Mains 2019 Preparation and Discussion Thread

@STinternet and 3 weeks time apne pass hota toh isse bhi basiya answser apan bhi likhte .par afsos 8min aur no internet tya apne pass :(..more than this exam pressure...not like having coke,snacks aur 3 hafte se answer points dhoond rahe hai

@ranyo_asokabest part is that..nobody except iasbaba is claiming that their test series had similar questions and they possess an amazing hit rate

How was the paper

bHai log...almost every optional ki junta says paper was lengthy (esp science and engineering) or tough..or out of context..was it really tough this year?Is UPSC trying to bring down the cut off marks.. or am I being biased owing to a small sample space..any thoughts?

@Khamoshkrantikarihello sir, you are right..My optional was sanskrit lit.and I found it too lengthy ...This time no word limit was given...Last year we had to write 5 essay in 150 word...But this time limit was absent and 3 pages (last year 2) were given.....I found difficulty in completing the paper too.

Firstly it is very difficult to trust memory now, with respect to what I actually wrote in the paper so it is very difficult to compare with any of these peeps. Secondly in a few questions they have done extensive research like the Traditional Knowledge question. Thirdly they are forcing all questions into their mandated structure which was incredibly tough for anyone who was giving the exam. They are also being objective about questions which are incredibly subjective in my opinion, like the sustainability and inclusive growth question.@Rand_Al_Thor

I found civil engineering to be tough. And it was lengthy too.

Pubad was quite subjective, especially P2. Question selection was also difficult. Much will depend on the whims of the examiner.

@Khamoshkrantikarianthropology was okay. Similar to last year. Was able to complete the paper. In paper 2 completed two questions in hurry. But it was not lengthier than 2018

@King_of_the_dead..bhai my optional is also civil engineering and i found P1 lengthy while paper 2 had some questions i had no clue whatsoever..overall paper was tough..i found similar reviews for mechanical engineering paper too on the forum..@zombieland bhai heard d same for anthro from my friends..

@zombielandsome of my answer were very generic in anthro paper 2, rest was good
paper 1 was good

I am unsure about a few questions like facial reconstruction, phenomenology and could not attempt Turner part of that question well because of time. Paper 2 was a bit more technical than last years. But it also depends on the question selection.@sat_009

history optional...paper was bit easier compared to previous years..and thats where things are going to change...and marks will go down!
