Which is the best pen for UPSC Mains?

Don't get the hype with V5 and V7. Tried both, found them to be okay. Trimax better, Linc Pentonic best.

Pentonic has both a ball and gel, if I’m not wrong?

Yep. I use the gel one, simply the best for me.

@dwightschrute I've heard about thin pens causing a lot of hand pain after a 3-hour exam. Have you written any with Pentonic Gel?


Wrote almost all college papers with it, didn't have any issues. College exam copies are thin, that's why I started using Pentonic in the first place.

Aren't Schneider, Uniball Air, Pilot G2 too expensive to use them regularly for tests? :3 

Checked the prices for Uniball and G2 after going through this thread, hard pass :P My broke ass ain't shelling out 200-300 rupees for a pen, pardon my French.

What's wrong with V5 except these two shortcomings?

1. Delicate nib - breaks often, specially for people with tight grip. 

2. Not waterproof. 


V5 being not waterproof is the biggest drawback of that pen for me. 

What if I spill water on the sheets by mistake? 

What if the invigilators spill water on the sheets by mistake? 

What if the paper checker spills water on the sheets by mistake? 

Can't risk years of preparation just because the pen wasn't waterproof. 

P. S: This is just a personal opinion. I'm usually quite optimistic , but this is TOO RISKY.. 

Had never considered this angle. Looks like I might need to look at some waterproof pens. Any suggestions?

Good friends of forum, after countless hours of YouTube pen reviews (that is a thing, I just learnt as well), I have found the hauser crystal gel. I just got it, so like all things new, the excitement of being owned by a person is motivating my pen to work really well. Let’s see how long this relationship lasts as well as how we weather the “middle period”. Will we be a success or simply a “middling” relationship? Shall keep you guys posted
