YouTube algorithms sometimes are so random. Just found this video lurking in my feed, and here I am peeling onions. Thought let me share this is here, shayad kisi ko nostalgia ke darshan ho jaaye.

Now when everything is locked up, watching some youngsters care free enjoying on a cricket match seems like a luxury of the bygone era. Was feeling bit low this evening, but this really cheerd me up.

So, where were you when this happened?

I have no memory of this day :D

I have no memory of this day :D

Haha, I thought it was just me. But considering I was probably in 7th-8th standard back then, I would have not been upto any good. :P

Would be really interested in your comments on this guys.
(Larger context- Indias global image: how the world sees india should define how india sees the world)

I believe it is only on account of cultural differences.

I like curry, I do like roaming around without t shirt while in farms back in village

This is not something that we should hide or feel ashamed. There are bigger things to worry when dealing with Japanesse, the foremost among them is not being punctual and I have personally felt humiliation many a times on this account, they often show watch as a gesture : )

representation ki baat toh civil service reforms , indianisation of administration, simon commission ki zamaane se chali aa rhi hai. if the presumption then was that only Indians can work for interest of indians, then why cant that principle be extended to women, obcs, muslims, sc/st etc The doors of private sector are open for meritorious candidates , state institutions cant be compared with ordinary private sector jobs. Because unlike private sector, State wields coercive power and performs the function of redistribution and for that to be fair, representation is important. State decisions have the potential to create life and death situation for the proverbial last man. Private sectors cant deprive anyone of food , and other welfare measures but state can.
People talk about concentration of wealth, progressive taxation, inequality , and somehow seem to justify 20% people being occupying>40% while OBCs who constitute 50% of population have only 22% strength in central services. AB kya chahte ho 20% ko 60..80% seats mil jaye
paradoxically , while reservation continues to be rebuked, bashed, and criticised, we see reservation only increasing and being extended to new sections like EWS. Ab toh log reservation for locals in private sector ki baat kr rhe

OBC reservation in jobs started in 1990s.Before that,OBCs competed with upper castes. In govt job interviews, upper castes were marked higher than OBCs on the basis of surname. This is the reason that the representation of 50% OBCs in group A services is only 15% and these 15% also is due to reservation after 1990s.The lower OBCs  are currently at the lowest status in society because OBC reservation benefits mainly castes like yadavs, kurmis, jats and OBC castes of southern states.Being rich and being poor is on the basis of govt policies. If the capital of India was kolkata(strategically the right place),the jats would be the migrants. The capital is in delhi and many delhiites earn crores on the basis of this fact only.

A question always comes to mind and today I would like to ask.

@NOLEisGOAT  and@AzadHindFauz, since you guys prepared for JEE as well, does the prior experience of preparing for a competitive exam helps in UPSC. If yes, to what extent?

Or, since you guys already had hustled so much for 1-2 years in isolation, does going back to a similar experience is harder due to mental fatigue?

Others who also prepared for any competitive exam earlier, please share your experiences as well. :)

I need some advice. I always wanted to know how do you guys mentally prepare for things beyond your control and not be anxious?

To give you an example, I found my bench in the essay paper this year to be very shaky. Being the 1st paper, I kinda went blank for 5-10 minutes thinking how am I going to write 9 papers on this! This definitely cost me some marks. Another example is when someone switched a noisy pedestal fan in prelims this year right behind me and despite my pleadings, didn't budge. 3-4 minutes lost there as well.

Long story short, how do I calm my mind in such situations? I've been a perfectionist all my life and any slight tweaking in the surroundings throws me off. I want to change this ASAP! Hope this made sense! :p

Any suggestions are welcomed.@SergioRamos @whatonly @Patootie @Villanelle @Sherkhan1428 @NOLEisGOAT and others.

A similar question was answered by many toppers in Ctwt. ( ques being  why  iitians clear?)  Having previous exp of being consistent in prep  for iitians helps, they can do it  again, toppers said. Also added being consistent NOW is the key.

CIVILSDAILY are openly claiming prelims Sureshot postponed and a notification eminent soon. They are also launching a new test series for the postponed period.

Is this the Vajiram moment of 2020??

Is this really true? Every other insider is saying that no meeting has been held in UPSC.

