@Hermione_Granger it determines the first posting as you have to learn the language . If you get Chinese , you will go to Beijing for sure . And at most the 2nd posting . After that rotation comes into play . If you got class A countries in the first 2, now is your turn to serve in C countries and vice versa .
If you get into IFS , obviously you are not there for a few years and will probably serve 30+ years and in your whole career CFL will not have any impact , but your skills , personality , expertise will be the only thing which will decide how successful you are , and if you got more good countries on average than your peers . And one more thing as other people are claiming about 1st Gen , 2nd Gen IFS . MEA is the most professional of all organizations , and this kind of nepotism is more prevalent in home based services , it has no place in the IFS .

There was an AMA(Ask Me Anything) conducted by an IFS officer a while back on Reddit. Really gives an idea about the service and it's pros and cons. Will really help people who are considering IFS to be their first choice.

The news of IFS getting sacked because of marrying a foreigner doesn't seem reliable/true. Jaishankar's wife is also Japanese and he ended up becoming Foreign Secretary and Foreign Minister now.

Last year cut off was 774 for general and 732 for obc.

Keeping in view the increase in seats and GS papers as well as optional, cut off is presumed to decrease.
So, my humble submission in this regard for cut offs would be 750-760 for general, 745-750 for EWS and 715-720 for OBC.

But, I think cut off would be lower than last year given the increase in seats and gs questions.

@Hermione_Granger No, AMAs are done for the promotion of films, novels etc too. Hollywood celebs do it very often.

Reddit must be the least famous social media platform in India!

@Nalandas anything might happen. According to seats in notfn, i guess not much increase in UR seats so i thought cutoff wud be similar or slightly less than last year

Cut-off for general would be near to last year. Almost similar no. of seats, more people writing test series, overall competition has increased, many being beyond forum would have done decently well.
