SOLUTIONS TO DAILY CSAT MISSION # 59

1.(C) 2.(C) 3.(B) 4.(C) 5.(A)

Explanations
1. The animals in the zoo are either tigers or peacocks.
Let the number of tigers be ‘x’ and the number of peacocks be ‘y’. A tiger has four legs and a peacock two.
So, (x + y) = 60 and (4x + 2y) = 200. This gives y = 20.

2. Original quantity of milk in the mixture = 40 * 3/5 = 24 L.
Original quantity of water in the mixture = 40 * 2/5 = 16 L.
10 L of the mixture will contain 6 L milk and 4 L water.
After first operation, milk = 24 – 6 + 10 = 28 L. Water = 16 – 4 = 12 L.
The ratio of milk and water becomes 28:12. So now, 10 L of mixture will contain 7 L milk and 3 L water.
After second operation, milk = 28 – 7 + 10 = 31 L. Water = 12 – 3 = 9 L.

3. Let the number of people who actually worked be ‘n’. They took 30 days to finish the job.
The total work they put in = 30n.
If there were (n + 8) people , as was the original intention, they would have finished the job in 20 days. So, the work they would have done = 20(n + 8).
Since the work is the same in both situations, 30n = 20(n + 8) which gives n = 16.

4. Volume of the original cube = 8*8*8 = 512. Volume of each smaller cube = 1*1*1 = 1. So, number of smaller cubes = 512/1 = 512.
Surface area of original cube = 6*(8*8) = 384.
Surface area of each smaller cube = 6*(1*1) = 6. Total surface area of the smaller cubes = 512*6 = 3072.
Percentage increase of surface area = [(3072 – 384)/384]*100 = 700%.

5. Discount = 10% of marked price = Rs.28. So, Selling Price = Rs.280 – Rs.28 = Rs.252.
Profit = 26%. Let the Cost Price be ‘CP’. Then, SP = [(100 + Profit %)/100]*CP, i.e. 252 = [(100 + 26)/100]*CP. This gives CP = 200.
