@masteroptimist assert toh ni kar skte ...but 20 marks me thoda bhara bhara lage aisa socha ...plus only two options  look like there is one bad way and one good way.. whereas there can be multiple creative alternatives...although case studies bharne ke chakkar me i had to leave 2 part a questions

@Aspirant123 options should be always be more than two.

where is it written? on what official basis do you assert that?

min 3 is must.two that you choose most probably be extremes

@Capedcrusader1 3 is required when you choose two extremes and u have to choose middle path
But if your options are not extreme then u can choose one of them n  there is no need of 3
Eg Environment notice question one can say option 1 withdraw notice option 2nd-  issue notice with time for complying with standards

Or one of the extremes is the answer
Eg Prabhat question either u select or reject candidature

@masteroptimist option 1 may be black, option 2 may be white, option 3 and option nth are different shades of grey. If we restrict our options to just 2, negating the one option will lead to selection of other option without much discussion.

@Aspirant123 i think you are not appreciating the difference between outcomes and options. Outcomes are always two, but options must be more than two. By the way, if there is paucity of time, you can go with the two options, but that will restrict the scope of discussion and hence overall average marking in that question. ethics is all about discussion, not the right or wrong answer. Through discussion, you can justify even seeminlgly unpopular option too.

And what do people with humanities optional do for the same?

I mean marks awarded are definitely very elastic. For instance, people can get 210-310 in psir/sociology. A person getting more than 280 must be getting 60% marks in many questions.

Does anybody have any idea on how to rate their performance in humanities optional paper (like in GS one can take a conservative estimate)?

Koi iska bhi bata do please. I think someone with an experience of giving mains with humanities optional must have cracked how optional marking is different than GS.

Obviously nobody can tell for sure. Wait and watch is the name of the game. But if any kind of clarity can be provided, it'd be great especially for the newbies.

pata nai bhai. usually i find 2 extremeties very easily. the other 2 require some thinking

1) remain indifferent
2) support your doubt and ask@Aspirant123 for more clarification
3) support@Aspirant123  and give u how 3 options can be give.

There is not hard and fast rule..esp that jumbo case study.. subhas prabhat.. there were only two options that is either select or reject... Aur select karna hi uska answer tha... Reject karne k cons jada pros kam the .. so case study can have its own solution without resorting to multidimensional thinking as Cult in UPSC

don't tell me what to do. McCullum.focus on coaching your England cricket team, world cup is coming.

i dont think there is a single solution to case study. if that were the case, they wouldnt put us in that situation. i mean one cant say that such and such will be the solution alone

bhai 2 option approach is best, sari creativity agar dikhani ho to course of action ne dikhani hoti he jo puchha hi nahi gaya. last time mene 2 options hi diye the 2021 me and my score of 98 in gs4 was decent given my poor performance in 2 pagers that year. so don't worry about that.

ap more than two options toh select karoge hi. kyunki next me apko middle path lena h. aur agar sirf 2 loge toh merit demerit zaada likhne padenge. muje yaad nai last time kya aya tha. but course of action nai pucha islie aur bhi zaada important h more options explore karna. agar course of action rehta toh alag se likh lete 1 page. but yahan toh justification dena h kisi ek option ka jo ki course of action rahega. obviously wo option detailed rahega.

last year se koi lena dena nai

@krishna96 how did u manage to finish paper on time during ur preparation along with good coverage of thinkers ?

Bhai ji this is my 5th attempt so I had good content..and answer writing in previous mains..but as i told I have written 2.5 page answer in one question, and probably 3 in another..so you can say 2 answers are not good..due to paucity of time

I want to ask something to those who clear mains or miss mains by a whisker:

for gs 1,2,3, how many questions do you actually know the answer to.

do you also know the answer to static questions which are asked out of the blue?

how many questions are well answered?

only if you’ve done self analysis. Thank you

@Panchayat Good discussion doesnt just  depend on quantity of options.
It depends on the quality of options, quality of course of action, quality of justification, innovative solutions etc.
You cant say that someone used two options so it will be an average marking .Even in 2021 gs4 I got 107 after completely leaving one case study and writing only two options.
So it is not black and white that 2 or 3 or 4 options will fetch more marks.
It depends on quality both of options n justification.
Moreover coming to quantity, it matters but quantity is not just about number of options. It is also about no of points in ethical dilemma ,no of points in course of action and elsewhere.

@Aspirant123 I agree. if one is "skilled" enough, he may narrow down the crux of the matter to just two options. I am not negating your POV, I was just supplementing it.

@Panchayat Its a race against time.
Everyone has to do some tradeoff.
