Hi guys, I have a query. If one gets selected in IFS (Forest) with good cadre as well as in IRS (IT), which choice should he opt for?

Go for IRS (IT). My dad is in IRS and I feel it's a massively underrated service. You'll get to live in big cities, get lots of respect and would also end up having a great network. It's also easy going to an extent and not very stressful. Also, negligible political pressure.

@pranay3962129No ine is sure about IFS posting & high level connection.Suyash Chavan(IFS 2017) a first generation but posted in Germany. Also what is wrong with cairo posting?its better than posted in a small district where people only think about you as a chamcha of MLA-MPs. In my state west bengal,no one cares about IAS/IPS. Everyone know they cant do a shit. Previus DM of a district here started a initiative to help the workers of tea estate but when he got transfer, new DM stopped it as some MLA having some stupid problem with all those workers.
This is just 1 example.Even in my locality we have problem with waste mgmt/waterscarcity.NOone cares not the municipality not the stupid new DM.

@NadigVinayNow a days agar company mein starting mein apna caliber dikha do, then they easily provide sabbatical to retain you (paytm guys also offered me 3 months sabbatical as another option instead of resigning, but I rejected that), so counting on that if I clear pre this time also.
Hence the plan is that I will take job very seriously till march, and then start preparation for pre from april. If I clear it, will ask for sabbatical (jitni bhi duration ka wo dein).
Obviously all of the above is valid if I am not able to clear this time. Regarding this year's mains, it was my first one. Have completed all the papers, with relevant answers in most of the questions, and not so relevant in some. So, frankly have no idea what to expect.

With the same intention of availing loss of pay , i had worked well until Feb to build an impression in my company. But to my bad luck my entire team and higher teams in India n US got re organised completely in June due to under performance of the product. So it was difficult for my manager to convince the new seniors.

Your plan is well thought. Good luck with the mains n interview!

Any body here giving IRS as second preference over IPS? I.e. IAS>IRS>IPS. How would you justify yourself?

Attended an interview guidance session by a retired IAS few days back and the officer told such preference would attract a question over the reason for preferring IRS over IPS. Or why not IPS over IRS.

@pranay3962129highest FA is in singapore around 4500 USD . and minimum in poland around 3300 USD . for every other country on the globe it lies between 3300-4500 USD for a new joinee . even in nepal its north of 3500 USD per month + indian basic salary . the pay scale of IFS is comparable to sillicon valley employees if you include free housing , free medical , free children education in international schools where yearly fee is 25000 USD and tax free income and the added respect of being a diplomat . and quality of life of IFS is far superior to other services . as they mostly live in capital cities and that too in posh colonies . if you want to compare then in delhi IAS officers live in govt colonies and get around 1.25 lakh per month . and diplomats of even pakistan live in chanakyapuri in posh houses and get 3-4 lakh per month tax free and free education , medical etc .
the downside of IFS is not perks . its the liability to serve all over the world and changing countries every 3 years might be hard for someone . and some might get homesick there . otherwise the perks are of world standards unmatchable to any home based service .

Hey guys..just a petty curiosity. I have left a total of 105 marks(overall in gs). I have not used any diagrams or flowcharts.
Are there any instances from past of such cases making through in mains?

It's hard to answer this question for any sincere aspirant who has faced the harsh side of our belovedUnpredictablePSC. Too many factors involved in mains n interview. Quality of gs, ethics, essay n optional answers. Subject expertise of evaluator on questions which isn't his domain, answer presentation, scaling down trend of few optionals, relative peer performance in same optional, etc. A person who hasn't missed attempting a single mark also just can't be 100% sure of clearing mains/ interview. Just hope for the best.

@LeoMessieven an ASO in MEA (selected through ssc cgl ) makes more money and lives a better life than the bottom services (IIS,ICLS ) someone gets through upsc . The fact is that people are not aware about IFS .

@NadigVinayAs long as IAS is your first preference, service preference almost never invites question, based on my interaction with numerous people who preferred IFS/IRS over IPS.

@John_Titori was talking about how our neighbours like nepal and more recently bhutan use china card to play on our fears of increasing influence of china and on south east asia i was talking how china bullys those countries especially in south china sea dispute to further its intrests but still hav healthy diplomatic relations in those areas.
Anyways i agree we have different views on the subject so lets agree to disagree✌?

@kochikaameSame here. Do let me know what have you decided and your viewpoints after having discussed with others. Its very difficult to come to a conclusion. More importantly its even tougher to justify in Personality Test. Only one point which I can justify is the affinity towards International Trade in Eco Paper-1. That is absolutely my favorite part.
Can anyone shed light on impact of choosing IFS over IAS on PT marks.
All in all this is a wishful thinking from me to even clear mains. Only hope remains
