@Malcolmyes, I know it's escapism. But I'd rather say I feel like escaping from the circle of life which I find people around me entangled in. The ones leading a standard Life have so many stress points that I rarely see them happy or content. There's always some sort of frustration regarding some result, job, marriage etc. Even if all these things go well, the same cycle continues with kids with people being stressed about the same things for their kids.

I just feel like living in a different way sometimes. It's just a thought actually as of now. Maybe I might see myself as I've always been in a few months time.

@STek alag perspective chaahiye life Ka, aisa sochta hoon Kai Baar. Pata Nahin if that's possible or not.

@kochikaameyou will throw this want of different perspective into bin once ur name appears in holy pdf and would probably be searching for best resorts in Himalayas to spend time with ur future or current bae. This perspective is just a phase probably.

Hilaao aur so jaao ! kal Monday hain.

@STI'll certainly forget this for a while if I qualify mains but I've been thinking about all this for almost 2 years now. And by the way, everything's good in my family and life in general. Just something I think based on my observations of life and people. Maybe will discuss this some other day in more detail.

@kochikaameEveryone's gonna become philosophical for a short time at some point in life. That's part of life, i feel?

@NadigVinaythat's true. We all end up thinking about purpose of life and all that sometime. CivilS ki prep thoda aur jyaada philosophical Bana deti hai I think considering how challenging and unpredictable it is.

@dancingminioni dont know if my answer helps you. I'll just share my experience. Before plunging into UPSC, i had 1.5 years experience in JP Morgan. And then followed by 3 failures n hence 3 years gap. Didn't want to risk losing backup career also n hence decided to get back to IT. Started applying for jobs and very few companies responded n that too they were startups/semi-MNCs which i didn't want to join as I wanted time to study again for CSE. Fortunately i got offers from 2 very good MNCs in 2.5 months. JP Morgan again n Oracle. Worked in Oracle for 1.5 years again before quitting after prelims this year as management didn't agree for 3 months leave.

What worked for me?

Referrals : very very few interviews got scheduled through consultants. College friends, my colleagues who were 10years experienced helped me get an interview opportunity and all i wanted was that. I had faith in my tech skills.

My answer to gap: i wanted to follow my passion and if not by 25 i couldn't have done it ever. And now I'm done with cse, i want to start my career in IT. I even told to few that I'm 26 so don't want to mess-up with my career anymore?

Few things that struck them in my resume (i think so):

  • Hail from #1 regional engineering college in Karnataka ( not iit/nit). So most managers were aware of the college name as i was searching in Bangalore only.
National level tech paper published. An exciting mobile app developed way back in 2011 when there was no Android in India. Tech challenge winner certificate. And some interesting projects.

My suggestion:

Please save your interviews referred by your friends to the end. Until then Attend every interview shortlisted even if it's a startup, you can always refuse joining it if uninterested. Because You'll get to know the questions trend in the market. After you prepare for variety of questions, attend interviews arranged through referrals.

Prepare with utmost seriousness. Remember they are not fools to hire someone who has gap. So you have to prove yourself that you are competent enough even to the day. i was stunned to see JP Moragn drilling me for 6 rounds + HR round for its own ex- employee before selecting me.
Be mentally ready that hunting jobs in IT takes 3-5 months.

Good luck!

Thank you for such a detailed post. I really appreciate it.
I am going through the exact same situation. Looking for jobs in IT.
can I PM you ?
How is Oracle by the way ? How is the workload ? Thinking of applying in Oracle

@paranthapijjamaine likha hai both sides.

YES WE ARE LOSING

Change in attire.
Change in language (angrezi prefer karna)
Change in music taste (Western sunna)
Nuclear families, leaving elderly behind.
Live in relationship, forgetting the value of marriage.
People get settled in other countries and forget their values and culture and adopt the Host's culture & values.

NO WE AREN'T

Festivals pe ya family functions mein most of the women prefer Saree.

Many people prefer Mother tongue to communicate.

Nayi generation mein bhi kuch hain jo classical ke deewane hain

Many people don't desert their parents even now.

Many people have more faith in the institution of marriage and don't prefer Live in.

Many people even if they settle in foreign, don't leave their culture and values behind. Eg. Diwali being celebrated in the US, UK etc.

Iss se thoda poor hi likha hai actual exam mein maine.

wrote 8 points supporting it like family degeneration, respect for women part of our culturre lost due to commodofication, respect fr animals-->killing n exporting endagered animals for money n meat , deforestation as nature is considered as sacred etc..conclusion on need fr glocalisation
