What is the difference between Informal sector and Unorganised sector?
Both are used interchangeably at times, but there is a difference.
The organized sector comprises both the public and private sectors. In both sectors, there is a possibility of the existence of an informal sector ==>Informal sector/employment may exist even under the organized sector.
If the Bihar government hires a Scorpio for their Tika Express program, they are creating a type of informal employment. Many of the contractual work inside the organized sector is informal in nature. The Scorpio owner won't get social security and other benefits while serving for the state government. In the same manner, even the private sector employs informally. Consider a security guard working for a reputed MNC. 99% of the time they are not on the payroll of the company but hired on a pro-rata basis. So, they do not get health, maternity, and other benefits that a formal employee enjoys.
In academic parlance, informal employment/sector would be one that is not subject to labor laws, does not offer social protection and employment benefits to the employee.Every person working without adequate and due protection makes up the informal sector in India.
The unorganized sector comprises of private sector only, specifically the enterprises that are not covered by surveys like ASI, NSSO, etc. In simple terms, we do not have any record of what goes in the unorganized sector. The government says that whatever is not under the organized sector makes up the unorganized sector. You may laugh it off, but it is an accepted definition.
That being said, there is a scope of formalization even within the unorganized sector. Thanks to GST. When a small business files a return under the GST, it essentially is providing the data to the government. That's why we say that GST has led to the formalization of the economy. This is so because many enterprises from the unorganized sector are now filing returns to claim ITC.
The businesses that are not filing returns and are not covered under one of those surveys undertaken by the government have both unorganized and informal characteristics.

The security guard reference is confusing me a bit. As per your explanation, to me, it implies that security guard hired by the MNC on a pro rata basis, comes under informal sector because s/he isn’t on the payroll of the company.
Now let’s suppose, the security guard is hired by the MNC on a contractual basis via a security agency. The agency has 40 security guards to offer(making agency formalised because the number of guards with them exceeds the criteria for both epf and esic deductions), all recruited on a contractual basis to the the same MNC. The salary of guard is ₹14000 pm, hence s/he is under the ambit of both EPF and ESIC deductions. The guard is not being payed by the MNC(implying s/he is not on their payroll) but s/he is getting her/his salary from the agency with all the deductions. The MNC is paying salary to the security agency and security agency is paying that salary to the guard.
Now this makes the security guard a part of formal economy right because s/he is getting salary with all the deductions and benefits from the security agency or is s/he is still a part of informal sector because s/he is working at the MNC but without being on their payroll?
P.S.- this reference of “payroll of the company” is seriously confusing because there are several MNCs who don’t keep their executives and even senior executives on their official payroll. They hire some third party vendor to issue salaries and these mentioned employees are on this third party payroll. What makes them part of the the formal economy are the lawful deductions and benefits that they are legally entitled to, irrespective of the fact they being hired on the company’s payroll or some third party payroll. (I’m just running my brain here, I’m not very sure if this is right or wrong).

"Via a security agency" brings another enterprise into the picture. If there is a third-party vendor in the picture, then it qualifies as an enterprise (based on different definitions of ESIC, EPFO, etc.) and if hired men are on their payroll they make up the formal economy.
The example I gave was that of an individual not associated with any enterprise, but working for one without such benefits.

Okay. Thanks.
@AzadHindFauz Thanks a lot."While the size of the unorganised sector has been shrinking gradually, the portion of informal sector workers within the organised sector (as contract/casual labourers) has been on the rise.".Now it makes sense.

Anyone appearing for UPSC CAPF, next month?Yo bhai.
I am just going to solve its past 10 years papers. What about you?
Im concerned with the CA part! Thought to do it from state pscs specific magazines for 6 months. Also, do you have the solved pdfs of both papers?
No, I am not doing any specific CA for this exam. I don't think it's required. I am completely banking on my prelims preparation to sail me through.
For PYQs I will purchase a book from market. I don't have any pdf.

Hi, I have a query which i am not able to find effective solution. My handwriting is poor and in particular letter h,n and u,v,w looks similar when i write fast. I failed this Mains and i believe my presentation has a big role to play in my downfall. I have tried writing problematic alphabets separately, tried writing the lyrics of song while listening, tried those words which donot look legible...but it has been a month and i don't see any improvement on it. When i will write answer time bound, those bad writing comes automatically to me. Do anyone has solution about this. Any idea you have, please suggest me. It will be a lot of help to me. Thank You
I have a similar problem and I would advise buying those four line notebooks that we used to write in school and just writing abcd….xyz everyday. I’ve been doing this for over a month and I have seen a vast improvement. Even I failed my mains, which I suspect is due to illegible handwriting and I can see the marked difference from my answer scripts from last year
