[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

@Knt get a good job again and start your life. Even if my juniors come and visit me to ask for my advice I tell them not to attempt this exam. I was in the same boat once, by god's grace something else came along the way and I was able to get out.

PS unnecessary advice

You  can even use my approach. Get a job after college... Work for 2 or 3 years. Get experience and job learning. Side by side try reading syllabus .

Then once you are sure for any year  that you want to attempt full time.. leave job and plan well.. and save money from job and give a year to crack it.(left job in 2016 to  2017 )

but if something bad happens (reached interview in 16 and failed in prelims 2017) Join job again .. 1 year gap is considerable in market.. you will again get gud job and little hike in package. Then .. prepare again along side job .. and  .. Use weekend and leaves in very planned manner and give exam... There is 3 months notice period ... plan well in advance .( I resigned before pre 2018 .. took leave of 15 days before pre 2018 and qualified.. and notice period of mine came to end in August 2018 ... Got 1 month for revision and reorganization.  gave both forest and upsc mains and interview for 2018- 2019.. But, Just after forest mains in 2018 dec... I immediately joined job again ... and gave interview along with job ... but not got final selection )

Then .. in april .. left job for 2019 pre  again .. but messed up paper 2 .. failed. Then, Joined job again and with almost 50% hike in package .

Started preparing for pre 2020 along with job then. Took 15 days leave before prelims for final revision. Planned well in advance for pre 2020. It worked finally this year.

I am still in job will take 15 day leave again just before mains. I am devoting every single minute I get for exam preparation except job hours. Also, Good money helps you a lot. Job environment helps you to interact with people and release your pressure from mind.

For me - I was failed whenever I quite job  and I qualified exam along with job. I realized that when you feel you have got lot of time.. we tend to be lazy and careless ... and somewhere indesciplined. Job makes you disciplined .. because you have less time .. you focus more on finishing targets as quickly as possible . You get money ..You can arrange a little better lifestyle and facilities and feel happy in mind.

Hopping in hopping out from Job for 6 months or a year for exam is verry much feasible.

In my 2018 interview , The first question for me was

*Gaurav, You have got excellence award this year.. what you did please tell us .

Also, There was so many questions related to my job they asked  in interview. That provided me a new channel to showcase my personality and skills other than upsc syllabus.

My benefits :

1. My father is retired .. I am single earner in my family. I get gud money to maintain myself and my parents and family and do all expenses related to exam as well. (savings is important dont throw all money in bar and pubs on weekend)

2. A kind of security.. That I will not end up bad.. after all if nothing atleast earning well and make something out of it.

3. I study very peacefully without worries.

4. Parents dont interfere much in my life because .. I am doing my stuff with my money .. so .. I got leverage of all decision making related to exam ..and all.

After college ... My personal opinion is - Either join job for 2 year and then prepare and leave job for 2 attempt.  Or .. Prepare well for 2 years give two attempts and join a gud job .. and then give attempts only when u feel u r ready.. Dont waste attempts and life by giving attempts every year .. It will mess you up and .. God forbid .. If you turn unlucky in all 4 or 5 attempts.. You will feel like a loser in life.. Then... You have to do lot pf emotional labour to counter your bad psyche first.

So , Money matters and job matters.  Blend it with exam preparation... Hop in and out of job as per your level of preparation !!

Thanks.

My 2 cents with regards to cutoff

Last year (2019) Everyone knew the cutoff was going to be 95-104 , thats A range of around 10 marks, Shankar ias prediction was 99-102 i.e. A range of 4 marks.  In short they covered the 40% range of probable cutoff and still got it wrong😂

which factors can lead to increase in Cut off this year

Decrease in vacancies - Yes

Tukkafication - No!!! There were many questions the answers to which was not a simple D. Also in 2018,2019 you had similar Dfication sentiments running around

which Factors can lead to decrease in cutoff

1.The toughest csat in recent history . According to a survey 46% of students are either failing or in borderline in paper 2

2. Lack of sheer number of absolute sitters.

3. Almost 2/3rd of Questions had multiple statements . People didnt had the luxury of time in this paper

4. Inflation - People despite getting a 100% conformity that their answer is not the best answer are still counting the marks for that question. This leads to overall inflation in market

5. Last year 40% of people on Telegram posted their scores tobe above 100 , the sample was 12000 votes. This year 40% of people on telegram claiming their score to be above 95

The overall cutoff has to be - 95 (+-1)

What is borderline case in csat....?? Even a person with 80 is also borderline...since noone is sure of passages

Going by the Polls conducted on telegram which had good no of participants with each more than 10k, It becomes quite assured that It is highly unlikely for cut off to breach 95 marks...Below 95, nothing can be said about with conformity.

what is the right answer for desher katha?? vision and vajiram giving different answer

Vision Answer is correct. The statements were verbatim lifted from book of Ishita Dube on Page 232. Hence, option A is correct

D is right read ist page of deshar katha book

D is right?

Which according to you is the closest key to upsc in csat bro

Cut off will be 92(+-2). Said this on day 1. Continuing the same till date.

Every time a tough paper has happened marks have collapsed by 6 7 marks minimum. And this is not even taking covid into account.

Absurd for people to forget 2016 ->2017 transition and 2017->18 transition.

Its not gonna be 95. Last time consensus was at 101, it fell to 98, that too with ews, which means in a normal case the cutoff might have been down to 96 or 97.

So anyone above 90 has a decent chance. A lot of 100s have taken rakhmabai and desher katha as 123, a lot of 100s have preamble as A and have taken gandhi irwin marks (which logically will be dropped 99.99%)

i would rather say a 92 93 guy who hasn't included such cheap marks has a better probability to convert than a 100+ guy with such dirty marks.

And well, last time I know people who were having scores in 90s, and had given up who made it to final list. So yeah, stop seeking validity. If are 90+ just study and inshallah!

@Tokyo I have no idea . I attempted 51 maths questions only... Apart from 2-3 silly mistakes I dont think there will be a problem.

People who were reliant on Passages have to be on edge i guess. However nothing should stop one from preparing for mains.. Like someone quoted in this thread , better to be prepared and not have an opportunity, than to have one and not be prepared!!!

For CSAT, it's probably tough for those who quintessentially depend on passages. For people like me who depend on maths, I think CSAt is never an issue. Because with maths you are like sure that 9 times of 10 you have hit the bird with the stone. You also have the leeway to drop disputed passages, as here you just need to be >70.
