Guys, Essay Paper is over. How was it?
What is an average score in anthropology?
240 to 250
I disagree with the notion of Mindless & extensive answer writing through Tests wrt Optional (Strictly with respect to PSIR)
Issues in a poor answer (from my experience as an evaluator at the major coaching of PSIR )
1.Poor content: Poor intro & Poor conclusion. Everyone has irritating habit of starting a question on JS Mill with "If anyone is liberal, it is Mill"
2. Poor language & expressionskills
3. Less inter linkages: Not showing the other side & not forming linkages with current
4.Over dependency on Shubhra Mam's notes has made all answers look similar. Any guy from other coachings provides a refreshing perspective
How to Solve the above
1. Poor content can only be solved through good quality notes. There is no replacement to that
Ideal way is to create great answers with quality Intro & conclusion. The ANSWER BUILDING OF PYQ/syllabus points can take one places. This will also help one in the art of structuring answers
Eg - There are only 2 3 possible questions on Hobbes. If one builds good answers, they can be easily reproduced. Half job is done here
2. Poor language & skills can only be improved through good reading & observing the good expressions (Heywood, newspapers etc)
3. Inter linkages can only be developed when you see good topper answers, have command over the syllabus & PYQ.Brainstorming with friends is another way of creating good inter linkages ( Shubham Kumar Rank 1)
4. People will have to move from Madam's lazynotes(Sorry for the strong language). Major problem with madam is her over confidence & resulting neglect of PSIR optional. She has been dictating poor quality notes that have poor language & expression over the years. Instead of using standard books, she has actually been dictating notes based on her memory (First hand experience)
A student from average background replicates her language which at times looks naive - "Some foolish people believe " (And these are her words from the lectures)
However those from good backgrounds are able to navigate with great expression skills.
Madam's notes wrt 2A also have great deficit in terms of both Quality & quantity
I have great grievances wrt Madam's hegemony in the market of PSIR. Yet nobody is criticising her poorly evaluated test series & Poor content. I haven't seen any SATISFIED PSIR student in years !

Regarding evaluation, the less said the better. I got my evaluated 2A answer sheet on 24th September (PSIR exam on 25th :p ). However, content wise the notes, test series discussion and model answers are enough I believe. This was also highlighted by AIR-5 this year (314 marks from more or less mam notes). I also believe that mam understands the demand of the exam. How an answer should be structured and how to use subject knowledge to augment the demand of the question is addressed by her in test discussion.
One of my top-50 ranked friends (270s in PSIR) has advised to not look too much into test evaluation and comments. Rather just give attention to how mam discusses those questions in class.
And yes, there should be more competition and quality teachers of PSIR in market. But sadly, it is not there and hence, the PSIR world order is currently and continues to be Pax-SRicana !!! :p
Hope you and your institute will create a balance of power to tame hegemony !! :D
Aaj ka naya masala !! :pOn a lighter note,@GaneshGaitondeI agree with most of your points. Always felt mam gives too much attention on Paper 1A and neglects Paper2 significantly. However, she covers Paper 2 in crash course at least in last crash course, it was extensively covered.

I humbly disagree. Her crash course is worst. The content is massive & it is very difficult for anyone to consolidate so much b/w prelims & Mains. The demand of the exam is reproduction in Mains Sheet. She fails miserably in that in Crash course with very less relevant content. It only wastes one's time. There are very few good Quality pointers
She creates no synergies in the content. Simply summarises some articles poorly. I don't think they add much value
The model answer test quality is again poor. Even the evaluators have complained about the same numerous times.
But Again, views are personal ! Also other options for PSIR are far worse 🤨

@GaneshGaitonde same problem with history optional.we have baliyan sir notes which I think are redundant(but still some of toppers suggest). Moreover history optional has faced more butchering compared to Psir because of quality content issue.
I personally believe Examiners do identify the kind of notes students are producing. They are smart enough to see the mugging up from a coaching
It is irritating to see same Intro, Body & conclusion being repeated. Hence, an examiner might not give great marks for the same rattofied answer
Shubham Kumar Rank 1 thus emphasised on innovations in answers. I think such answers are rewarded. Also such innovations do not occur on the exam day. It can happen Only when our notes are innovative

@GaneshGaitonde sorry for the naive doubt but didn't Shubham Kumar have anthro, iirc?
Hey, Yes he did, I was just referring to his innovation & brainstorming part. I guess that would apply across optionals 😁

@GaneshGaitonde I absolutely agree with what you are saying...Reading basic books like Heywood, Smith, Gauba, Mehta etc is indispensable. But that coupled with SR's Notes gives sufficient content. Rest is all about expression and language in PSIR. Ofcourse newspaper and CA needs to be comprehensively covered. In fact plain reading of contemporary scholars such as Noam Chomsky, Thomas Piketty etc can give edge over generic answers people write by solely relying on SR's Notes. Test series and only writing answers therein is a recipe for disaster. SR's evaluation is shit because Ma'am hardly evaluate answers now a days. Answer writing should be personalized. For each topic one must prepare own intro and conclusions...at least basic. Contemplating over linkages also helps for instance Hobbes' Social contract with Matsyanyaya or his relevance in failed states. Ma'am's notes and her crash course may not be sufficient yet provide crucial addition to preparation which cant be set aside....
Definitely, I can never deny importance of Mam's notes in defining the scope or extent to which we need to study
Her notes can form the base (They form the base for my notes too) . My comment was entirely meant to highlight the issues a newbie may face in PSIR & the solutions to it
I don't intend to discredit anyone but only aim to highlight the objective illusion & false consciousness that madam's hegemony has created :P

Hahahha.@GaneshGaitonde Shat Pratishat Sehmat hun bhai...par koi to role nibhaye organic intellectual ka :P
They can also take help of traditional ones like Vajiram, GSScore !! :p
@brownianMotion is ma'am videos something different from model answer content and pdf she uploads ? Never found time to watch her videos in any of my attempts. Not very sure how people manage to find time to watch her videos.
Does it help wrt paper 2 ? Paper 2 is my concern as it is more random. In paper 1 people score good despite crash course or no crash course.
You practiced psir from ma'am test series only or done anything along with it like pyq or topper copies ?
I found only very few qn from ma'am test series this time ! Which one are you talking about ?
@GaneshGaitonde Shat Pratishat Sehmat hun bhai...par koi to role nibhaye organic intellectual ka :P
Hahaha bhai
Ab hum gareeb logo ko hi coalition of subaltern banana padega :P. Baki Pehle khud ke marks reveal ho jaye, tabhi to dusro ko gyaan dene layak banenge
