you like & relates to mains. It's difficult to focus ik. I'm actually collecting some quotes for essays
