With all due respect to uncle, many people got 145+ and they started with story. U can start it in either way. No hard and fast rule.

On an unrelated note, do you peeps know of any exit options for civil servants who have 4-5 years working experience ? Is joining the coaching industry a viable career option if one likes that sort of work? I am sure some of you must have had that experience.

I would be grateful if anyone replies with relevant inputs.

@ChampakCivil servants is a broad term. In Group A or B/C ?

@Champaktrying for private sector would be much rewarding and sustainable i guess....based on the area of expertise one can join Investment banks/Auditing consultancies/Think tanks etc...one of my friend's dad had quit the govt and joined IMF...but he had worked in govt for more years

@Champakvikas divyakirti was an ias before he opened drishti ias. Plus, everyone knows about Roman saini. But if one leaves civil services for coaching sector, I don't think he/she would be satisfied with a normal teaching portfolio (unless of course teaching is their passion). One can leverage the rank and go big by starting own venture. My two cents.

But it would be interesting to know how can one leverage the civil services experience of 4-5 years in other sectors.

Coaching industry for a person who has spent some 4 to 5 years in service would be immensely lucrative job. Specially if the person is a half decent teacher.@Champak

@Yes_I_am_inWhy would an essay be needed to be discussed as a debate??
If the story or incident is well rounded and used as a reference to put forward the important argument, it should work I think because I see people getting rewarded for stories all the time. Hope UPSC is more accommodative , which i think it is.

@ShubzIMF is certainly extremely lucrative. There is a cut throat competition for deputation to IMF among civil servants but it does need more experience and a wider network. Anyways, thanks.

@MinimumwageThanks a lot. I like to interact with students. It is a stimulating experience. Civil services are more restrictive. Policy paralysis is so ubiquitous now a days that half of the planning goes into how one can avoid responsibility and push the burden on someone else's head.

Any idea how one can approach the institutes? Is it better to meet directly and negotiate ?

@pravinshinde3592958If out of 10k students, 8k have written in the pro/con format. The remaining 2k are anyways at an advantage. Puri Sir, one of the few good instructors in ORN, used to say that UPSC comes down heavily on anwers that are common. Different answers always fetch more marks even if content is equally good.

I guess you should try out on a trial basis before changing course, a number of serving officers teach or take occasional courses.@Champak
