@thesleepyhead for some reason those videos have actually heightened my anxiety. :P

Same! And productivity anyway has gone for a toss. :p

These institutions must also have some sort of model code of conduct that bhai jab tak UPSC kuch na bole, muh bandh rakho. Yahan tumne bola, aur wahan tumpe fine laga! 😂

Thank you! Would love some mindless laughing.

Laughing se yaad aaya, if anyone wants a good pure comedy movie, watch Jathiratnalu! I'm pretty sure it will translate well even if you don't know Telugu. Available on prime!

Ustad Hotel !

strongly recommended ! Will help you stay motivated in these grim times. An absolute gem.

His movie Charlie is also feel good movie , JUST WATCH IT, YOU WILL NOT REGRET !

I loved Charlie!! I found it really beautiful!

Another one of his films I really loved was Bangalore Days. Uff. Saw it in theatres. Worth every penny.

It is literally one of my favourite movies. Being a Malayali I really enjoyed all the jokes. Another movie on Amazon prime worth a watch is Joji. In fact Fahad Faasil (also in Bangalore days) has some great cinematic gems. If I may suggest another two movies in which he has acted is North 24 Kaadam (which gives quite a sensitive portrayal  of OCD if my memory serves correctly) and 22 Female Kottayam.

Can u recommend some malayalam thrillers and yeah premam remade into telugu, tamil.

+1

Watch 'Agent Sai Srinivas Athreya' for some detective-thriller. Naveen Polishetti first as lead. A definite watch for contemporary times, for how unidentified dead-bodies lead to a funeral-rites syndicate. Must watch for IPS aspirants.

After reading the comments on reservation & IIT/UPSC, this silent reader couldn't remain silent. This is going to be a bit long.

I am from general category. I have faced the rat race of JEE for 2 years (2013-15) and got into one of the top IITs. Let me be very honest here, after JEE Advanced, I was a bit depressed & had planned for a drop. One of my friend who was from reserved category was very happy even when he was getting 30 marks less than me (through various answer keys). Luckily that year cutoff was less and toughness was high so I made it and didn't need a drop year. Just think what if I had not made it? I might have been cursing reservation.@SunnyParashar bhai narrated his story and I just went back into those memories. I had inherent caste bias (typical eastern UP guy). But, in college I got an exposure where I could come out of these biases. I remember, I was scared of eating food on the same table as others (SCs/STs) when I had reached college initially. It was because I had been fed this since birth. But when I came out of college in 2019, I was amongst the people who had erased caste bias. I had multiple friends from reserved category and many discussions on this led to a 180 degree turn in my opinion.

I gave my first attempt in 2020. I had a chance to use EWS quota but I didn't because I thought it could help poors from general category. I cleared prelims and gave mains which I failed. Since the time I have failed, my flatmate (who is OBC) keeps telling me how EWS could have helped and I was acting oversmart by not using it. I was depressed & devastated after the results. I didn't come out of my room for 8 days after the results. I have got into habit of taking validation from people. I have been asking people "hey, did you give mains? Hey did you clear it? Hey how is it done? Can you help me realize my mistakes" (all to no avail). I see a guy from my library celebrating that he cleared. He even said to my friends that he cleared because he worked harder than I did. He never mentions that he is from SC category. I never told this to anyone in library although I knew this because we filled DAF together. I am bound to develop foul feelings. I might curse reservation even more if I come to know that I failed by 5-10 marks (and most of the UR students will act the same). This is the reality. BUT, I have friends from reserved castes who never let this enter in me. I get calls from one of my friend (he is from ST category & an IES officer now) who listens me and motivates me. Even after clearing IES, he called me the next day. He accepts that reservation helped him.

To everyone especially@SunnyParashar @NOLEisGOAT @whatonly , I respect what you feel. Most of the UR category students face it and this reservation angle comes out. Abhilash (TVF Aspirants) is nothing but us. Some of us have cleared the mains, most of us have not. Those who have failed are bound to curse reservation because it is natural. But, that's not the way. After being depressed (feeling like this is the end of the world for me), after being disappointed with myself, after developing self-doubt, I am again trying to lift myself up. Many of the silent readers would be feeling like this (irrespective of the no. of attempts). Let's stand again & work hard. We already knew the rules before this game started so this is no time to curse ourselves & this system. WE SHALL PUSH OURSELVES TO WHATEVER IT TAKES & WE SHALL MAKE IT.

P.S - I have mentioned the categories of people for better clarity as the ongoing debate was hell bent on this. Thanks for reading & apologies if I hurt anyone's sentiments in anyway.

For those telling to work harder and accept the reservation rule , bhai ye sab btane ki zaroorat nahi h. Tumhe kya lga yahan log iss liye reservation p comment kar rahe h ki upsc or govt ye sab padh le and rules change kar de😂.

This is just to express how reservation system has many flaws . And har jagah quota  nahi hona chahiye.yahan iss liye comment kar rahe hain so that pta chale ki dusri side bhi h.

We know the rules, and sab apne potential k according study bhi kar rahen hain.

but we believe future m change hona chahiye . After all slavery bhi legal thi na pehle. ( Not comparing slavery with reservation, just focusing on how rules nd laws can be unfair at times)

Also, no kidding. Joji is the best movie I’ve watched in a long long time.

For thrillers, maybe check out Memories or Forensic or the Drishyam series for more recent flicks. If you are looking for older movies, you could check out Yavanika or Oru CBI Diary Kurippu.

For sad movies, Mohanlal’s Thanmaathra and Mammooty’s Kaazhcha are amazing.

For feel good movies, maybe watch Classmates or Thirakatha or Kilukkam or Godfather or In Harihar Nagar series or Ramji Rao series or Yodha. So many off the top of my head.

These are all movies which I grew up watching. Sorry for rambling. :D

I see most of the people vehemently opposing reservation but accepting the class difference as given. Why we don't see such voices raising so vehemently for say free higher education or for increasing the number of seats in best colleges or free healthcare and all?  People are pointing certain reserved individual flaunting his achievement as unfair while accepting the person who entered in a decent foreign university or made it in start up through parent's money. I see the later kind of people in much more abundance. Does that make every higher class person a culprit? Or is it wrong or unethical for them using their parents money?

Is it because the reservation is as people call it systemic fault and could be 'improved' through one amendment and the idea of class is acceptable because it is somehow more near to merit.

Finally is the whole idea of meritocracy fair? What do you guys think?

Another movie I like, with certain reservations is Premam (which was subsequently remade in Tamil and Telugu if I’m not mistaken). I also have plenty of depressing Malayalam movie recommendations in case any one is interested.

Depressing as in? Sad ending depressing or made me cry depressing? I would love some made me cry depressing. Ustad hotel was one for the ages for sure. But some more please?

Depressing in the sense of truly depressing. Likeable characters doing morally questionable things depressing. Sadayam, kaliyatam (which is a retelling of Othello) are critically acclaimed and some of my favourites.

Can you suggest some happy movies too please? Likeable characters doing likeable things types.

Haha sure. Udayaanu thaaram (Udayan is the star- if we are going for rough translations), all of the Raamjirao Speaking movies and its sequels (which are some of the finest slapstick comedies directed by Priyadarshan) and have been adapted into Hindi as Hera-Pheri series. Monsoon Mangoes for its Wes Anderson-ish feel. And of course, the one and only Bangalore Days is literally one of my favourites
