This just goes to show how deeply ingrained casteism is that a caste name has transformed into an abuse. There is a high probability that she did not know it is a slur also. The very absence of knowledge about a word so casually used as a slur also points out the privilege of being unaware of any caste issues because, throughout her life, she has not faced one.

I totally agree with this notion of casteism and one or the kind of bigotry based on social lines deeply entrenched in our society. I've seen it with others firsthand and I've experienced it myself. So you know, we really need to accept that as a society, we need to evolve to a much greater extent where we really don't care about the person's background. And this is a reality worldwide in one form or the other. I had a friend from NE in college and people would say all kinds of nasty things to him. And we know what all! I don't want to repeat all of that. He would get fiercely agitated but gave it back to them in strong words and death stares. You got to stare the renegades in the eye sometimes just to course correct. And some of them actually do it bereft of the knowledge of that word being a slur. "Arey bhai, mazaak kia tha." Anyhow, he moved out for his LLM to an EU country and I asked him how does it feel to be there? He said something which hit me right in the head, "Here, no one cares where I come from?" That in itself was a reality check!
Slurs are not just limited to caste ,bihari -is again used in a derogatory way. You do something which is considered in some way not so appropriate and hygenic , people would loosely use this term.
You cry or gossip about someone - people sayladki hai kya?
you couldn't hear properly something - people saybehera hai kya?
You cannot speak something properly-gunga/totla hai kya?
A situation in our country where all kinds of derogatory slangs being used which is an identity for someone.
Sharing something I sent to a ma'am here on forum:
Few years ago,I was also pure idealistic advocating the same
ideas as you are advocating today.
Then after 2 years of IIT prep,when I landed a 10678 rank
without IIT while businessman where my father worked(who live in a 25 crore
home) land into IIT with 1.2 lakh rank,wo dard aap kabhi nahi samaj sakti ma’am.
Even in IIT someone was given everything free(no tution
fee,no hostel fee,free books,no limit on number of years to clear a back)while
me with half annual income than somebody had to struggle with basic
neccesities.
Ma’am aur sirs wo dard aap kabhi nahi samaj payenge.
I went into one of the older IIMs(4-6 rank) with 99.5
percentile while someone was allotted IIM A at 82 percentile(and we were in
same class in UG.I was a topper in class while he was a 6.3 pointer roaming
with friends and having beer).And this is not a single case.Our college had a
batch strength of close to 900 when that somebody passed and I can list 100
such someones.
Yeh dard aap kabhi nahi samajh sakti ma’am,kyunki aapne yeh
kabhi experience nahi kiya.
UPSC prep mein above mentioned someones are today in Indian
Railway Service,IRS,IRS(CC) while I failed to even get get interview call
despite having more marks than them.
I pray to god that nobody faces such a situation.But real
pain jab experience hoga jab aapke 960 marks honge(after 1.5 years of
slogging),final list mein aane ke liye aapko 961 marks chahiye honge par above
wale some of your friends will enter IAS at 930 marks.
Iss dard ka koi ilaaz nahi hai ma’am.
I look at you as my younger self when I was epitome of true
citizen(just like you are today).Over time we face reality and turn like this.
Anyways,I wish to go into future and talk to a version of
you 5 years down the line.I am sure your today will not be able to associate
with your future self because you would change so much after seeing ground
realities.
My UG and PG colleges have been fortunate to produce some of
the best officers in country.And they(my seniors) were epitomes of true
citizens 5 years ago.But today they think differently as they have faced
realities.
Many of my batchmates were in a similar boat as me and had
faced similar rejections.Most of them left abroad where they are contributing
handsomely to development of
Sweden,Norway,Newzealand,US,Singapore,UK,Ireland,South Africa.
But who can dare to write the real reason of brain drain?
Should I also have left for abroad? That is for god to decide.
Anyways these discussions won't change my current situation or the advantage someone has.And these someones are not the ones suffering.Those suffering never get any benefits.
And for those commenting that I am out of my mind or serious mental issues maybe.Because when few months back doctors told that I bleak chances to survive I prayed to god,maybe in next birth I m born in someone's family or in places like sweden.
But that is a discussion for sometime else.Happy to feel the heat and all the abuses coming the way,as I won't be replying further.

Garnering pity? Seriously? Dude... the point of their comment was literally that this is not a battle they're picking, and yet you choose to start asking some what-about-ist questions! Why even drag in Kiran Bedi of all things here... if you make a clear, lucid argument that's just about one point we can at least have a constructive discussion. It just seems like you're venting some collective frustration, and dumping it wholesale here, tagging random users who just happened to mention something that set off some train of thought for you.

I am a north Indian lived in NE for 3 years , No whatsoever racial slurs against me, people are very accommodating and respectful. I didn't knew their language , neither did they knew mine, but still they made efforts to make me part of their group and with the initial turbulent phase, I had some great friends and neighbours out there.
Have lived in Delhi too and how we somewhere knowingly and unknowingly we make racial slurs is known to everyone. "chinese' "chinky minky" , "china se aaya hai kya" , "tum toh sab janwaar khate hoge"all this is said to people of NE.
So please, ask someone having first hand experience before making any comment about someone or some community.

Dude... I am genuinely confused. What is your point exactly? Why are you suddenly out of nowhere talking about Kiran Bedi and polygamy and what not. For months now you've come here with some rage against "flowery things", but you've done nothing more than trash others for what they choose to talk about. If Forum is so hopeless then why even bother to comment? I would love to have a discussion, I'm sure you have the capacity for it, but we can't have that like this.
And what is your issue with passage form? Should I write in points instead? Draw charts? Sing a song instead? Or just delete my name from the comments like you keep doing?
@sstarrr Common i hav been in govt service for almost 2 yrs at Manipur,in schools used 2 meet Ne in games,i know and hav seen enough 2make tht cmmnt.My ex school mate was Nagaland cm,hav many peers still wrking at places u cant even imagine.plz dnt give childish xcuse.i quoted it 4 a reason.
Brother, even I have lived for 3+ years. I didn't give any childish excuse. I had valid reasons for that. And why do u think only u have seen the world and others all are child?
