HC upholds Sports Ministry’s circular: The Madras High Court on Wednesday upheld a circular of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports which states that only Indian citizens can be part of national sports teams. This is related to questions of citizenship and NRIs.
India moves to reset ties with Iran: India has begun to reset its ties with Iran, notwithstanding the uncertainty surrounding the negotiations between the Persian Gulf nation and the P5+1 (Britain, France, Germany, China, Russia and the United States).

India among top 10 FDI recipients: After 2008, for the first time, India has again broken in to the top 10 recipients of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2014. For the first time, FDI inflows in to China’s services sector were greater than into its manufacturing sector, symbolising China’s rise as a competitor in the services sector.
Australia to join China-led infra bank: Australia has announced that it will join the new China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as a founding member, contributing about $930 million to the financial institution. India is going to be the second largest shareholder in this institution.
India emerges as third largest FDI source for U.K.: India has emerged as the third largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for United Kingdom (UK) after United States (US) and France in terms of number of projects. This is an expression of India’s growing clout in the world economy.
Khamenei talks tough as n-deal deadline nears: The P5+1 want Iran to commit to a verifiable halt of at least 10 years on sensitive nuclear development work as part of a landmark atomic deal they aim to reach by June 30. They are offering in exchange relief from sanctions that have crippled the oil exporter’s economy.
US spied on French presidents: Documents published by WikiLeaks late Tuesday shows the U.S. National Security Agency eavesdropped on the last three French presidents. It raises issues on rights to privacy of citizens, and sovereignty of a nation in this case.

Looking to the Supreme Court: A look at the cases involving disproportionate attempts, and judicial accountability at large.
Not a mouthpiece: The Rajya Sabha TV is not and should not function as a mouthpiece of the present day govt. It is accountable to the Parliament and its members (the Legislature), and not the Union Govt (the Executive). This is a case of friction in the principle of ‘Separation of Powers’.
Mastering the drill of democracy: The emergency in 1975 no doubt was a blot, but in its own way, it has contributed to perfecting democracy and republicanism in India.
Foreign service must remain elitist: The IFS (Indian Foreign Service) has lost the appeal it had a few decades ago. If IFS has to perform effectively, its elitism should be preserved, its attractiveness enhanced, and it should be brought to the centre of international relations as it was originally intended to be.
Indian army chasing pipe dreams: Overambitious norms in qualitative requirements are largely responsible for the alarming equipment shortage that the forces face today. The army is setting overreaching and unrealistic aims in terms of equipment.