These two videos explain the issue pretty well. I also had a similar problem but slowly I have realised that perfectionism should not be the starting point, but the endpoint. If our aim is perfectionism from the beginning, we do not begin to work only and if we somehow do, we stop at our first difficulty. Therefore, our aim should be an improvement, not perfection. With the aim of improvement, we actually never stop our work as there is always a belief of better. This is not the case with perfection, as how can you improve something that is perfect. Also, perfectionism sometimes becomes the best buddy of procrastination as well. A slight change in timetable may make you waste the entire day as your minds trick you into thinking that how can I produce perfect work without adhering to the perfect timetable?

For example, I used to(and still do), start studying when an hour or half-hour began. God knows why, because it felt somehow perfect. So much so that if it would be 7:45 or 8:15, I would wait till 8:00 or 8:30 to begin work.

For me, I would be waiting for the perfect time to begin, but actually I was and am just a lazy fool. :)

So, where were you when this happened?

For someone like me who remembers a  lot of school/teenage days in terms of cricket matches or Bollywood songs/movies it is impossible to not have a very strong memory of this day.

I was in Kota. Having returned from home a day before after vacations I had gone to my friends' place.

During innings break we went for dinner to a mess named Caliber in vigyan nagar to redeem a special dinner coupon. As always the queue there was long and by the time we were served both the openers were gone and the fear of repeat of 2003 became real. OOMF got so upset that he hardly ate anything.

Then rushed back to a paratha shop near our PG only to find that it was so crowded that they had kept TV outside .

At the end  with the winning shot ,unlike many jubilation came to me with immense real pain as out of sheer excitement my idiot friend punched me extremely hard on the chest. Never forgave him for it.

What followed then was a frenzy of people on the  road with tricolòurs in their hand and immense sloganeering.

Overall a sweet memory for the rest of the life.

@SergioRamos I'm someone who prepared for JEE. For me personally, classes 11th and 12th were where I really learned to work hard. Till then I was easy-going in my studies. Joining a coaching institute changed that. Life became very hectic.
Initially in my college years I had mental fatigue so didn't want to prepare for anymore competitive exams. By the fourth year, fate brought me to UPSC prep.

Coming to your question, there has been multiple intangible benefits I gained from my previous experience

1) I learned, observing my fellow coaching students, that it wasn't the most brilliant (contrary to popular belief) that got into the IITs. It was the consistent students who worked hard from day 1.

2) Studying in a coaching institute had taught me the limits of coaching as well as how to best utilize whatever limited benefits are there. Accordingly I could squeeze out the best from my coaching institute even if it wasn't the best.

3) It prepared my family for the time to come. They knew fully well how to support me when the going got tough.

4) There is still a self confidence that I can do this. There were many times in class 11 and 12 when I wanted to give up. Even after all the breakdowns and failures, eventually I got through to a college I wanted. That gives me added hope that no matter how tough the situation is, things can turn out well.

All in all, my earlier prep has definitely helped me.

At the same time, these are not heavy advantages. My experience is that UPSC is an entirely different ballgame from JEE. The level of mental strength required here is unparalleled. Previous experience can give a boost but only a tiny boost.
It's like learning the ABCs in nursery before going off to kindergarten. Or it's like studying humanities before starting UPSC prep. Sure the initial few days you feel special for knowing something others don't but pretty soon all get at the same level.

TLDR - JEE prep definitely helped but it isn't an unassailable advantage.

1. I think you can stay calm in such situations by just being calmer and content in general. For me at least, there are no quick fixes around things like this.

2. You have to change your perspective about perfection. It’s not a good thing, most times. Striving for perfectionism will not lead you perfection, but it will surely make you feel inadequate.

3. Don’t plan ahead and try to control situations. Go with the flow. Incorporate this in your daily life. Don’t anticipate any bad situations. Try to be self aware of when you are being too rigid, and adopt a more flexible outlook. Even with regards to work, having a mindset of better done than perfect helps get more actual work done.

4. Know that things are 10x worse in our head than they are in real. Things falling out of order/not working out is usually an outcome of the mental exaggeration (our reaction to the situation), and not the situation itself.

5. I have no advice on how to approach things on the exam day, except for maybe one, which is reaching early on and familiarising yourself with place and taking your time settling in.

That’s all from my side. Hope this helps :)

@Buddhijeevi Parsad Looks like everyone is reminiscing about past.
I used to switch between Caliber and Punjabi. Did you drink Saras or Amul?

Bhai kya puch liye tum? Ekdum dil me ched kar diye. For me it was Saras most of the time.

U were also there at that time??
