Should i keep reading my optional for 1 hour everyday or should i stop studying it till prelims

I have given Prelims twice (one serious attempt) but couldn't clear it (Probably with a significantly less margin as I think). But my optional is mathematics. If I leave it now, it is like starting from scratch after prelims. soi am a little bit nervous about that.
I am getting around 50-60 marks in open tests. I am confident that this will increase after completing the revision of some subjects that I have to do now.
