Now that 1 week is over, it is time to shift focus to Mains. With barely 103 days left there is no time to waste.

Further, work from home is not done in govt. departments to maintain secrecy. One can not carry files to home especially regarding result..
@Nalandahmm.. Waise bhi they stick to their standards(never heard of upsc taking back results), atleast there is certainty(unlike state psc)

Why did the Bhakti movement first start in South India and then followed by North India? Any guesses?
One reason could be the royal patronage. Read once that the Bhakti saints in the South got royal patronage which was absent in North. This period was also of the rise of Rajputs and important positions held by Brahmanas. Only after the Turkish invasion & coming of Islam(& sufis), the movement became prominent.

Reproducing from my understanding of textbooks read till date:
Because of the nature of caste system practiced in South India. North had well defined Varna Dharma Vyavastha including proliferation of Jatis and the same was lacking in South with society divided among Brahmins, Dravidans, Adi-Dravidans (This categorization can be contested). The North had various other sects.
Following Weberian concept of Theodicy of Disprivilege, Bhakti Movement provided an alternative world-view as you know and for sure would have read.
Question is why Bhakti Movement later became so popular is North India despite the fact that other sects were present which did incorporate concerns of those at lower rungs?
Decline of Buddhism, Decline of Royal Patronage to Sects, Advent of Islam (which through its notion of union of all, though later Sanskritized-Read Caste type elements in Islam) could have easily taken hold of sizeable Hindu Population at lower rungs (Read Spread of Islam in Bengal, Bihar, UP).

@vision2020the main reason behind bhakti in south was the emergence of the institution of temple in the south under the patronage of local vassals and a central authority which were the actual beneficiaries of the rise of Bhakti cult. Such an institution, at the same time, was not present in the north which had lack of political stability unlike south...itna hi yaad aa raha hai..
