iss baar GS paper me triple digit score kafi kam logo ke milenge. Kaafi logo ne bola ki papers kaafi aasan the, but after analysis over 10 days, cut off market has started sliding.

@Panchayat I felt that except for Essay, GS3 and Optional Paper 1, all other papers were difficult compared to 2021 Mains. Many 15 markers were lengthy with some questions very random and factual thus requiring more time to recall and write in exam conditions.

i think essay was easier this time, gs1 tougher, gs2 similar, gs3 very much easier, gs4 tougher and lenghtier, qualifying language papers easier, optional papers more or less similar. overall i think same level as 2021 broadly. but since vacancies increase by 299 that should pull back the cutoffs.

@Capedcrusader1 that is correct... but in the exam hall, i thought listing options before the person 1st, then writing merits and demerits would make checker look back and forth and turn pages... so i thought i should evaluate each option there only...your approach is better now i think.

i took tests in lukman. there he had changed my complete approach. he was of the opinion that first you list all options available because that way examiner knows ki we know the thing and he immediately sees the options. then draw a table and do merit demerit thing. good thing is upsc also asks that way. initially my approach was to list each option and do merit demerit there itself but thats not how upsc wants it. but the issue again is that i dont think all parts carry equal weightage. listing 4 options having 4 marks and evaluating all having 4 marks doesnt seem very judicious allocation of marks

This Lukman approach sounds interesting. Could you please share a sample or something? Thanks!

Mention the significance of straits and isthmus in international trade.
1) Definition of straits and isthmus with relevant diagram.
2) International trade is a very wide topic, You can explain multiple dimensions of it.
3) Historical context, Opening of suez canal reduced the shipping time and costs in comparison to the cape of good hope. Played a crucial role in the colonial projects.
4) Economic context, Can discuss about the importance of Malacca (For china) and Hormuz (For oil trade).
5) Geopolitical context, Can explain about Suez canal crisis, the fight for control of Malacca in the Indian ocean.
6) Security context, Piracy and Bab el Mandeb.
7) One can also discuss about the newer shipping routes that'll open up due to the melting of the arctic by global warming.

Troposphere is a very significant atmospheric layer that determines weather processed. How?

1) Define Troposphere, can add a diagram of atmosphere indicating where the troposphere is located.

2) Define weather and mention it's components (temperature, pressure, precipitation etc)

3) Explain how clouds affect weather, different clouds and their impact on temperature or pressure or precipitation. Example, Long wave absorption by Cirrus, Reflection of short wave by Cumulus, Rainfall and it's effects on temperature/pressure due to Nimbus clouds.

4) Explain how cyclonic and anti-cyclonic distribution affects temperature/pressure.

5) Explain how local winds affect temperature/pressure.

6) Explain temperature inversion.

7) Explain the role of Jet streams in Indian weather, Monsoon and cyclones in Bay of Bengal.

This answer is just never ending lol, a few points from the above would do justice. There's enough content in our Ncerts to deal with this question.

Have you written mains 2022 this year? English kharab hai bhai ji samajh lena...thoda...

Ji sir, jo main exam mei soch kar likh paaya wahi upar share kiya hu.

I could be wrong

But my assumption that it's not world history Qn rather it's more oriented towards Post independence or Modern India is based on the following factors

1) Firstly I have History as my Optional subject ,so writing question on French, German or Italian unification is a default choice if there's any mention of word "Nationalism" which was not mentioned in this Qn

2) Secondly in the question ,the word "states" 'S' was not in capital which is pre-requisite if we're talking about Nation State like France , Germany etc

3) Thirdly the word "continuous ongoing process" is used in question to refer to the events that's been still going on to the events of statehood demands in India, in the context of world there's little to no reorganization going on ,only thing that was in vogue atleast till 90s was decolonisation that's a different aspect altogether

4) Lastly "administrative Reorganisation" is used more likely for Internal classification inside a country ,so it clearly indicates it is asking about provincial reorganization within a country and UPSC unlikely to ask about internal classification of any other country except India

Hindi is not my mother tongue ,so I didn't check the Hindi translation ,if that brings more clarity ,someone pls either add to or refute my assumption

I just hope you are correct. since history is your optional, that lends greater credibility to your arguments. i also attempted it from indian history perspective only.

on your Hindi translation point, there is a term used ->"pradesh" and few sources like collin dictionary define it as "a state, esp a state in the Union of India" which also gives a ray of hope
