@LionKing2021 what is the deal with insiders? I mean why do people need to even know insider info? Result will anyway come on time and the result will not change. and what good will come from knowing when papers will start to be getting checked or how many seats are there in advance? some of this info is not needed well in advance and some of this info is of no use to us as candidates

The only benefit from insider info is for the insiders themselves. Know a peon/DEO in UPSC and you can be an "insider". Then tell few hours before, when the result will come (a useless info) and aspirants will start to think of you as a God. Maintain the name for few years and then capitalise on it and start your coaching centre! (With generic predictions on prelims/mains/interview questions inbetween).

UPSC should in fact end this sh*tty practice by announcing the result date a few days before (which they can easily do).

Why so cynical?

Aspirants participate in speculation not only for information.

It tones down the anxiety in many.

It gives a breathing space in otherwise hectic schedule.

It offers a way to remain engaged with fellow aspirants.

It gives an opportunity to socialise.

It's the excitement!

It's been a tradition!

It must not end :)

@Philip_Marlowe if whatever you mentioned in your message is that easy, why don’t you start this?
I mean people may have pecuniary motivations or may not have at all. By simply disgusting everything like this shows you probably hate insiders for some reasons.
Also, if you are not interested in their info just ignore them like I do, but do not disrespect them as some scamsters. Also, ForumIAS actually started using the modes and methods as you mentioned in your post but they are today able to progress as a very credible institution because they maintained the quality. Also, majority of people who are admin of that channel t.me/csp20info are in service now. So I would again say, don’t be so cynical and disrespectful to others. Kindness will take you to the top.

Peace ✌️

@AzadHindFauz ill tell you what it exactly does in point format of upsc as youve done:
-it wastes time.
-it doesnt tone down anxiety. you double the anxiety. when you know a result will arrive 1day from now. 0.5days from now, 12hours from now, within 1 hour, in few minutes, you definetly are not at peace compared to when you simply didnt know when it would be out and just knew that it would be in say mid march
-breathig space can be utilised in much better things. what good has speculation done.
-last time i checked after a not so favourable result, people complain of having wasted time after the exam in this
-b*kchdi is understandable. one is tired and wants to let go for sometime. but you dont meet real people in real world. so in effect your other aspects of life also stay stagnant. virtual world is basically a total destruction for oneself. i can be a good friend and suddenly vanish or become anonymous.

some more points from my end:
-manya times insider info is not 100% ACCURATE. once they say something and result is delayed, they face flak. all are at loss
-people end up fighting with each other on trivial issues
-idle mind is devils workshop
traditions can change too. people have to take steps

@Capedcrusader1 a credible insider might tell you mains cutoff and trends of evaluation, that may help you in figuring out where you lie in the list if you clear mains, may help at interview stage.
Knowing result date is not a big deal these days as upsc follows a set pattern. Let’s say, this year based on trends, mains results will be announced after 15th.
also speculations ease your nerves and if one has nerves of steel, I am sure they are definitely not looking for infos or speculations and definitely are not here on forum 😬
My only reasoning was, if you don’t like them, ignore them and let them enjoy their life 🤣🤣

@Capedcrusader1 if you are this well aware of the cons associated with speculations, why to indulge here at all. What you are saying is this “because I have no control over my dopamine, hence government should ban porn”

if you really understand that speculations and bakar is useless and if you are very well aware of the utopian concept of living in a room, then why to Interact here at all.!

@LionKing2021 seriously bro, what kind of argument is this "if you dont like it, let them do it", "if you dont want it, stay out of it". ofcourse illdo what i feel is right. even i can say then "if you dont like it, dont answer me". If you find the exam tough, dont give it. if you dont like delhi air, stop breathing air. Upsc candidates can do better than that

Have you guys discussed the essays of this year?

If anyone can tell/provide the little summary of what all points were discussed in  Essay A.1 (that self discovery thing)

P.S. please do not tell the fodder points given by coaching. I am looking to know what the actual candidates wrote in exam.

@Capedcrusader1 I attempted A.1 and B.3
which one did you attempt?

