@Hermione_Granger we decided to not discuss politics here but I'll mention something because it concerns what we aspire to do in future.

You mentioned that being silent is wrong. As a bureaucrat, you'll have to do that atleast formally. Maybe you can use internal redressal mechanism but it's not the place where one gets loud and emotional about what he/she is feeling. I guess one of the biggest behavioural trait that a bureaucrat needs to inculcate is not to get sentimental about things.

That's what I am trying to do in my own capacity. Beating students is wrong but I don't see the point in hitting the streets without a proper enquiry of the incident.

@ManchesterUnitedfunny you would say that because Karnataka students have actually been voicing their opinions vociferously since past weeks. Top university IISC has relentlessly been protesting against CAA-NRC, and so has IIM Bangalore in form of silent vigil. Christ University management had to issue notice to students to not discuss/debate it on campus. Meanwhile, Manipal also had students organising protests. Even teachers at IIM Bangalore along with students wrote to govt condemning violence against students. IISC yesterday even protested to show solidarity with JNU students. NSLIU Bangalore and IIM yesterday gathered at Town Hall for the same purpose.
Also, Apart from Karnataka, various other premier institutions of India and the plenty others in the entire world have been voicing their concerns.

But, I guess selective amnesia does run deep.
Also few people here, while masquerading as neutral arbiters or trying to pose as the devil’s advocate are actually harbouring very disturbing double standards, and few even bigoted.
Before 2014, everyone used to say shit about congress which they deserve, and everyone used to openly criticise Manmohan Singh, and everyone used to support Kejriwal and Hazare against fight for corruption.

Why are same things today condemned at?
Right and left both have very toxic hypocrisy and I hope we not as aspiring civil servants but just as humans, don’t lose our heart in the process. It’s almost troubling to see what have people come to be. While the Left suffer from selective amnesia when it comes to plight of Kashmiri Hindus, Islamic fundamentalism and discrimination against Hindus in theocratic neighbour states. The Right is blind against 2003 riots, mob lynchings, absolute control over neutral institutions, hijacking of journalism, poison being spewed 24/7 on IT Cell and so on.

Aristotle said rightly that educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all. And, one might become an IAS one day, but that doesn’t mean one’s good person. And it’s almost appalling that people would go to lengths to defend ministers when they see how common man suffers at their hands. Nanavati Committee exonerating you know who but pointing fingers at those 3 honest IPS officers which tried to who tried not be a yes man and protect innocents. All former bureaucrats Shiv Shankar Menon, MK Narayan, SY Quirashi, and tonnes of others, entire academia, experts, worldwide intellegensia - everyone is left? It’s not easy to speak out when you have something to lose, and it’s very easy to be pro establishment because it’s win win. While one not be anti-something just for the sake of it - not doing anything, is equal to encouraging it. Actors, YouTubers, few good journalists receiving death threats for showing a dissenting voice? This is just going backwards.

Let us for once try to put ourselves in original position, behind veil of ignorance. Condemn each and every wrong, and call out hypocrisy where ever you see it. Islamic fundamentalism is fucked up. But so is every other form of religious fundamentalism.

@Hermione_Granger attack on JNU students in hostels should be considered as a terrorist activity and NIA should be handed over the investigation. It was dis-heartening to see goons beating students.
It is not about ideology whether left or right, it is about rule of law. whatever be the affiliation of these goons whether left or right, one thing is clear tomorrow me or my family members or any of us will get beaten by them, if not given suitable punishment. They were carrying HAMMER inside an educational institute and were threatening students. They had no fear at all. All political parties should rise above petty politics and give justice to students of JNU and citizens of India as whole.

My response to recent events is primarily shaped by a statement I came across in ignou 'book on public policy analysis ,"the civil servant is a rational functionary whose main task is to carry out the will of those elected by the people".

@kochikaameI talked about violence, politics and he/she on about CAA protests and solidarity with JNU
No sane human enjoys to see anybody injured and whatever wing they are, they should be punished in the highest way possible!

And coming to iisc iim manipal,I told we dont have political affiliations in our state among students and didn’t tell they aren’t spineless!
It was reactionary protests in solidarity with violence on Jamia and JNU not proactive politics!
Question was about gandhara buddha and you are on about mathura buddha!
Anyways whatever sails your ship!

I find events of JNU so overrated after witnessing student politics in my university. All I can say about current events in JNU- Taali ek hath se nahi bajti. I have me friends in SFI NSUI ABVP and all I know about these student unions is that they just intend to propagate mayhem to prepare the ground for their future political adventures.
I have seen their activities so closely that I find zero sympathies for them and their bleeding heads, they are just nuisance, law and order problems

No.... before EWS, caste certificates need to be made. And those castes should not be in other reserved categories.

The Left is a sore loser. The citizens returned the "Right" with a thumping majority in May 2019. This was even after the award-vapsi campaigns, the open letter brigade, their toxic puke on Twitter and what not. 'Intellectuals' united against the incumbent dispensation thinking they knew what was good for the country. But they were proved wrong by the public.

In this all-consuming high-headedness, the Left refused to accept people's mandate and rather continued to undermine it. But, just because some people protest against CAA, it does not mean INDIA rejects it. Violence at JNU is condemnable, but it is not the whole story, is it? Bollywood pricks aren't even good at what they do, suck up to box office when it's time and then drive down from Bandra-Worli to Gateway of India in the pleasant Bombay breeze to preach communism on the side, high on Bombay Sapphire.

The genuine Left wants to live for the country. But the Right wants to die for the country. Ain't no Bhagat Singh no Ram Prasad Bismil. The left opposes every policy from GST to Art 370 abrogation as it wants to live to fight another day. Unfortunately, as romantic as that seems, it has no answer to the Right's ultimate question- "How willing are you to die for your country?"

@majormiketangoThe problem with left wing is that they have presumed themselves to be the sole torch bearer of righteousness.
And they are pretty orthodox in their approach towards society which is one of the major cause behind their extinction.
