CSE 2021: Plan / Strategy / Daily Routine

Hello 2021 aspirants. I thought it would be nice if we can share what we are doing and intend to do with one another here.

This could be a thread for discussing everything prep for 2021.

No one method fits all but to see the plans and progress made by fellow aspirants might help with the finer details of preparation and also keep one on track.

1. This is my 1st attempt, my mains preparation is incomplete should I focus on writing tests or reading leftover topics and revising?

 1. Can you please Elaborate on "Brainstorming" ?

Thank you so much!

So, you are given a question over effect of SHG on society

Brainstorming would entail you thinking on the lines of what is the effect of SHGs on women, men, rural economy and society, credit systems, informal lending, saving habits, reproductive rights etc.

This is essentially a generation of points through using existing linkages in mind.

@AJ_   Hi, I've physics optional but juggling with GS and optional remains pretty much the same wrt to maths and physics. How did you manage optional along with GS in those 2 months? I've confidence in GS, such that I just need to revise and write the mocks for majority of the GS. While my optional scenario is completely opposite, probably due to the fact that I need to cover the syllabus once to get some confidence in that.

In a similar situation.@AJ_Please let us know the feeling you had during the preparation. Were you confident right from the beginning or did it develop till the end, if at all? (With regard to both GS and optional)

@AJ_  @Arrokoth  I have noticed that if I have good content I can write a pretty good answer with relevant data and facts but in questions where my content is low I write really bad answers,  I feel like I don't have the art of writing general answers. Can you please tell how should I approach such questions.

You approach such questions with just enough time to get you the bare minimum marks. If you know only one page worth, write that one page only. No more.

If your content is less and not absent - try to write down more by thinking of the implications of what you already know.

For example - you know TFR is 2.1 and you know women education is a factor in reducing it. Make linkages in your head that education = lower TFR= higher spending per child = better HRD (the italicized part is your inference)

This makes an average answer atleast have some gravitas.

@Arrokoth @AJ_ - Did you feel content with your preparation right before your Mains? Also did you feel content with your answers right after mains?

Thanks alot for doing this !

For 2019 attempt, no (for both prep and answers) - got 387 in GS

For 2020 attempt, mostly yes (yes for prep, a bit dissatisfied in answers {messed up 1 Q each in GS 1 and 3}) - got 412 in GS

In my opinion, the second. But that doesn't mean you don't write at all. Write answers for topics that you keep completing. But it is secondary to topic completion

Q1: I revised my notes ~ 2 layers (1 layer for some topics). These are mostly just the important IMS questions, either from their notes or test series. After that focused on practicing more and more:

- Did IMS 2020 TS in Practice Mode (only 2 tests in TEST MODE)

- Did IMS 2019 + 2018 TS in Practice Mode.

- Did Shankar 2020 TS + SuccessClap TS for Practice.

- Did PYQ 2011 to 2020 in Practice Mode

- Any other Question Bank/Source

Revised the notes made on the basis of above.

Also revised micro notes (which are formulas + some tricks). See Kanishak Sir's Micro Notes for reference.

Q2: If you haven't done either before. I think do the PYQs from 2011 to 2020. Then move to IMS test series. But if you have done till 2011, then go for Test Series instead of going beyond 2011. This is keeping in mind the paucity of time.

@AJ_

I think I am going really slowly in Maths. I start with PYQs till 2008 (takes 2 days), then I revise the IMS notes- important theorems and a different variety of questions. This also takes a lot of time and going by this pace it would make it difficult to finish the syllabus in time for mains.

How did you use to revise the topic from notes? Did you just do the formula sheet and the extremely important portions only or did you also refer back to notes in their entirety trying every kind of question? I feel every kind of question can be found in the tests too. So they can be used for this purpose. But then we have the choice of choosing 5/8 questions. So there also we tend to skip tougher portions.

So very confused about the maths approach right now. Would be very helpful if you can shed some light on it.

Also, a biggggg thankssssss and congratsss to@AJ_and@Arrokoth for doing this AMA!!

All the best for the career ahead!

Good morning lovely peeps! Targets for 2.11.21 are:

Copy writing

Editorial- IE+ Hindu

Backlog

Daily C/A

Polity- (3/4)

AWP

PSIR- revise 2 A (1/3)

PSIR- CC

Trying to reduce the number of things to do in one day so that I’m not trying to bite of more than I can chew. Happy crushing your goals folks!

Logging off for the day. Didn’t manage to complete all my targets even though I reduced some but I’m just too tired to even think straight. I think I’ll have to re-evaluate my approach and see what changes i could be making. Good night folks.

Targets for 2/11/21

  • Anthro paper 2 -caste system and topic 5.3
  • Ca class.. Atleast 2
  • Spend two hour minimum to solve pyqs

Finished all these targets, but just like each day... Totally not satisfied with my performance... The pace is wayyyyy to slow... Even 100 hours a day would be too little....

Clearing mains seem a far fetched idea at the moment..

Need some advice regarding newspaper reading. Totally missing out reading them as mains prep looks huge in itself. And with the backlogs due to prelims has created inertia to read them. What u people suggest, reading 2-3 newspapers daily to clear backlogs or skipping the backlogs and reading new ones only?

Hey, after prelims debacle, I have prelims stuff going on in mind@AJ_ @Arrokoth

1. What extra needs to be done according to you, apart from what all of us do, that leads to a safe score in prelims? ( by what all of us do I meant - Lakshmikant + spectrum + Old ncert(ancient + medieval) + Mrunal + eco survey + NCERT for geo) - etc - what worked for you for the last 2 times.

2. Average mocks that should be given? This time around I gave very less mocks.

3. Importance of SFG ( I haven't been their student in the past) - If you had joined?

4. Content enrichment for philosophical essays? I feel I can't write philosophical essays so should I focus on writing philosophical essays, or I should focus more on my strengths which are GS + other things, I feel kitne bhi efforts daal lo, I can't write good philosophical essays!

Enjoy guys! All the very best for future :)

To do 2/11

        - Quantum 3/4

        - Security 1/1

- Quantum more or less done. I'm afraid it might stretch on 5th day as well. It was scheduled for 4 days as originally planned though.

- Security would be finished before I hard land on my bed.

To do 3/11

      - Quantum 4/4

      - Revision and value add of DM, sci tech, security

Chalo, at least GS is a bit on track to write the test on 4th. Shit scared about optional though. What if I don't recall such huge ass syllabus in exam and end up scoring even below 200 🐦
