Being a rebel is not about bunking classes, wearing torn jeans, fighting with your parents, screaming that society sucks etc. Being a rebel is getting down to doing what you believe in, putting in hours of hard work, taking crazy risks and inspiring people to follow your path. Being a rebel is not cool. Its boring with lots of hard work.

Effort counts twice-  Angela Duckworth

  1. Why students withhigh SAT scoredrop out more (an the end) atWEST POINT BEAST inUS -When you are challenged in a variety of ways in every developmental area- Mentally/Physically/Socially (The System will find your weakness).
  2.  Scripps National spelling bee How a kid with average verbal ability went further than those with good verbal intelligent. For example in FINAL ROUND INDIAN kid could correctly spell A-P-P-O-G-G-I-A-T-U-R-A (a musical term)------"We still have hard time in spelling/pronouncing "HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE". :D

Conclusion-

  • Talent*Effort = Skill
  • Skill*Effort = Achievement

Talent* (Effort)^2= Achievement

#GRITis all that Matters most (Never give up Attitude)-Angela Duckworth

You know when I started meeting folks in the real world, ( as opposed to the virtual forumias world ) one of the key things that struck me was the variety of people that write civil services. It is difficult to imagine.

Among the first ten mock interviews that I took was of Pranjal

It was the first time I observed that why visually challenged candidates may not always score well in interview ( though normally we would think that the board will have sympathy with them ).  And I also how extraordinary effort a lot of people have put in.

In retrospect, I have come to realise that people who may have studied all their lives , won laurels all throughout , with a sense of entitlement may always be beaten in the race by people who work hard now - despite their positive or negative backgrounds.

Some of the experiences I have had may look incredible even I told them - because they are difficult to believe.

So yes , effort beats genius anyday.

Others' opinion matters when you are on low self-esteem. This space gets amplified during Civil Services Prep as we do it during the cream years of our youth(Mostly 22-28). We see other people enjoying, earning and being happy whereas we are sitting in an idle room studying, just studying. Self-doubt creeps in, a feeling of lagging in the race of life bothers us and we start to think low of ourselves. On top of that, most people around you who have not prepared for this exam will never understand your struggle and will further put you down given the chances. Therefore, being punched down from all sides, we crave for validation from everyone and here others' opinion starts to matter.
How to battle it?
1- Get lost in work. Achieve that flow state where you spend most of the time either doing or thinking about your work, leaving less time for there things.
2- Surround yourself with positive people who will radiate your life with the same energy.
3-Most important, realize that every person has a different path. Take the following examples.
Mark Zuckerberg became a billionaire by 21, whereas Jack MA was struggling to make his ends meet during that time. He became a billionaire after Mid '30s.
In 2008-09, Rahul Gandhi was the shining star of Indian Politics. He was everywhere, covered by everyone. Narendra Modi( Still a big shot leader) was a dwarf compared to his stature during that time. Now you can see how things change.
In 2012, Lionel Messi had 4 Ballon dors(Best footballer of the year award) while Cristiano Ronaldo had 1.
Come 2018, both of them have 5 now.
Everyone has a life path. Just do your work diligently, you will be rewarded.
As the adage goes- Apna Time Aega!!

English Translation:

Anger leads to clouding of judgment, which results in bewilderment of the memory. When the memory is bewildered, the intellect gets destroyed; and when the intellect is destroyed, one is ruined.

Be kinder to everyone around you, a moment of your kindness can save someone's life.  But do not be kind as a favour, do it for yourself and you will see the happiness flow through you. The world will be a better place! :)

“Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn't something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something inside of you. So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn't get in, and walk through it, step by step. There's no sun there, no moon, no direction, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like pulverized bones. That's the kind of sandstorm you need to imagine.

And you really will have to make it through that violent, metaphysical, symbolic storm. No matter how metaphysical or symbolic it might be, make no mistake about it: it will cut through flesh like a thousand razor blades. People will bleed there, and you will bleed too. Hot, red blood. You'll catch that blood in your hands, your own blood and the blood of others.

And once the storm is over you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won't be the same person who walked in. That's what this storm's all about.”

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that!"

The worst mistake you can make is to give up on yourself and stop challenging yourself for fear of failure.

Keep moving forward with a firm eye on the future, telling yourself - "I will start from today"!

I will start afresh from now, this very moment!
