CSE 2021: Plan / Strategy / Daily Routine

Hello 2021 aspirants. I thought it would be nice if we can share what we are doing and intend to do with one another here.

This could be a thread for discussing everything prep for 2021.

No one method fits all but to see the plans and progress made by fellow aspirants might help with the finer details of preparation and also keep one on track.

Today, I finished 3 issues of vision weekly focus while waiting for my vaccination. Bonus for a working day. I’m quite pumped. :D

I don’t know much about PSIR, but that has to be the most vague topic ever!

@Patootie I just didn’t expand on that. This what goes in here :P

CHANGING INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL ORDER:

(A) RISE OF SUPER POWERS; STRATEGIC AND IDEOLOGICAL BIPOLARITY, ARMS RACE AND COLD WAR; NUCLEAR THREAT

(B) NON-ALIGNED MOVEMENT: AIMS AND ACHIEVEMENTS.

(C) COLLAPSE OF THE SOVIET UNION; UNIPOLARITY AND AMERICAN HEGEMONY; RELEVANCE OF NON-ALIGNMENT IN THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD.

Contrary to my wishes, today turned out to be a very unproductive day. Since my sleep cycle isn't really in sync, the body forced me to sleep in the morning itself. Although the second half still ensured that the day didn't go entirely to waste.

Things done:

  • Modern Algebra Theory (40% complete)
  • Ethics Answer Writing

Targets:

  • Modern Algebra Theory (Try to finish half of ring theory)
  • Modern Algebra PYQs
  • Ethics Answer Writing

The good: Finally getting back in touch with writing decent answers.

The bad: My nemesis Modern Algebra is still as bad in my third reading as it was in my first! Going to delay Society VAM until I get a hold on it.

Things done:

  • Modern Algebra Theory (60%)
  • Ethics Answer Writing
  • Modern Algebra PYQs (few)

Targets

  • Finish Modern Algebra Theory
  • Modern Algebra PYQs (1/3)
  • Ethics Answer Writing
  • Newspaper

Realised that I'm going to forget the proofs irrespective of how well I do them now. Have shifted that to post prelims period now. Time to solve PYQs and get in the groove!

I was facing similar problem with the proofs in physics. Only difference is, more than half of the physics question paper is about derivations.

It's quite natural to forget proofs, especially when the syllabus is huge. It'll get better in subsequent revisions.

Remember, we used to struggle with few derivations in 9-10th class but by the time we were in 11-12th, they seemed to be pretty easy. Maybe you could even solve them in the middle of your sleep. We'll probably get to the same stage, just few revisions more. :)

Luckily we do not have as many derivations, and not all derivations are as cumbersome as in this particular chapter. But this was helpful really, I agree, only multiple revisions can help us internalise the proofs. Will keep going back to them and hopefully they'll be alright soon!

Thank you for your kind words :)

Hey there,

I used Shubhra Ranjan ma’am’s notes and Andrew Heywood’s Global Politics for Paper 2 Part A

and David Malone’s Does The Elephant Dance + Editorials + Google for Paper 2 Part B

About the confusion regarding sources. My personal suggestion would be to do one source well first, once the ‘base’ is done value addition and revision can go hand in hand. Usually, most of us use SR’s notes as base.

EDIT: For Paper 1 Part B, I’d say do SR’s notes or checkout OnlyIAS notes for this section.

Paper 2 is SR notes and Heywood+ globalisation of world politics (but I feel that either of the two suffice as well).

Paper 1 is a bit of a grey area for me as well. So I pray like hell that I can answer the sections A questions well and the rest i manage with SR notes

Did not keep targets today as I knew I would be required to go out at some point of time & I had to.

Things that got done:

  • Ancient Class (2.5 Hours)
  • Current Affairs Class Backlog (2 Hours)
  • Anki Review (40 Minutes)
  • Indian Express (45 Minutes)

Most of the work was done before 11:00 AM. So, that is actually impressive. Three more days of this thing & then all time for UPSC. There won't be any personal obligations for years to come. :D

At what time do you wake up bhai?
