[ Official ] How was the Prelims 2021 paper?

Any idea regarding forest cutoff?those who gave forest mains last year are getting how much in this year's pre?
5.3k views
@viveknj129165  I can totally relate. From now onward aspirants will spend their precious time reading useless sports section which is 99% gossip in the hope to find some gold. They have a whole economic survey to haunt us but they decided to enter uncharted water.

Those who prepare for state psc along with upsc(70-80% ppl) are already updated with sports current.

This should settle the issue. Examiner asks questions from standard sources and not Google maps, indus water treaty legal document or pakistani websites.

upsc deletes or awards bonus to all in case of controversial questions ??

Upsc me Controversial questions delete nahi hote bhai. These questions are controversial for us and not for upsc. Unhone jiska jo ans dia chup chap vo manna hi pdega.

Agr translation me kuch blunder hua (like last year cdm ko ncm bana dia tha hindi me) tab hi chances hai ki ques del ho bt vo bhi upsc ki discretion pr depend krta hai.

Prev yrs ke pprs dkh lo har saal controversial questions hote hai bt kabhi kuch del nahi hua. 2020 ka bhi sb speculations hi hai abtk, jbtk key nahi aati tbtk kuch bol nahi skte.

Ye sb game state psc me hota hai jaha koi ek source leke jao toh vo log maan lete hai aur sbko marks de dete hai.

@Neyawn Hi sir.  Im getting 105 around.  Prolly outta ifos race. Arent i?

Brother is scoring 95 around. Border case i guess.

When is the remaining part of awfg gonna commence sir?

105 frm which key?or is it after deducting doubtful ones?what is the expected cutoff for ifos pre?

7.1k views
@Shubz shankar, forum, toppers, vision etc All giving 105.33+- 2.66. Not sure about ifos cutoff but 110 in upsc key will be surely safe imo. How much r u scoring?
Also, i am not expecting marks to vary in upsc key like they did in 2020. Marks will be at max +-5 from these keys which was the case in 2019 too,  not -15 as in 2020.

105-110 frm various keys.

Have applied only for ifos

@Shubz considering results will be out in 15 more days, i think ur suffering about whether u will be in will clear out soon. U surely have a chance imo. All the best.

Thanks bro. All the best to you too

Dr sahab, debt creating flows, if you can please elaborate. Gdr bhi debt creating hote hain. Fccb bhi but they can be converted.

Leaving the technical definitions aside, the framing of options also gives an insight into the possible right ans.

Stmt 3 is present individually and with two other stmts, which indicates that stmt 3 might be one of the correct statements.

So in this debate,1,2,3 seems to be more suitable ans.

Although I marked 2 and 4

@AureliusM exactly. Lid weight wont matter cos the sealing of lid is different from normal cooking pots as there is a buckle to be locked along with the handle and force is exerted upwards due to this.

Pre ka result aane tk prestige aur Hawkins pressure cooker companies ke competitors iss group se taiyar ho jaenge.

Koi diagram bana kr dikha raha hai,koi cooker ka har ek part dissect krke dikha raha hai.

Chahe upsc ko pressure cooker kyu na bhej do,vo log vohi ans manenge jo uss book/material me likha hoga jaha se ques uthaya hai.

Ha ..2020 me bhi pre clear Kia tha but UPSC pre k chakkar me mains nahi diya is bar to dena hi padega …enough of this subjectivity.

Though clearing prelims as per various answer keys…but ye mains me samjh nahi aata no. Q nahi aate. Upar se history optional :(

Nabard mains ke liye kya refer krne wale ho?

@GOT8 u could file representation by today, as both A and B do seem correct now

Upsc is not asking representation for answer. They are asking representation for incorrect questions if any.

State definition :

answrr -

(b) A politically organized people of a definite territory and possessing an authority to govern them, maintain law and order, protect their natural rights and safeguard their means of sustenance

why not a

1. A Community (a nation can have to be a community but state can have many communities. ex Indian state , American state both have heterogeneous communities)

2. Permanently living from long time ( It is not required whether they are permanently living from long time or not for creating and maintaining state

For ex - Israel )

Baaki aur bhi hai a to hoga hi nahi.

why B

1. Politically organization ( State is political organization which may only come in existence by virtue of writ, decree or constitution... There can be different type of states but it is politically organized )

2. Definite territory ( yes .. mandatory because ..state is up to there up to where its writ being accepted by people in a territory  . As per loose concept of nation can be in 2 or 3 states based om situation for ex Irish people. But nation state is where community and government both have same alignment  )

3. Authority - Most basic and very important feature. There can ne no state without presence and exercise of authority.

4. rest of all are self explanatory

Source - Read ncert of poltical theory that is gold standard for this question. ok

Even I found opt B more correct and marked it as ans. But thn Shubhra Ranjan eliminated this opt bcuz of the term "natural rights". Also Psir ppl are referring to some Montevideo declaration.

