[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

Can anyone please help me out ??

Due to lockdown and closed university I cannot get my original degree of BA.

Can I apply mains with my marksheet  of all three years or is would be necessary to produce original degree .

And what does provisional certificate means ??

@RonWeasley Don't beat yourself up if you cannot get those truly out of the blue questions right. Concentrate only on spectrum+ncert for now. Trying to recollect instead of simply rereading might help you remember things better. For example, dont just read a line which says Ashokan inscriptions were written in so and so scripts. Instead stop midway and try to recollect the names of those scripts. Do one test or two per day till the exam to develop the skill of eliminating options.

Thanks!

@Esha2020 @RonWeasley make an excel sheet with number of questions attempted, questions that you got right and those you got wrong. For me my correct answer % was mostly constant across tests. So, if you attempt more there is a good chance that you might clear cut off. You should also be extremely thorough with question papers from 2013 to 2019.  Keep revising the basic books.

I am good in Sci&Tech and Geo questions and very poor in History.

Every year there are numerous questions from History section and IMO that's where I lose the battle. When I pay more time to history, other subjects suffer and when get back to other subjects, I end up forgetting History anyway.

How to come out of this rut?

@RonWeasley

i am not good in history either

I found the repeted/imp topic of history like INM,peasant tribal movement, newspaper.GG contributions,Gandhi, dada bhai naroji, all institutions etc.......i do  revise it before giving any test

you need to be very thorough with above topics, make charts and mnemonics(u can refer la excellence revision material for this ) do whatever you are ok with

right now i am giving 3-4 days for every subject and subsequently give sectional vision test after that will move to FLT

IMO important part is not giving the test how you analyze the ans,how to make best use of ans keys that is important

for any wrong ans,I do not read it from the solutions, instead i read it directly from the book this helps in revision also helps in better retention

Friends i need a personal advice. I graduated in 2018(civil engineering), left an average campus placement to pursue CSE (family well placed financially). Gave first attempt in 2018, didn't qualify  prelims.Prepared at home(Delhite)Then failed to qualify for interview in 2019(couldn't even finish gs 1,2,3 papers)

Now this will be my third attempt, and I am not quite sure whether i have made enough improvements since mains result was declared (Jan 2019), I find myself getting ahead of myself, thinking even if I clear prelims, I'll screw up in mains. Joined MGP D and realised I'm struggling with basics (content is decent but answer writing-structure, and most importantly, handwriting- my lab in-charge once remarked that my handwriting is worse than his signature😂).

I'm not ready to give up on CSE just yet, I know this is what I want to do. Was sure if this even before I started college.

So how to keep myself going, and should I maybe look for a job to get out of this monotone lifestyle?

Do not go gentle into that good night, old age should burn and rage at close of day

Good night, hope I find some answers tomorrow (not really looking for solace)

Most people say my content is fine but structure is the problem. The truth is very often the opposite. Ask yourself: have I made any substantive improvement in my content- especially OPTIONAL, ETHICS and ESSAY. Will I be able to get around 550 in these 4 papers? If the answer is Yes - go crack prelims :)

Speed and Structure —>3 months is enough. The thing with speed is that you can’t for example double your speed in 3 months. If you write really slowly, better work on it in advance. If you have clarity on an issue - structure is not very difficult.

Content —>Trying to do new basic content has not worked for me in the past. Post-prelims should ideally be for 3 things: New CA, Revising and Writing. But that is the ideal scenario. Minimum your Optional should be done 100%, Ethics should be done 100%. And 50%-60% of other GS papers.

I used to spend a lot of time doing new optional stuff after Prelims. Consequently always got around 90 in GS papers. Must avoid this IMHO.

@vikhcu2073 true, I guess, ideally by now mains score would have been declared and I would have had a clearer idea about my performance. This added delay in prelims has only led this beast of uncertainty further astray
Thanks:)

Lawyers representing W.Bengal and Maharashtra furiously contesting UGC Exam guidelines on grounds of Art.14. Follow on Live Law.

On the other hand bench led by Justice Arun Mishra summarily quashed a petition challenging NEET/JEE on same Art.14 grounds yesterday. Without even asking the State to explain what safety measures are being put in place. Depressing.

Meditation will definitely not work. Feedback and guidance is good but not a magic bullet. No alternative to plain simple reading from basic books and newspapers.

@Titan55 bhai you are wrong as per me. Dont mind. How to improve by self study and analysis is totally there in this brutal competition. Here i will enlist some of them
1. Following insights model answers secure synopsis
2. Looking answer sheets of toppers and reproducing it
3. Joining test series after prelims
4. Watching successfull toppers videos and making notes of their lecture what they did
5. Attending all india mocks paid one or free like abhyas
6. The mosy important making notes of everything under the upsc syllbus
7. Revising

I hope by sitting at home and doing self study is the ideal thing for this upsc unpredictable but predictable exam.

Same guy getting selected repeatedly in upsc clears the air of hardwork and selfimprovmnt by anymeans.

Thanks to ICT revolution
