Hello everyone! How was mains this time? I remember having discussions on Quest portal after 2019 Mains. Activity here this year is pretty low, have people moved to other platforms?

Anyways, I found GS 1 toughest out of all papers. GS 2 was good though I think my Law Optional background helped me in several questions (the same would be the case for Geo Optional students in GS-1, so i guess such advantages get evened out). GS-3 was more straightforward than previous years and I hope checking is in consonance with the level of questions.

For GS 4, I wonder if commission considers students as stakeholders while setting such a paper. While giving lengthy case studies may be justified, if you give five subparts (no creativity whatsoever from Commission in the way they set the paper) to each case study, all the gyaan about creativity/innovation/making answer distinct goes out of the window and one is just concerned about completing the paper.

My personal opinion. What do you guys think?

I won’t comment on gs4 but agree with you on 123

1 was toughest

and across the papers some of the questions had little to write- a trend seen last year too

@Panchayat Geography questions were tricky to say the least-
1.Primary rock -many included sedimentary and metamorphic too
2.Colour coded warning of cyclones
3.Deccan Trap resource potential
In this many wrote about examples of Deccan Plateau whereas Deccan Trap is not same as Deccan Plateau.
Don't know what would  examiner feel after back to back 3 questions being poorly answered with incorrect information.

@mounikamouni24_h944 i was able to attempt all...but one 10 marker i wrote wrong ( that revolution in permanence) and another 10 marker in paper 2 (public diplomacy one) i just wrote few lines...rest it was good i think

@masteroptimist i also wrote iron law of oligarchy (the elitist theory and shit) , economic bases (Marxist view on power), unconventional power by Foucault and and Arendt etc ...some other bases i can not remember.... Shubhra Ranjan mam on youtube was saying the same thing so i think we did not need to write that French concept you are mentioning or may be mam was wrong..idk

@masteroptimist I wrote about power as structures as given by hobbes marx
Power as agenda setting as given by marx criticism of capitalism
Power as thought control process as given by gramsci
Power as knowledge as by foucault
Power as empowerment  as by harendnt etc....
What is the ans for revolution in permanance....I interpreted it like bringing revolution in permanent dom8nation established by capitalists...so I wrote about gramsci counter revolution

Second  attempt ,Second Mains

Last time ,my intention was to complete the papers without any delay and in that process I compromised quality but finished around 10 min prior to schedule

With marks in 690s , optional being my weak part of preparation ,I tried focussing on improving scores

Coming to 2022 mains ,I felt essays questions were not cranky vis-a-vis 2021 ,so that's some solace

Gs1 was quite analytic and diagram heavy geography questions ,so took time initially  which in turn affected globalisation, secularism Qns at the end so had to rush through

Gs2 & GS3 , I did work on some quality metrics this time , both papers were fine as far as weird questionnaire goes , hopefully I have done some justice

GS4 , meant to demolish physical and mental resolve , could only write decent answers in first 3 case studies, rest I had to rush through , I couldn't even follow the sub division pattern in last two cases, now fearing that this could nullify even the basics stuff I have wrote for those two cases

Optional (History) , relatively easier than last year but it will depend on the evaluation metrics and my presentation appeal

In nutshell, neither comfortable nor disastrous

Now back to routine life after an adventurous week of exam

As usual , a good learning experience

Good luck fellow aspirants

@rockhard I think  in optional subject unlike gs they might ask specific technical q. from that angle i think this popular 5 bases of power concept seems relavant. i also  watched Mam's video but it was not convincing but I'm not sure
you were saying you got permanence q wrong. what you wrote and how u sure what u wrote was wrong?

@mounikamouni24_h944 i wrote about mao's concept of permanent revolution. but I'm not sure whether it's same as revolution in  permanence.on internet this term is being related to Marx and also Leo trotsky. a complicated question i must say

@paranthapijja every year discussions normally pick up late.i remember the 2020 mains we didnt have anything till 1 month and then suddenly till result came in 23 march everone was discussing on all questions.

Gs1 yeah a bit tricky specially for someone who doesnt read geo deccan trap, troposphere was bit tricky rest was good

Gs2 was ok but seems specific demand was not met in vice president, french president, disabilities couldnt remember 2016 changes so wrote generic stuff

Gs3 wrote generic stuff in photochemical as forgot chemicals name on time. Vague stuff incellulose n some way finished vaccine question in last 4 mins with just diag

Gs4 again was difficult to complete left short notes wala question half. Wrote case studies first so was with less time with 13 question but again same happened in 2020 ethics.

Few observations on last year's results given the spare time..

Last year out of 685 shortlisted candidates I see 1st General candidate qualifying with Rank 316 and no one from general category thereafter till 685th rank.

So for general candidates task is not of qualifying mains but qualifying it with cutoff + 30-40 marks and thereafter scoring in interview in 170s plus range to get anything if at all.

Some releif could be assumed this year given extra seats but cutoff + ~80 marks for getting preferred service and cutoff + ~40 marks is the level of mains prepration required for a general candidate.

@paranthapijja I had a similar experience with my GS papers. I have law optional as well. What has your experience with the marking in Law Optional so far? I mean if one has written (mostly) good answers with some average answers, how much can one expect?

@masteroptimist Bro that post of mine was just a starter i.e icebreaker...Iske pahle koi cut offs ka discussion bhi nhi kar raha tha...I have apologised for the same accepting that data is purely hypothetical.

Was everyone able to decipher the donor agencies question of GS2?

@JoMarch2021 my experience may be dated as I last appeared in 2019. 2017 and 2018 were golden years for law optional (in general optionals were high scoring in those two years). The horror show was in 2016 where even NLU gold medallists were reduced to double digit marks in law paper 1. Just pray it is marked like 2018 and not 2016/19.