The paper is targeted towards creating level playing field between science and non science students. Isliye zyada technical dimag lagane se answer galat hi hoga.

Pressure cooker ho,magnetite ho,virus wala ho ya koi aur question ho. Jo commonly acceptable fact ho usi ko upsc answer manegi.

@Shubz this is exactly the case many of us are ARTS BACKGROUND STUDENT AS WELL for many of us carbon monoxide in any case is lethal or that matter any other science question.

I have never seen upsc taking a narrow interpretation in such questions. Can be verified from ans keys till 2019. In 2020 also same thing might have happened as I was able to clear forest cutoff(maybe because of such questions going in my favour).

So rest assured, that lethal amt of carbon dioxide opt will definitely be correct. In 2019 as well, many biotech experts brought their subject knowledge to prove their opt correct. But ultimately they all were proved wrong by upsc.

bro the only question from my side regarding casual workers is, why are NCERTs talking about informalisation of workforce ? It’s because all the workers are not having social security coverage. I inferred from those topics that ALL workers ( obviously casual workers are more vulnerable ) are not covered under epf.

I request you to correct me if I’m wrong.

To be honest, this and satluj questions are very poorly framed. Ab jisne ques bnaya hai uski hi interpretation pr depend karega ans.

@atuljiI think sir, UPSC has picked the Q from some PYQ banks... and not frame the Q by itself... so image share by@Aurang_mirasudar... reveal the answer.... which is 1&3

rest UPSC better janti hai

Bs 1 hafte ki baat hai ab.

Sbkuch clear ho hi jaega.

And vo jo upar question bank ki photo ghum rahi hai,jst search the official revised answer key for that(and not some publication key). Going by state psc standards,ya toh vo ques cancel hua hoga ya uske multiple ans sahi maane gye honge.

Disha publications n all wale toh upsc pre ke soln me bhi galat ans de dete hai, isliye hmesha official key se milaya karo kuch milana ho toh

HC has the power to review its own judgement.

Guys when the entire Meaning of the 3rd statement is changed, even 1&3 seems to be wrong. 1 only should be the answer which isn’t given. According to me, there are high chances for pressure cooker question to be deleted.

Questions dnt get deleted like this. Upsc will never accept it's mistake. They will just come up with an ans which can be anything between 1 and 2,1 and 3,1 2 and 3. They anyways release ans key after final result and by that time none of the arguments we are making will matter. Every year some questions are controversial(for aspirants and not for upsc) but such questions never get deleted. Only Outright blunders like translating civil disobedience movement as non coop mvmt, as was done in 2020 ,have chance of getting deleted. If there's even 1% scope of question being correct, upsc will not delete it.

One can go to the court(like 2017) but thn upsc has its own way of handling things and it will win(like 2017).

@Guesswhoshere some guy on some other platform was telling with confidence that this was a trap by UPSC :P i mean this question

Every time ppl think upsc has set a trap and they start to overthink and end up marking wrong ans.But in the end upsc takes the simplest and most straightforward interpretation. State wale me bhi pata nahi kya kya political science ki theory laga kr A ko galat bata dia kaafi logo ne,rbi ko govt ka lender of last resort bana dia

@bhuvanamalar1015412 In 2018, in this same forum blog, we were all discussing about the toughness and different pattern in the paper compared to previous years. Many were expecting the cutoff to be 90 and not more than that. But in the end the cutoff was 98. Whatever the toughness or difficultly, somehow people will get 90+ through luck or hardwork. Don’t expect cutoff to get below 90 in this competition era and decreasing amount of vacancies. If one is sure of getting less than 85, he/she should relinquish the hopes of clearing pre

Cutoff will be between 90-94.

Afterall they need only 3600 ppl who's answers match with their key. Almost everyone is around 85.

Getting 89 after considering all doubtfull wrong..

1. Mitochondria c

2. virus d

3. copper smelting d

4. Magnetite d

5. state b

6. cooker 1 and 3

7. Article 32

8. Casual worker 2 and 3

how many can be correct ?? And what are my chan

So this is how after keeping aside so many ques ppl are getting 85-90. And thn log bolte hai cutoff toh 85 hi jaegi, sbko usse kam aa rahe hai.

4.2k views
yeah this is something that I have come to know today. After deleting so many questions, people are quoting scores as less than 90. Something that we don’t generally expect to happen

Thats why cutoff is expected to be 90+ unless upsc changes ans for 3-4 supposedly non disputed questions. Those who have taken risk of attempting 90+ questions have high chances of scoring 90+ marks.

Upsc needs only top 2-3 percentile people. 85 is the score where majority of serious aspirants are there(with or without considering doubtful questions wrong). Cutoff will be around 3 questions (8 marks) more than 85. Jiska tukka upsc ke ans se match kr gya vo in ho jaega.

