Which is the best pen for UPSC Mains?

In terms of comfort while writing for long periods, a non-interrupting ink, glide over the paper, water resistance etc.

@Neyawn possibly because it’s been 9+ years since I last used it, completely forgot about it’s existence 😅

I had almost narrowed down on pilot v5 as the best pen over, considering the nib size and the speed that it gives.

And then one fateful day, water spilled over my notes, and everything was gone.

NEVER USED PILOT PEN AGAIN. CAN'T RISK USING A NON-WATERPROOF PEN TO WRITE MAINS.

@Neyawn I’d say the original Liquiflo was much better than Butterfow (obvious bias because I like thicker writing pens)
In my younger days I’m pretty sure I went to get the Butterflow but accidentally got Liquiflo and just fell in love. Was my go to pen for ~7 years, now can’t find the original anywhere.

How come Pilot V5 works for everyone? It stops working after 1-2 days. Tried from different shops and online too.

Started using Trimax and pentonec gel pen, hoping it won't stop working.

Pilot G2 (easily available)

Add Achiever (can get in offline store)

tried uniball air once, writing speed was good but thickness is inconsistent

Uniball

  • Stronger nib than pilot(quite sensitive eh) and lasts longer
  • Waterproof
  • Consistent ink flow from start to end
  • Refillable version replaces nib too(like trimax refill), unlike Pilot Cartridge where whole pen is useless if your nib is destroyed.

People looking for cheap alternative to Uniball eye can check Uniball Refillable 215. It has same roller tech and nib used in eye and refill costs 25/-.

Uniball air is one of the best. But too expensive.

Exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Not for me. Pilot V5 failed me or may be I failed Pilot V5.
It's Hauser Sonic Gel since then. What a pen!

@sjerngal also, if you bulk order from uniball website, you can get 18/- per refill. :)

Any left handers recommendations? Honestly most gel pens and V5 are quite useless if you’re left handed. I used a V7 for the mains, but I really want a waterproof pen that writes with moderate thickness and gives decent handwriting (which is a steep ask as a left hander)

Trimax worked well for me. Specially to make the handwriting legible. Worth a shot!