I started with Aristotle’s idea of happiness (eudaimonia) to make an argument why self discovery is important, gave the example of Buddha. Further I quoted plato why and how things happen (T, S, A monolith). I started making a framework on how self discovery was achieved in past (agents and approaches for the same), in here I mentioned about the role of family, society, religion and individual experiences. I tried to give examples of Ashoka, Gandhi and India’s quest for nuclear power (self discovery of a nation), (at national level I quoted Nehru to substantiate how leaders shape self discovery of a nation). I discussed how religion shaped the idea of self discovery. I further dwelled into fallout’s of this process of self discovery.
As I moved ahead, I quoted Homosapiens by YNH in which he talks about how the first revolution (the discovery of agriculture- changed the meaning of life and hence I talked about self discovery aspect here)

In the second half of essay, I started pitching on which technologies are shaping the lives of human and started putting facts on Social media, Nano tech in health etc. further I argued how modern man is defining one self on the basis of likes and dislikes he is getting on social media (talked about Instagram etc and it’s impact on idea of self ->behaviour changes etc, depression if not satisfied with others response on social media.
At social level, I talked about the Homodeus book by YNH, how data has become the new religion thus shaping our social interactions and humans are largely dependent on technology to develop interpersonal relations etc. At business level, talked of surveillance capitalism driving behavioural changes.
at national level I talked how self discovery of a nation for security perspective used to be in terms of physical and kinetic capabilities and is now outsourced to technology like cyber etc. talked about next potential war to be non kinetic and driven by technology only.

in conclusion, I stated few positives of technology to achieve new dimension of self awareness for greater good the global society (quoted climate change related stuff here)
finally Used Modiji’s quote that research is eternal like human soul, New India must find balance blah blah..compared Nehru’s vision of self discovery and Modi’s vision of self discovery and role of technology in that.

I don’t know how I fared 😐

@Philip_Marlowe well this situation has infact arisen once. they were taken to task by the commission itself because someone from the student community acted cool and did something unethical (basically a prick). the insiders were in a situation. (not sure of the details)
i wouldnt go to the extent of saying that they are in it for money etc. no personal attacks as they are actually good people and have created a community which discusses about studies too.
my only issue was with speculation in particular which im laying to rest. the group and its admins are all sweethearts and help others (including myself)

@LionKing2021 bhai apka pehle part me "technologically" outsource nai aa rha h.  i wrote some examples in part 1. like recently a tribal couple performed a dance and it became a rage on social media. this is self discovery of talent via technology. basically exploring more dimensions ad linking it to technology. we have to tell how technology has empowered people, economy, international relations . right now i cant exactly remember what i wrote. in the second part before way forward and conclusion i wrote how technlogy outsource is a cause of concern like brain drain, and that its not necessary that technology will lead to self discovery for good (blue whale game). baki wahi sab . new It rules doing away with E2E is good step, follow BBC media code ethics, Fb 10 commandments.
conclusion cant remember.

next was history farce
intro: we had WW2, it was a tragedy. exaplained tragedy like need to colonize, racial supermacy, etc. now in the name of a world order or peace, UDHR, UN and other institutions, war crimes , human right vilations, refugee crisis and SIDS/LDCs are subject to climate events, history is repeated again but this time in the veil of a peaceful world order which is a farce obviously

dimensions opened: women 73rd ca is a farce pati pradhan. tribal Fra is a farce, eviction happening, kept exploting tragedy part too. cant remember other points

gave 5-5 sanskrit shlokes in end

vasudhaiv

yatra naryaste pujyante ramante tatra devta

gandhi 7 seven sins sprinkled here and there

4.9k views
before conclusion: introduced my optional thing. this is done to not blame the government. levis strauss talks about binary opposites. we are hardwired to 'other' everyone. this we vs them feeling is the reason for ethnic conflicts etc

tech outsource:
before conclusion optional introduced: post modernists scholars like michel foccault talks about panopticon. the fear the everyone is being watched is the concept here. privacy issues are being raised as an issue in self discovery.
this point (and one more post modernist who says that science is not neutral and favours the wealthy) was explored in the second part of the debate.

There are good people among insiders, no doubt, as in everything. But there are people with not so good intentions too. My only point is, why take a chance? Let UPSC itself declare the result date in advance. Let's not depend upon middlemen.

To those who say, "if you don't like it, just ignore it", we can ignore anything that way. If you don't like corruption, ignore it. At least these corrupt guys get things done, right? (And if you didn't like my comment, just ignore it :P)