3.5k views
Results not possible today. Not possible to screen 5 lakh omrs and compile results in just 5 days as window for disputed questions was open till 16th

If lesser mortals like Haryana psc can do this last month, thn why not upsc with more resources and manpower. Their timeline was exactly the same

@Shubz Acha. Have no idea about that. Hope upsc do that and end all these dramas

Hello guys .. alot of bloodshed has been happening so please dont beat me or cuss at me when I say this ..

so I spoke to one of my professors at DU (Political science department) about that polity question - safeguards of liberty in a liberal democracy and she definitely says the answer is Elected Government. She said though separation  of powers and rule of law are other ingredients but all of them wont be possible if a state does not have anelectedgovernmentat first (also the question specifically says liberal democracy) .. only then those things can be assured.  She also told me that with respect to such questions - read some philosophers (even if not from an optional background) like Aristotle, JS mill , Berlin etc  in free time and that may in general invoke some interest. Also despite my background in this subject , I haven’t taken PSIR optional so don’t think that I am in anyway advertising any optional .. just putting an end to this debate of “one of many interpretation “based questions.

I too marked Elected government option but ye wala galat hai. Mera 2 polity ke mistakes bahut bhaari padne wale hain. Doosra Article 32 mark kiya maine.

Yaar unhone bola toh correct Elected govt hai .. I asked an expert to finally put an end to this debate ki kya hoga ..

even I marked that article wala question as 32. Some stupid mistakes of polity and economy(like that last resort question)is also going to cost me alot ..

probably your expert isn't so expert. because there is a difference between elected government and elected government by universal adult franchise

Oh acha! Itna specific hona padta hai .. ki matlab universal adult franchise bhi mentioned ho..

maybe yaar you are right. My source is an LSR professor who teaches political theory and constitution from the past 20 years and has written many things on this topic so I thought she would not be wrong in this.

Lets see :)

Analyse the options

B - concentration of powers

D - separation of powers

Go through any paper of upsc and you will find that whenever such opposite options are present thn answer is always one of the options. And out of the two options, separation of powers is the relevant option.

Moreover, elected govt option itself is incomplete and vague. Baaki one can go into the political science theory and research papers but that will yield nothing.

@toooldtodieyoung it's the UPSC key which matters. Every year its matter of 6-7 questions which turns the tide. anyone with 70s can go to 90s provided 6-7 answers goes in their favour.. which questions will turn no one knows. So practically no one is safe unless one has scored 110+. Which is very rare.

Have seen all the disputed questions going against me TWICE

Those posting the fake screenshots are the shittiest persons,  playing with anxiety of aspirants and taking sadistic pleasure in thinking that at least someone is taking their posts seriously. Screw you guys.
and by the way, UPSC does not just pick up question out of thin air and make a paper out of them. There is whole examination wing dedicated to selection of topics, preparation of questions, setting the options, and answer keys, thereby setting the question's difficulty to desired level. Afaik, UPSC has never revised its keys in its history of conducting examinations. This might happen often in state PCS exams but not in UPSC. UPSC is cunning,it is shrewd, it is unpredictable, butwhat it is not isWrong.

Upsc version of "Modiji ne kia hai toh soch samajh kar hi kia hoga"

7.1k views
@Celeborn what could be the cut off for 2021 as per your assessment?

I don't have a clue.

Here's a hypothetical way in which an institute can predict the cutoff ->take a poll of a large number of aspirants, asking for their marks on the basis of one particular key. Take a certain percentage of the scores (say top 5-6%). This method works if you've been doing this for years. So if in the past 4 years, the cutoff score was similar to the score your top 6% of respondents were getting, then taking the score of the top 6% this year too might give a good enough prediction.

This would be a proper data based cutoff prediction. But what we're seeing is multiple entities making multiple claims based on their arguments or subjective experiences.

The problem isn't that the arguments are wrong. I've seen some really convincing arguments on this platform from people on both extremes i.e. those predicting 85 as cutoff as well as 100 as cutoff. I wouldn't call their predictions random. They're well thought out. But so are the opposing claims.

When conflicting arguments and reasons arise, only data can tell the truth. Everything else is just conjecture.

And that's the fundamental problem here. None of us have enough data. We just know the scores of people in our peer group as well as some 30-40 odd aspirants who have posted here. And there's no compelling reason to assume that this is representative of the entire population of serious candidates.

So yeah. I don't think it's wise for me to give any sort of prediction for the cutoff. I wouldn't be surprised if it's drastically different from whatever the popular consensus is, although it's more likely that the majority is right. Sorry if this doesn't satisfy you or calm your anxiety :P

What I have understood is agr 10 serious logo ke grp me(provided they are honest abt their marks)4 logo ke marks hmare jitne ban rahe hai toh fir kisi ka clr nahi hoga. This analogy has worked almost every time for me.
