I wrote good content on almost all answer exceptwrote 3 average content and left 1 question in optional because of time constraint! I did not wrote any test series so don't know what may happen. Can anyone tell me should I had written average content in 2 more answer and complete all the questions?

Key is to attempt all the qs with the best of one's ability, in the limited time.

Avg content is very subjective term,to be honest. U never know. Many times , our 'good answers' fetch avg marks nd 'avg answers' fetch good marks .

@Duryodhan I do agree with you. However I didn't have much content on the question that I left. But I could have written something to fetch 1-2 marks

Bhai upsc kaise check krti h kuch nhi pta .itna load lene ka kuch matlab nhi abhi. Noone knows aise attempted answers p upsc kaise marks deti h.

U can analyse ur attempts but should wait for the result n marks before concluding anything.

Doing some unitary analysis
2020 Pre qualified : 10564
2021 Pre Qualified : 9214

Results for mains 2020 came after 65 days (17/1 - 23/3)
Hence for mains 2021, if they go with the same speed, motivation and shakti...it may come in 57 days (16/1 -14/3) ..no speculation though.

@RaGa Tbh Mumbai weather was very confusing. Even in our centre, some rooms were chilly while others were decent owing to the sun.

@leftfaithinmyself  Of course the utopia is all questions to be attempted. However, I remember Akshat Jain said he left 20 marks (or more) in his optional paper yet he was one of the highest scorers. Also while beginning my optional study I had watched a few videos and the general perception subtly seemed to be that if you're not able to manage time, leave 1-2 question but attempt others nicely. Their logic being optional is checked by subject matter experts hence quality matters. Not sure how true all of that is, but sure that you'd have done well.

@Apollo11 that's kind of a relief.. besides i didn't have much content for the question that I left.

@Apollo11 Ya. I feel in this one I maintained good flow. Gave almost 1:55 mins. Ya, my writing style is simplified so conveying has been not been difficult. Second essay couldn't maintain flow propery.

@Admgenalanezh Exactly. I make it where it makes sense. But, I made in landslide question in gs 3 to show landslide prone areas I feel and internal security to show golden crescent and triangle and one map in gs 2 to show where all councils are working to show "current status" in the ques. 🤭

Where all other guys made ?

@Apollo11 this is nice to know. And, previously not many used to do complete paper and now, almost 90% people complete. So may be initially years advantage of just attempting more may have been lost. Just one view.

@Akkku True. Nowadays almost everyone attempt everything. Last time I wrote mains was some 4 years ago. It wasn't the case then. There were people who left behind ethics case studies!

my friend and me were trying to understand few cases of people leaving so many marks and still getting interview call. So, this came up as one point. 🤭

If people here can also tell what all data they used so that everyone gets to know how to not just study it but also use it.

Also, flow charts, maps & diagrams.

@Philip_Marlowe i don't know if this observation makes sense of not but in last 4 years as people have started attempting everything, cutoff is actually progressively declining,  May be a coincidence or too simplistic analysis idk

Whether u can leave a question or not depends upon marking pattern. If they r giving 8 out of 10 in best attempted question then better to leave unknown questions. Bt if best answer fetches 4 to 5 marks then attempting all becomes more important

Cutoff was on lower side before 2016 as well. Even in prelims cut off has declined. It all depends upon upsc.  U cannot say in 2019 most ethical candidates appeared while in 2020 unethical ones. It is just direction given by upsc

Exactly. 3 attempt m yhi smjh aaya h ki upsc ka zyada analysis na karo. Wo khud itna dimag nhi lgate paper bnate time. Sab random h

Does mains cut offf matters? I dobt know. Just thought everyone scores similar marks in interview. Is it? So those who just clear cutoff can crack the exam?
