[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

I did Btech from IIT Guwahati and Mtech from IISc Bangalore, but wait i won't profess based on my degrees here, because this exam is not for specialists else many questions might go wrong, have a generalist view when it comes to UPSC, afterall it asks for simple graduation.

Agreed, but just want to tell you  the opinion of a full time researcher. Leave all this, just tell me the area of research of your M.Tech ?

Mtech in Thermal Engineering, i did my final year project on 'Evaporation rate of liquid droplet with varying composition and humidity. like with different mixtures of Ethanol and Methanol

@MrJ phir wahi age ki baat? Kithni baar samjhana hain, there is a condition of both Age (2nd point of Article 173) and Voter (3rd point of Article 173  which is parliamentary qualifications under RPA, 1951). In fact, there was a previous year UPSC question asked in 2017 on the same context. Try to attempt it by applying the ridiculous age criteria.
Last word: If you're a voter, you need not directly be eligible to become a MP/MLA. But to become MP/MLA, you have to be a voter.

I don't know what UPSC has in mind, but if it is used in a broader sense of eligibility criteria, then A can be answer and I will get 2.67 more

@Percival bhai, hum sabke mind me cognitive bias hai. We won't accept the other's point as correct until UPSC comes out with its own key. So it's a thankless effort (and that too with no effective benefit) to prove one's answer and convince the other person about its correctness. Koi nahin manega, likh ke lelo

And regarding the minister question, being an law grad, I believe the option is a gray area and can be interpreted both way. From a generalist PoV, A is correct because there is no such bar regarding age under 164(4). But from a extremely legal PoV, A might be wrong as some courts have interpreted it and further might qualify as a 'fraud on Constitution' (Such thing has happened in DC Wadhwa case, where multiple ordinances were promulgated using absence of specific restraint on such). Now it's for UPSC to decide if it goes for a simple generalist view or a specific legalistic view.

"Laws are never black or white and the gray is where the lawyers exist"

@rafael Yes, this source only confirms answer as D. Thanks Percival . As regarding question of 2017 prelims, one has to mark the most appropriate option out of given. The rest options were extremely ridiculous and hence the answer was - A  citizen whose name appears in voter roll. But  here, there was no such case.
Even I have marked it as A and I'm very sure, it is wrong and taking it as negative

Yeah bro, i completed it in 2019, my guide was working on that topic itself as i was more inclined towards preparing for CSE so i didn't gave efforts in getting it published in some decent journals. Had no plan of PhD either, so..

Bro in option d it's mentioned all citizens that's y it's wrong. UPSC choose not to write a citizen of India. That's where the problem is. Everything boils down to how UPSC interpret the word "a person". It can go either way.

After a lot of internal struggle, I want to share my Anki deck on research methods (sociology optional).

NOTE:

There are a lot of spelling errors in the flashcards. Kindly ignore.

A few pointers before you download the deck

1. In some flashcards, I have used minimum information policy. And, the review is not arranged in the order I made. So, you might not be able to connect the information. For instance, you might come across the 'limitation in the interview technique' before reading the flashcard on the interview technique.

2. Some of the flashcards are bloody lengthy, which I have dealt by another memory principle called chunking. Basically, I have chunked the information in tables or Q/A format.

3. I have used some absurd information on the left side of the table to easily remember stuff. A sample has been attached. I use this absurd information like 'dakiya dak liya'  and convert into markers (means converting words into pictures and linking them by visualization). For more reference to the Marker technique, please refer to Jonathan Levi Udemy's course. I have also made a video on the same in civilsdaily.

4. I have used some clippings from the book of Nitin Sangwan, called 'essential sociology'. Please don't sue me for copyright infringement.

5. I assume there is no error. Probably, I have failed to mention the headings on flashcards on deduction and induction.  If any, I am guilty. Kindly let me know of any corrections.

6. I would be highly obliged for your feedback. And, if it helps the aspirants, I might ankify the entire book.
